  1. Good point, didn't notice the weight was only 103. I do think it vastly improves your chances of a scholarship at other weights though.
  2. Being a state champion certainly helps your odds of getting a college scholarship over somebody who gets 3rd place as a senior.
  3. It hurts the kids who don't game the system. And it is illegal to not give a child any form of required education in Arizona, no need to keep using quotations. For RBY's situation, it obviously played out okay for him as he's a successful wrestler, but having no education for an entire year is obviously not good in his formative years. Allowing him to do nothing besides go to wrestling practice and become addicted to video games, to the point where he is playing them until 5am every single night, is obviously not great for a kid. Explain to me how it is good for his development besides being stronger than his younger peers.
  4. Agreed and agreed. Seems the main advantage is getting a college scholarship.
  5. RBY is from Tucson, AZ, where it is required by law that children between the ages of 6 and 16 attend school or a homeschool equivalent. He was pulled out of school in 8th grade to play video games and go to wrestling practice for an entire year. If you believe playing video games until 5am every night is the equivalent of an education, then you're an imbecile.
  6. This poor going man is being absolutely shredded on social media, my Lord, the humanity! This is what's wrong with wrestling culture! I hope RBY can sleep tonight with all the vitriol directed his way.
  7. He's the one who shared it with Flo so get a grip my dude. I'd honestly prefer these amazing wrestlers just wrestle the grade they were supposed to rather than doing illegal tricks to literally get your child an advantage over other children. The parents are prioritizing wrestling success over an education, social life, etc. But you'll always have shitty parents so doubtful that happens.
  8. Yeah, it's extremely common but I guess the parents want their kid to have the best chance of 4 state titles and thus a better chance of being recruited. Plus, the other high level kids are doing it, so if they don't they probably feel behind. Not to mention that the highest level guys often have parents that are absolutely insane, and there ya go. Lame but that's life.
  9. There's a bunch of debate going on right now in the Twitter-sphere (or X-sphere?) about kids being held back as well as competing too long in college. Mineo, Willie, and plenty of others are chiming in.
  10. My bad, to be fair it was a little confusing. But, sounds like this is totally true.
  11. I just watched the video on Flo's website (linked in my post above this one) and he did say that. Seems completely irresponsible of the parents, but damn I would've loved doing that as a kid.
  12. https://www.flowrestling.org/articles/10415250-roman-bravo-young-did-8th-grade-twice-didnt-go-to-school-for-a-whole-year Watch the video... Either RBY is a gigantic liar or the Flo guys did in fact know what they were doing.
  13. Bo Nickal said he was held back and literally sat around by himself playing video games and going to wrestling practice for an entire year. Nothing like a redshirt year during middle school to make sure you have a leg up on the competition! It's extremely common, so I bet it is true.
  14. Interestingly enough, it seems that the vast majority of wrestlers who make the jump from 197 to heavyweight seem to have more success, not less. Wonder why that is.
  15. Based on Askren's comments on FRL (and he's very close with Mesenbrink obviously), absolutely not true.
  16. Everyone keeps saying that DT will never end up coaching because of all of his endeavors at and around Penn State, but at the end of the day, it shows that he is constantly adding more to his plate and still has the desire to grow. If he gets offered an incredible coaching gig when he's done wrestling (which is a huge time suck and likely to be after June of this year), the least of his worries is finding a manager of a juice bar or a way to transport his two cows. With this mindset, he'd never leave Pennsylvania due to sunk costs. I'd be way more inclined that he would see it as a way to EXPAND his brands and businesses, rather than shut the other ones down.
  17. Will he though? Ben Askren was just on FRL saying he hopes Levi Haines and Mesenbrink swap spots because Mesenbrink is better suited for 157 lbs. I'd be very surprised if he goes 174.
  18. Can't tell if you're being serious but damn that's wild if true lol
  19. I was being obtuse on purpose lol but apparently Askren didn't see eye to eye with the admin/coaches at Wisconsin when he was the RTC coach and, right or wrong, Ben is holding a grudge. Bono is paying royally for it as it seems no AWA kid will ever end up there while he's at the helm.
  20. I think he just comes across as the stereotypical jock without much going on between the ears. I have a feeling he's not actually bored he just doesn't convey it well.
  21. Accept he absolutely sucks and can't recruit anyone in the state after burning the Askren bridge
  22. Awesome ending. Both Caldwell's and this spladle ended in a pin, yet Jesse Mendez didn't get a single swipe. What the hell? Did the rules change or what?
  23. Did you really tho
  24. I bet they hire David Taylor.
  25. Bo Nickal and Anthony Cassar's ***I'm not very creative and act like a 5 year old***
