If there are different winners then the winners of the two tournaments have a wrestle off. Not sure what/any advantage returning medalists get outside of olympic years where you are automatically on the team if you medal. Higuchi , Ono, Kiyooka, Aoyagi and Takatani were their 5 five freestyle medalists in the olympics and worlds this year and only Aoyago competed here. He was able to win 70kg.

Your thoughts on the rivalry between these two Japanese universities

I thought they would like non-wrestling countries winning medals. Transfers are the only way for that to happen consistently. It certainly makes for a more entertaining product from a fan perspective. I don't like this change.

I'd love a worlds there, but I think the issue isn't that UWW doesn't want to go to these places but that these places don't want to host worlds. From what I understand you need to bid and they simply are not interested, which is why it ends up being the same 4 European countries and the occasional central Asian one. I feel like Budapest has hosted like half of the past 10 world championships, lol. Hats off to Japan, they are awesome. I am sure they have far fewer total wrestlers than the likes of Iran, America and Russia. Add in Judo and Sumo taking a lot of the talent and it makes what they have accomplished all the more impressive.

Sometimes I think Japan has a really incredible program, then I realise that two of their guys at this tournament wrestled at u23 worlds. Takahashi got injured at it. Beyond moronic to have a guy wrestle two worlds in the space of like 5 days.

92 might be Sad's best weight. Never the less him vs Taz rematch is must see. Still not sure the torch has been fully passed yet considering Taz's somewhat close matches with Snyder and Azarpira. Whatever happens I think its a lot closer than their 2023 worlds match.

Heard this rumour but I highly doubt it. He won his first cadet world title at 76kg and the final was a very competitive match with Ukraine. I don't think he was 20 years old at this time. His size and skill progression is consistent with his official age. IPWzt Are we saying Sad was 20 here despite being listed as 16? I find it hard to believe.

Haha. Agree its tough but his legacy is secure. Pretty much owned 86kg from 2018 to 2023 and was in my opinion the best guy in the weight since 2017. People forget he smoked Cox in match 1 and would certainly have won worlds that year. Any other medal he picks up here is just a bonus.

Could Vito beat Ono at worlds or is it hopeless?
