Followed by third, fifth and seventh place medal round matches. 6 p.m. Session 6- One Championship Mat Championship weight class finals. Coon lost 3-1. Evenly balanced on their feet, but the Iranian got the turn in par terre and Coon didn’t.

Question: why are the weights for men's freestyle different from greco? 60kg would work so much better for Vito.

I'm interested to see how Kolodzik does in two weeks. He looked as sharp as I've seen him. Teched everyone he wrestled without giving up an offensive point. I think he has a better chance of a deep run than anyone else at Last Chance, given his experience and the lack of an absolute hammer at 65kg.

As an alumnus who follows the program closely, I see encouraging signs for the future. McGowan (125) is greyshirting. Whalen (who won Midlands) and Mulhauser are taking a year off. Their current 125 pounder (Heethuis) is very good, but dropping a lot of weight. They have three freshmen starting who just need time to develop. Not only did Ayres leave on short notice, their associate head coach Sean Gray also followed him. Give Dubuque a few years to develop this team.

I’m sure many EIWA teams are trying to figure out Cornell’s secret sauce, arguing admissions work arounds (Ag School), huge support from the AD (former head coach), Koll’s charisma and ability to attract top talent, etc. Yet other schools seem to be getting more admissions support, the AD and Koll are gone, and Grey is killing it this year. Something in the Ithaca water?
