There are union pension trustees all over the place. They have an impact on how and where the money is invested.  Many times it’s invested in politically motivated funds that fail.  You can look it up

Back to the subject, we have a century of experience with socialism/communism.   USSR, Mao, Pol Pot, Castro, Chavez.   

Each took a society and brought everyone down to the level of the lowliest.   Over 100 million people were purged (killed).   The promise of collectivism never materialized.   China for instance up until roughly 1993, was as backwards as they come.   Then they changed the system to capitalist/communism.   They allowed for capitalism to have a say in the economy and they have transformed the country.   USSR never really did that.   Neither did the others save for Cambodia.   

What makes anyone think socialized medicine is going to be nirvana?   Experience with gov programs almost 100% say it won't be nirvana, far from it.

Show me where a public employee union managed the public employee pension fund. It certainlly doesn't  happen for the federal govt.

Yes, gut social security BEFORE gutting welfare, because welfare is more important.. Better to make sure that young families are fed. The kids are our future; not 70 year olds. They should be the priority. 

If I had to gut one before the other, it would be SS. 

That doesn't mean I actually want to gut it though. I'd rather raise SS taxes and eliminate funding to the wealthy people that don't need it.
