First fight, fine. I'd say in the next fights try and spar before you do. I remember Wrestling and my coach would tell me to not pin someone right away...

Of course there was risk of getting punched in the face and Johnny from Who Gives a @#$ East isn't... quite the same level of competition, but still for him to get better, it'd probably help.

You start with the tomato can opponents. Gradually work up to real competition & hope your guy has learned enough by then to keep winning when the result is actually in question.

Big problem with this stuff is that most of these guys can't hit worth a damn.
