Greetings All,

Nomad had an interesting question on the Twatter, and I thought it would be good for a discussion here.

In his original post, he asks "How many of these guys will make > 1.5 world teams and wrestle > 4.5 years on the senior level after college?" with a screenshot of Flo's P4P Top 20.

While I wasn't able to find ten years ago (2014-15) easily, I was able to grab 2015-16's Top 20 P4P and followed that up and asked something along the lines of 'Who from this fits that criteria?'

Discuss, gents...

A good response, from Superfan Joe Warren (a good follow if you're in to the Twatterverse).

Also an element to add is that we have a few All-Timers that are fixing to 'age out' so there will be a power vacuum to fill for a year or three until we have an established hierarchy tier again (my theory).

lose to MMA or other career before 4.5 years:
-Carter
-AJ
-Alirez
-Greg
-Bartlett
-PK (Ben seems to think he's going to go straight into coaching)

wont make 1.5 world teams:
-Plott
-Buchanan
-Ayala
-Teemer
-Figs

Guys that could fit Both criteria:
-Meyer
-MM (lock imo)
-Levi
-Jesse
-Crookham
-SVN
-Henson
-Hendrickson
-KOT

Good list, with a couple of thoughts:

1) Parker was just talking about improving his par terre on Bader show.  I did hear what Ben said, though... so I doubt he has more than once cycle in him.

2) SVN gets hurt a lot.  Badly hurt.  Might not be physically cut out for it.  Also, has MMA interest, too?

was going to mention the svn injuries and that he does not really have a weight to wrestle I think 149 is legitimately his optimal weight but I did not want to offend anyone.

Not sure why Greg K, Alirez and Bartlett on this list.  Have they expressed interest in MMA?  All three guys have done their share of freestyle.  I'd have said all three have decent shot of sticking with wrestling for a while.

Agree. Will be interesting to see what DT can do with Plott though.

I can't recall any recent freestyle results for Crookham, SVN or Henson.  But my memory isn't great and I don't doubt they have the skills to excel there, so I don't disagree.

Greg was more of a guess because he did not look good at all at trials and did that Craig jones invite thing so I was thinking he may go the BJJ/MMA route. Bartlett I think may just be done with wrestling there were rumors he was not going to take his extra year I just think another 4.5 years is unlikely for him unless he really establishes himself as a top 3 guy at 65kg. Alirez mentioned a budding rivalry where he hopes he and woods would fight for a belt in the ufc so I think he has mma aspirations. Henson and Crookham had a lot to do with them both being very young still so I expect more growth and I see them both at 61kg and 70kg respectfully. Two weights that feel like could have a lot of guys moving on over the next cycle. 70 having a final of Pantaleo and green who I don't think have much left in the tank and 61 being Blaze vs Daton the former I see growing out of the weight pretty soon and I would not be shocked to see Vito going all in on 65kg in a year or two with Yianni apparently moving up to 70 and then 74. I don't think SVN makes two teams I just don't think his body will allow him to wrestling for essentially 6-7 more years given the 4.5 years after college but if everything went right for him I believe he has the ability to.

Greg has absolutely talked MMA.

Alirez has talked MMA.  I think his family may own a gym?

Bartlett prob going to make a boatload of money in the corporate world, or as an entrepreneur.  Never heard him mention MMA, but he may have.

I have trouble imagining Yianni as a world beater at 74 kg.  I can't see him being big enough or being able to handle that horsepower.  Already on 9 surgeries in less than 8 years.  And concussion issues.

He is also 5'6" tall.  I don't think that will equate well for his style.

Nomad is suggesting, and he isn't wrong, that we are and have been spoiled the last couple/few cycles.

Keeping it purely cyclical, I suppose taking the P4P from 23-24, 19-20, and 15-16 and comparing those three would be apt.  Was there a P4P for 11-12.

I don't have time now, but I might later.
