  1. Got it. Now I understand why so many people stare when I'm grocery shopping.
  2. Why ditch the singlet? You can make more wrestling one college season.
  3. Just think what he'll be like running around Iowa City with a bag 'o cash!
  4. This is funny...
  5. They might want it, but that and taking an active role in making it happen are two different things. That's risky business if it ever was made public. Now it happened X1,000,000 in basketball with Adidas, but people went to prison for that and billions in sales were at stake. I don't think anyone is risking jail time or even alienating other customers over sales of wrestling shoes and singlets.
  6. All coaches on almost any level would put the best wrestler they can out on the mat at every weight. As long as it doesn't negatively affect their recruiting at other weights as far as scholarship allocations.
  7. Then they would end up in the right place if that is their goal. Only they know what they value.
  8. I'm not at all. All I'm saying is that NIL $ is not that much of a factor in most transfer's decision making as to their landing strip. Maybe 2 schools that are very active with NIL are an exception. I'm not concerned at all about where Nagao and Truax end up. Would I like them at Penn State? Sure. Do I think that Penn State is the best place for them to reach their goals? Sure do. But at the end of the day, those guys will end up where they feel they belong. Bags of cash will have nothing to do with it.
  9. This is true. But do you believe that Cliff Keen,an MMA promoter, Rudis, Nike, or any other company are actively trying to recruit athletes to a certain program? I'm saying as an interested booster, how would I help Penn State land Aaron Nagao or Bernie Truax?
  10. I'm a big wrestling supporter of PSU. I support both the Penn State Wrestling Club as well as the NLWC. I also support the NIL collective Success with Honor on a monthly basis with my funds directed toward wrestling. I'd like to do more, but right now I can't with how things are run. I can't direct money toward trying to entice Aaron Nagao or anyone else to attend Penn State. I'd love to direct funds to benefit specific athletes, but I can't. It gets spread amongst rostered wrestlers. I can however, purchase their collectibles, shirts, or autographed photos, but that can happen anywhere and it doesn't entice an athlete to sign. The NIL recruiting myth is a myth, except at just a very few universities that have very specific donors that perhaps might be on a morning television show, and have more liberal uses of the NIL application. Regarding Penn State and whether it is a "State School" or not, technically it is not. But it is under very firm influence of the state and state laws regarding the use of NIL. And regarding the fact that Cael's salary is not published isn't because PSU is not state run, it is because he is not in the top 25 salaries of the University. The 25th is the executive VP of health at $662,000. So he's under that. I'm guessing well under, but I'm sure he makes additional money from other sources besides the University. There have been some changes with Success with Honor's leadership recently. And they want to get more aggressive in trying to benefit PSU athletes. But it is clear 80% of those efforts are directed towards football. another 15% towards basketball. Those are the money makers. Wrestling is possibly a distant 3rd, but I'm not even sure about that.
  11. I think just the opposite is true. 1. The state of PA is very restrictive regarding State Universities and how NIL is used. 2. PSU is very restrictive as well with the application of NIL dollars paid to athletes. This was one of the beefs that Micah Shrewsberry had with Penn State. Cael is also not thrilled with how PSU has embraced the NIL arms race. tOSU and Michigan are light years ahead of PSU in NIL $ being available to athletes.
  12. Can you specify when this was said? I listened to the entire interview and don't recall anything like that. I remember Aaron stating that it was about a week after the NCAA tournament that he began to consider it. I don't recall discussion about Basch contacting him about the portal the week before.
  13. Tough to sew up a deal that quick unless some conversation is happening before conversation is supposed to be happening. There is one common denominator in the quick commit equation.
  14. I think they should get extra credit for still wrestling at that age...
  15. We didn't eat anywhere in Detroit. Our suite had food included and it was outstanding. On St Patty's Day they had corned beef and cabbage, shepherd's pie, etc. Other days carved prime rib, and so on. This in addition to pizza/wings/dogs/etc the entire time.
  16. I didn't have a huge issue with Tulsa except for the cost of air fare. It was ridiculous. And there needs to be more accommodations within walking distance of the arena. I found sufficient places to eat/drink without extraordinary wait times. The people of Tulsa were extremely friendly. That was nice to experience. And if you ever go to Tulsa, have breakfast at The Cherry St Kitchen. I'm sad that my flight was too early Sunday to have my third breakfast in a row there.
  17. It was from the previous board. He stiffed a number of people, including me. He went AWOL for a while after that, but eventually made it back and just ignored the catcalls from the people he welched on.
  18. I thought he went to Melissa, TX but I'm not 100% sure of that.
  19. That was rumored to have happened with Willits and AOC, right?
  20. It's very simple. I was answering the question I quoted. Message board posts nor media coverage will dissuade anyone from eventually revealing their true nature. Interpret that as you may.
  21. The scorpion had to sting the frog. It was in his nature.
  22. This is a great story about two seals with totally different body types. I've read this a dozen times and it gives me chills each time. Part of the story was the basis for the Movie Bat 21, but Lieutenant Tommy Norris wasn't characterized in the film because it was still classified at the time. Also I might add that Tommy was a two time ACC conference champ wrestling for Maryland in 65 and 66. https://homeofheroes.com/heroes-stories/vietnam-war/mike-thornton-tom-norris/
  23. Admiral McRaven doesn't think his size will be an issue. https://brojure.com/miscellaneous/admiral-mcraven/a/1027/if-you-want-to-change-the-world-find-someone-to-help-you-paddle
  24. That would make you one of the lucky ones.
