I'm not on any kind of "bring people together train"... and never claimed to be. But it is a pretty good idea.

Exclusive: TikToks show South Shore building in ruin long before ICE raided it this week

Chicago news outlets have published and aired seemingly endless images and videos from inside the South Shore apartment building raided by federal immigration agents this week. You’ve undoubtedly seen them: doors hanging open, apartments torn apart, and hallways left in disarray after the feds left.

What the outlets haven’t shared is what the building looked like before the raid. That’s why we’re here.

On Friday night, CWBChicago obtained several videos recorded inside the building at 7500 South South Shore Drive that were posted to TikTok in September, about three weeks before the federal raid. The “before” footage is in some ways more shocking than the “after,” showing living conditions that appear unfit for rats, let alone humans.

To be sure, there are also serious allegations of wrongdoing by the feds. Those need to be investigated and, if proven true, addressed: Residents born and raised in the United States say they were zip-tied, removed from the building, and detained until federal agents confirmed their citizenship. (Officials later reported that 37 people were officially arrested.) Some witnesses claim children were dragged naked from the building and separated from their mothers.

But about the building. The pre-raid videos, posted by Wayne Head, who identifies himself as a former maintenance person at the building, reveal apartment doors splintered and hanging open, deadbolts ripped out. Security camera lenses were covered with thick coats of spray paint to keep anyone from documenting what happened inside the building. The laundry room had been largely stripped, with washing machines pulled from the walls and water pooling across at least two floors. Some units sat wide open while others, doors apparently compromised beyond repair, had been boarded shut with plywood.
