For whatever reason, they aren't a power player  in anything.   Goodale might run the most successful program in the entire athletic department?   Football, Basketball, Baseball all would love to have a top ten finish in the NCAAs, be middle of the pack of the most dominate conference and be known as one of the better home environments in the nation.

What do you mean "for whatever reason?" We are talking about Rutgers here. There is zero reason for them to be good.  Why would Rutgers be good at any sport? The state doesn't invest in the athletic program to the degree that PA/Illinois/Ohio/Michigan/Iowa do. If you are a NJ recruit, there is zero reason to go to Rutgers. 

Goodale is doing an incredible job to actually build pride in the program and the state among NJ high school wrestlers.  That is something that doesn't exist in any other NJ sport, and the results he has produced are unprecedented (outside of when Rutgers and Princeton were the only two football programs).  The only comparison was the brief period of time that Greg Schiano seemed to be building the football program in his first stint.

Also, RU absolutely doesn't get the pick of the litter from NJ high schools since places like Delbarton refuse to send anyone to RU and they are the best program in the state. Plus, NJ is an overall wealthy state and has one of the best education systems in the country so many of the top guys want to go the Ivy route and end working in consulting or in Finance so RU constantly loses elite guys to the likes of Cornell, UPenn, and Princeton.

I have a friend who has worked in the Rutgers athletic department for nearly 30 years. He once told me that New Jersey’s #1 export was college students.
