I was just thinking about the match and what brought it about (other than the posed name of gable jinx for a third title). How much came from Taylor? I'm not here proposing if he's a better coach yet than anyone else. I imagine he would have worked out with gable and certainly saw him closer up than most over the international cycles and camps. He obviously figured something out

Yeah. Ok.  He figured out that Steveson is cocky and out of shape.   Real rocket science there

I feel like Taylor should be getting a lot of talk. Certainly got the best out of these guys and a perfect gameplan against Steveson.  Hendricksons attacks throughout the match weren’t so much committed to scoring as they were to get gable wrestling.  Each ‘attempt’ he made, he was immediately ready to wrestle off Steveson’s reattack, and did so successfully.  Wore him down to the end of the match to wear he could get his hands on the mat, and go chase down a takedown.  Gable had that brick thrown for the sole purpose of needing a break.  The orange corner knew it and that’s when they knew they had him.

A lot clearly, both in technique but even more between the ears for hendrickson. He was notoriously the 3rd place king because he always had hiccups against kerkvliet. He had to get over those mental boogeymen just to have the chance to wrestle steveson, and he kept a TON of poise throughout that match.
