Didn't know Deen had transferred to CSUB.

Interested to see how some of the freshman do.

Apparently so.   I didn't know that either.  Transferred from Nebraska.   But WrestleStat has him listed on their CSUB roster so somebody was aware of it.

Looking forward to Chayse Lajoie at 141lbs.  The kid is a gamer.

Looks like Lajoie lost in SV OT to a RS Freshman from CS Bakersfield who went 5-4 last season at 141 lbs (as a True FR) in his 2nd Championship round match.

He had a gap year last year.  Lajoie is not an actual true frosh.  He just got caught in that confusing crossfire/exodus from Cornell to Stanford.  I think this is his 3rd proper season out of high school.

His senior year in high schoolhe ended up going up to 145 to try to stop a 4xer from being a 4xer when he was a proper 132(130)lber.

He chased (no pun intended) the big matches.

Huh?  NCAA champion over (wrestlestat ranked) #161 RS freshman?

Champ. Round 2 - Shane Griffith (Stanford) 2-0 won by decision over Cash Stewart (Cal Poly SLO) 1-1 (Dec 4-1)

Stanford wins nine of the ten weight classes.  The only weight class they didn't win was 141 lbs where the two finalists were both from CS Bakersfield.

Stanford had three weight classes (157, 165 & 184) where both of the finalists were from Stanford.

Stanford's nine weight class champions at the 2022 Menlo Open tournament yesterday

125 lbs - True Freshman Nico Provo (4-0)

133 lbs - RS Junior Jackson DiSario (5-0)

149 lbs - RS Junior Jaden Abas (4-0)

157 lbs - True Freshman Daniel Cardenas (5-0)

165 lbs - RS Senior Shane Griffith (4-0)

174 lbs - RS Senior Tyler Eischens (4-0)

184 lbs - True Freshman Brook Byers (4-0)

197 lbs - Junior  Nik Stemmet (4-0)

285 lbs - Senior Seamus O'Malley (4-0)

Other Stanford wrestlers who placed at the 2022 Menlo Open were the following:

2nd place finishers for Stanford:

157 lbs - Junior - Charlie Darracott

165 lbs - True Freshman - Hunter Garvin

184 lbs - True Freshman - Jack Darrah

3rd place finishers for Stanford:

141 lbs - Junior Jason Miranda

184 lbs - Senior Nikolas Addison

4th place finishers for Stanford:

285 lbs - Junior Peter Ming (wrestled unattached)

So 16 of the 22 Stanford wrestlers who competed yesterday at the Menlo Open placed at that tournament.   I have to wonder if any of these three True Freshman who took first place in their weight class yesterday are going to be in the starting lineup this season, i.e., Nico Provo at 125 lbs (I'd have to think YES in his case), Daniel Cardenas at 157 lbs and Brook Byers at 184 lbs.
