Florida (Fort Myers) Everblades get a sweep over Jacksonville in the first round of the ECHL playoffs (with four overtime games amazingly enough) and the Panthers take out Tampa 4 games to 1.  Round 2 for defending champs Blades starts Friday.  Defending champs Panthers await their next opponent.  South Florida hockey on fire!

I’ve got an Everblades puck around here somewhere from their expansion season.

Insert catchy tagline here.

If you come across it could you send me a pic?   Some of my peeps would get a kick out of it.

Blades win game 1 in what looked like was gonna be a blow out, up 5-0 going into the third but Orlando got 3 to make it interesting. None the less a great night with my boys.
Game 2 tonight, can’t decide if I want to return on a solo mission or just watch from home (on Flo no less)

Panthers and Toronto kick off their series Monday.  Folks weren’t too high on Florida heading into the Tampa series, don’t think they realized Florida had a lot of injuries (and suspension) at the end of the regular season. But they rested up and showed they are defending champs for a reason. They are the definition of team hockey. Going to be a good series.

yes it was.

i was thinking the night before with the avs giving up 3 in the third, then a late emptynetter, was crazy

but that happened last night... wow

Yes what an amazing game!  When both Tampa and Florida each hit two goals in 11 seconds in their game five, a strong reminder that it’s not over till that final horn.

Friday night I took my boys to the Everblades game 1 of round 2.  At the nine minute mark Blades were up 5-1.  Said to the boys if it’s stays like this we’re leaving at 5 minute mark.  At the five minute mark it was 5-3…

Went back solo Saturday night game 2, final score was 6-1….but I wasn’t  leaving early. Don’t think I ever will again.

After some hiccups from both Florida squads, the ship has been corrected and the good guys are looking good again. Blades dropped game three on the road before closing it out in game five, not even allowing the series to come back to Ft Myers. We await the winner of Trios Riverries (3 games) and Norfolk (2).

Panthers drop the first two on the road of their second round, really taking a while to wake up.  But wake up they did and have really put a physical pounding on Toronto the last two games to make it 2-2. Thinking (hoping) their physicality pays dividends in what is now a best of three.

Panthers had all the momentum and sitting good to clinch with a game 6 at home, but the Leafs come to town and shut em out 2-0. Back to Toronto for game 7.

Blades open their Eastern Conference Final tonight against Trios Rivieres…or as we call them around here…Twat River.

So my weekend: Friday big family dinner with our favorite Local band (duo) Chasing Denver, head out just in time to see the Panthers blow it.  Saturday night at the Hertz for Game 1 with the Blades.  Sunday back at the Hertz for Game 2, fortunatley an early start so I can high tail it to the lady’s house five minutes away, hopefully in time for the Game 7 puck drop.

Hockey playoff season is craaaazy.

A mixed Sunday on this ice. Blades start the Florida double header at home in game 2 of the Eastern Conference final of the ECHL against Trios Rivereies, after dropping the opener 1-0 last night.  More of the same on Sunday, TR’s goalie finished the weekend with 63 saves in two games in the road and win it 2-1. The blades now have to go to Canada for three games down 2-0.

But in the nightcap, the Panthers went into Toronto for game 7, and while there should be some line about eating some syrup on pancakes, that would be about as funny as this game.  Panthers simply ripped out their hearts and stole their souls, winning the series clincher 6-1. On to Carolina Tuesday night for the NHL eastern conference final…Florida’s third straight.

Panthers making the conference finals look like a tune up for THE Finals, going on the road the first two games and outscoring 10-2 for a couple complete dominating wins. 18 Panthers have scored in these playoffs, at one point 14 straight goals scored by 14 different players, until Bennet netted two in a row tonight.  The only Panther who could possibly be in the running for the Conn Smythe is Bobrovsky, who pitched his third shutout of the playoffs this season, which accounts for half his career total, because this has been total team hockey. Game three comes to Florida Saturday.

Up north the Blades got back in the series, down 2-0 in the third thanks to continually terrific play by the Trois Riveries goalie, the Blades finally figured him out and scored four in the third to win it and make the series 2–1. In six games of both sides of the ECHL conference finals, the home team has yet to win a game.  Let’s hope that trend continues tomorrow night.
