I replied in another thread about how the heavyweight class seems to shedding quite a few pounds for next year -

I think Cole Mirasola's future is at heavyweight wherever he goes.  Next year at heavyweight most of the top contenders will be "undersized" heavyweights - this year graduated a lot of really good guys who were 250lbs and up and could really wrestle - Hendrickson, Gable, Kerk, Schulz, Trephan, Heindleman & Luffman - Next year most of the best guys seem to be in that 225 to 240 range.  Trumble, Bastida, Ghiadelli, Kueter, Feldman, Pitzer are all lighter type heavyweights.  Taylor of Lehigh will be a big exception which I hope can work to his favor. He should be up close to the weight limit.  As far as new guys coming in I expect Mirasola, Hopke, and if he doesn't grey shirt Correa will all be light. Attao if he comes in might be a bit on the heavier side.  It will be interesting to see who rises to the top.

Anyway I thought it deserved it's own topic - it will be a bit different

It’s the very reason all the rumors of AJ Ferrari going up to HWY started and IMO make perfect sense now because of it.

If Kerk, Schultz, Hendrickson and Gable type big heavies were coming back, Ferrari would have been a fool making that sort of move. Now it makes all the sense in the world.

Had not thought of it before but Taylor may be top dog at Hwt next year.

How big is Bastida these days?  Some guys get bigger when nobody is looking.

According to Flo, HWT only returns 2 AA’s and 19 of 33 NCAA qualifiers next year. Thats insane levels of clearing out.

It was enormously unfair that so many 5th year guys got to stay around and seems to have been most unfair at HWT.   It was an insane idea from NCAA - I assume for other revenue sports but never looked at the details.

The NCAA couldn't deal with another year of no March Madness revenue and didn't want to consider a year without football revenue, so they made sure everyone would play by giving them a free year.  So many kids would have redshirted or withdrew from school if there was a risk of the season being cancelled and losing a year.

Great idea by the NCAA.  We are just dealing with the consequences of it.  Although they are not ideal, they are better than 2021 with no one competing  (or a bunch of "JVs")

In the 23-24 season Bastida was weighing in between mid 230s up to 240 - I don't know if he has put on anymore weight - he was pretty jacked at that size.
