After the bombing of Pearl Harbor Leon enlisted in the Navy at the age of 12. He lied about his age, forged his mother's signature and used a stolen Notary Stamp. 3 months after his enlistment he was on the USS South Dakota in the Battle of Guadalcanal when he was injured yet continued to load a 40mm anti-aircraft gun. Later that night he helped with the wounded all through the night. Half of his fellow soldiers were killed in the battle. Its easy to find his story on the internet. There is a lot more to his story.
