As a wrestler, Dan set a pin streak record of 25 consecutive pins. Now, I’m larger than you, a little bit. Do you think I could take you in wrestling? Would I have a big advantage?

So, no- he didn't specifically say he was any good but I think his even asking the question means he doesn't really understand. He isn't one to say things tongue-in-cheek but obviously does exaggerate a lot (I won't go all the way with that statement).

I don't think it's bad that the president did. I think it's more his reasons for attending that I don't like.

For our current president, everything is transactional. Everything is about trying to sell something, his own image, etc. So him appearing isn't because he actually cares about wrestling. It's because he wants to sell the image of himself as some kind of tough guy who represents the values and ideals of wrestling. Keep in mind he's a guy who was born rich, has never had to work a real job, and was handed everything in life.

Whereas other presidents we've had, maybe I don't like their politics, but they don't come across as disingenuous pandering narcissists. Like if George Bush went while he was president, I wouldn't have a negative view of it. But somebody who privately has disdain for non rich people? F--- him.

weird take. he wrestled. he likes the sport. its well documented. he's not running for office. he has nothing to gain by coming.

I like this board and the old themat forums, but USAW had the right idea. Message boards tend to draw folks of a certain age and older. The convos are happening on Reddit or socials.

I just wish the owners would do something to grow the forum via new users and create some sort of incentive to transition lurkers into active participants. Tired of the same 30 or so controlling the narrative.

His fragile fragile ego and needing to be associated with a tough guy image. Anything that boosts his ego and makes him appear to be everything he's not.

you are really complaining that the President came to the NCAA finals? I am no fan of Biden, but if he had come, I would have admitted that it was pretty cool to get that kind of fan. Calm down buddy, you have clinical grade TDS.

It's not that he came, it's that he actively tried to take away the thunder of the first and most likely last 5 time champ in the middle of their interview and historic moment... I'm not one for things being "rigged" either but it's certainly something the maga crowd says when they don't like an outcome and that end sequence with Hendrickson/the flag and salute just seem soooo pre-planned...

If any other president had come, they would be up in a box somewhere out of sight and give a little wave once announced- not enter the arena like it was WWE smackdown, way over the top and weird timing... Anyone with half a brain would have been there 10 minutes earlier before the first match started or have waited the additional 90 seconds for the commercial break and match/interview to finish. He is a complete ego maniac and anyone saying differently makes "bahhh, bahhh" noises.

It's not that he was there. It's him being there, upstaging the athletes and turning it into something about him. Other presidents who attended sporting events unless they're doing something ceremonial like the first pitch, coin toss, whatever, just sit somewhere out of the way and don't get involved.
