I'm assuming this is the Alexander Leipold we all remember.

Not holding his past sins against him, but I've always found elite wrestlers entering Veterans Worlds a bit of a mixed bag. They have every right to enter, and glad that Leipold is in great shape (78KG???) given his past medical issues. But, physical mismatches among Age 50+ competitors can be dangerous.

I'll put it another way - Dan Chaid was one of my coaches in college and in "retirement" we are about the same size. He entered Veterans Worlds several years back. I would withdraw/forfeit if he was in my bracket. That dude would f--k me up.

Correct.   I remember watching US Nationals  Veterans at the 1999 WTT in Seattle.   I watched them and thought they were slow and thought I could do that.   So I worked for it and went to Vegas in 2000 and got killed.   They were faster than they looked the year before.   Or was it I was much slower than I thought I was.   And technique, I didn't have.   I just love wrestling, I was never really any good at it.   I was never elite by any stretch, did no college wrestling.   But I did Veterans for three years and had a blast doing it.   I got one guy involved that killed me in a local tourney in MN.   I mean he destroyed me.   After that match I talked with him and said he should do Veterans.   He did that next time.  He came to Vegas and was the FS/GR champ for a few years.   He was pretty good.

I just couldn't bring myself to do it.  I entered open tournaments until i was 33 and did ok.  I took some time off and came back to coach my son when I was 52.  This was the first time in my life that I felt old.  He was a state placer but I had twenty pounds on him, old man strength and a lot of experience.  I was lighting him up and showboating.  Then, out of nowhere, I popped a rib... and that was the end of my comeback.
