I reckon I up and moved outta Texas when I was a chitlin, and these new fellers I started hangin' with just wouldn't let it go. Soon as I said, "Hey, y'all got to share them Legos," they 'bout fell over laughin' and started callin' me "Mr. Y'all" and pickin' at me for the next four yarhs. Bless their hearts, they thought it was the funniest dang thing they ever heard.  Dagum letter go.  Lord have mercy.

That’s so funny!

First of all, jross, I wanted to thank you for introducing me to "y'all." I actually didn’t know it was a signature Texas phrase!

I also have a question. In the video below, an Iranian comedian is mimicking a Texas accent, and at the end of the sentence, he really draws out/stretches the words. I absolutely love this accent! However, I’ve watched a lot of videos of people from Texas, and none of them seemed to have an accent quite that thick. Is this specific way of speaking from a particular part of Texas? Could you give me some tips on what to search for on YouTube to find videos with this type of American accent?

Sorry, I don't know why the video didn't embed properly, so you might just have to copy the link. I actually meant from 16:03 to 16:10 in the video.

I moved from Huntsville Alabama to Seattle Washington when I was 11.   Everyone in 6th grade made fun of my accent.   I didn't think I had an accent but I'm sure I did.   I called my best friend from Huntsville who lived across the street after about a year and I could hardly understand him.   Now he had an accent.   By the way, I love hearing and saying y'all.   Makes me feel at home.

This is hilarious:

I’m an elementary school teacher in Dallas and one year I had a little girl in my class who was a refugee from Yemen. She didn’t know a word of English when she came to our school, but I worked with her alongside a language instructor, and by the end of the year she could converse pretty well. I knew she would always carry her Texas influence though, when I first heard her read the word “cat” “cayat,” and “man,” “mayan.” Her true shining moment was when she dropped something on the floor and said, “dadgumit.” I knew my work was done then. 😂

Search for texas street interviews.  Throw in cowboy... and you have a real life caricature.

This is more natural.  There are many vids to watch in this channel.  https://www.youtube.com/c/TheConverseCowboy

This is helpful.

Haha that blue shirt cowboy is fire! That nasal, country-gangsta vibe is the best. Best accent out there. Much love, jross.
