With further investigation I'm now inclined to disagree. Memento was great. Inception was also good.

Are they great for their character work and dialogue, or premise, editing and cinematography?

I'm not film critic, and when it comes to movies, I watch very few. Mostly because there are very few good ones.  The 2 that I mentioned were unique and memorable. There is very little unique content any more. It all been done, and I am not into remaking stuff with changing the main character into what ever transgender, lesbian, freak show they can dream up.

Both of the movies I mentioned were well thought out the acting didn't turn me off, which is more common than not today.

The more I learn about his body of work the more I'm inclined to disagree. He has had a lot of success. I have never seen The Dark Knight, but it's success is hard to argue with.

"Horrible" is pretty strong.

If you prize character and dialogue, I'd say he's probably not for you since those definitely aren't his strong suit, but his movies being largely legible on the first watch has to be a testament to how he writes all the same to me.

I think Dunkirk is wonderful, but I don't think I could tell you a character name or line of dialogue today, but still find the plot mechanics impressive. I don't think he winged that part of it on set and in the editing bay, so that had to all be on the page.

I think you're correct in that I should have said "bad" not horrible. Dunkirk is probably the perfect example of him playing to his strengths, while marginalizing his proclivity for uselessly high concept plots (some of which hit some miss), and bad writing and character work.

I answered with I not a movie critic. I don't analyze movies to that level. I'm cynical enough with out over analyzing.

thats fine but don't lead with "i disagree" as if you were making a point in relation to mine.

Well I do disagree, and so does the market. You may think he stinks, but success is one hell of a deodorant.

you're still playing dumb.
