is this just a down year or did the loss of Sunkist Kids destroy the program? Figs seems like he doesn't wanna be there. Schultz hasn't progressed in 5 years. Is there any reason for Sun Devils fans to be hopeful for the future?

I’m not sure you are being fair about Schultz. 5 time AA. Lost to Gable multiple times at NCAAs and was a win away from the Olympic team. Figs looked tremendous at the Big12 tournament after he was upset. Just the breaks I guess this weekend.

Down year for sure.  Teemer bolting at the last minute, not having Larkin all season when he was the Parco replacement, Ysaguirre being injured seemingly all year and finally knocked out late, Vasquez disappearing, Aziz the 184 guy out all year after two matches. I know every team deals with it but it's not like ASU is ever very deep.

I some some real potential out of guys who had to fill in like Daniel Miranda and Shay Addison.  I would expect next year to be better and it will be interesting to see a new HWT after seeing Tanner Hall and Cohlton for the past 20 years.

A very weak 2025 recruiting class will hurt. 2026 class still needs a heavy hitter. Transfer portal is badly needed to get a guy or two. But returning Figs Larkin Manville Ruiz Aziz Yas and another Larkin coming in next year (guess he redshirts?) is a good start.
seems to be in the same spot every year,

The SunDevil’s are in a tough spot, like many programs. So many teams are struggling to secure funds, recruit, develop and maybe even acquire talent in the portal, and of course dealing with injuries. Programs are also looking for quality assistant coaches. Add in the fact that Penn State and a few other programs are able to consistently find success, putting pressure on everyone else. This year Nebraska a traditionally very good program had a great season with phenomenal results, so is this going to be the norm for them going forward? Also Ok St. has made the commitment to put that program back on top, which is another issue to contend with.
Anyway, I am sure Coach Jones is doing the things that he can under the circumstances he finds himself under. I think that if he could find additional funding, it would probably be a huge shot in the arm.

He didn't say Schultz wasn't good.  He said he hasn't progressed.  Maybe he just progressed so much earlier he had no room for growth left.  But it's pretty undeniable he hasn't progressed.

I'm an ASU fan but I don't see things getting better anytime soon especially if Figueroa leaves. They didn't recruit well the past few years outside of the Larkins. They haven't landed any real can't miss guys since the Valencia brothers. Zeke is a good coach but I think at this point they should be looking to the next step, and I think they blew their chances on getting anyone who would be an impact coach like DT. Losing Sunkist and their top booster hurt a lot and if they had listened to him, they might not be in this situation.

You lose to AA's to Iowa and by the end of the year 5 projected starters were injured and not in the lineup. ASU doesn't have the depth of the top tier teams so that's hard to overcome. Ad in a subpar NCAA from Figs and it was left up to Schultz to carry things. 4/5 injured starters can return (Vasquez was the only senior I believe) ad Manville to the lineup with Figueroa, Ruiz, and Ysaquirre and if healthy it should be a better year.

I wondered what happened to Yasguirre. He beat Hardy his redshirt year, I believe. And just didn’t look the same this year.

He beat Hardy his true freshman year, pulled his RS and lost in the PAC12 tourney. RS last year. And never looked 100% this year. Hopefully can get a top 133 transfer in as the lightweights (and middle weights) still look good and have a ton of potential.
