Hi all,

Kroger, who owns PNW home grown Fred Meyer, is closing stores in Pierce and King Counties.   Tacoma, Everett, Redmond, Lake City, and Kent are losing their stores.   These stores are more than grocery stores, they are huge and sell all kinds of stuff like house wares etc.

You might remember that Kroger tried to merge with Albertsons.   Albertsons is a Boise company that bought Safeway.   Both of these are very prominent in the WA/OR area.   The merger was a big deal around here.   Most were happy it didn't happen, myself included.

The reason these stores are closing is mostly due to crime and to a lesser extent the lousy business climate here in WA with higher taxes just imposed.

Kroger is closing 60 stores across the country.  I believe that the stores price their items so they can remain profitable.   Theft robs them of their profit and eventually of our ability to shop there when they eventually close.

Maybe you can land one of them government stores?  Alternatively I hear Oregon is nice.  😉

We have a small City Market store which believe is Kroger owned.  In process of building a new ~3x size CM which will be nice. Walmart and Safeway are opposite direction 30+ miles away.
