  1. Lucas Byrd has wrestled in four post-seasons. He does not have any eligibility left.
  2. The arena being far from everything might work great for football/basketball/baseball but it’s not a great set up for a tournament with multiple sessions a day. You literally had to hop on Septa and go 20-30 minutes away just for lunch. Went to Angelo’s for cheesesteak and pizza on both Friday and Saturday. Got pizza Friday and cheesesteak on Saturday. Great food, but slammed and waited several hours each day. It seemed like everyone had the same idea. I was making small talk with the guy running it and he assured me this was a normal weekend for them (despite 90% of the crowd wearing wrestling shirts). I prefer a venue with a central location and many nearby places to walk to. Cleveland, St. Louis, and Minneapolis should be be better the next few years. Also, it was hard to see the scores. This was an issue in KC for the first session last year but was quickly fixed. It was an issue in Philly all weekend. No one needs constant updates of team scores. Put the match scores on the jumbotron instead.
  3. Anyone else find Philly to be a pretty lackluster city? Their subway looks like it hasn’t been improved in 30+ years. Everywhere smells like pee (and weed, but what big city doesn’t these days?). The idea of putting all of the sports venues in one central location away from the city center probably works great for other sports where you are attending maybe one game a week and then heading home, but it is brutal for wrestling with multiple sessions a day. I’ll gladly hang in most big cities, but Philly is seriously underwhelming. It’s the Detroit of the East Coast.
  4. Go walk around the nearest bar after Saturday night at NCAA’s and you’ll be surprised at who you run into. Yes, even Nittany Lions. No judgement, but these are college kids and they’re going to be college kids after all.
  5. What people maybe couldn’t see on tv was that during the sequence from 2:00-1:00 when Dake got taken down, the chairman was waving at the other officials to stop the match. He even went as far as to nearly throw a stuffed animal on the mat, meanwhile action continued and Dake got scored on. I think the challenge may have had something to do with this.
  6. Will never get over this guy basically arguing with Dake on the mic during the review in his bronze medal match.
  7. Kiyooki for Men’s FS. That weight was deeeeeep and he ran through it.
  8. This. The whole Dake thing was about bad time. The chairman at the table was literally trying to get the official to stop the match. He was even picking up stuff, waving it at the official, and at one point it looked like he was going to throw a stuffed animal onto the mat. Meanwhile Dake is wrestling and gives up the TD while waiting for the match to stop. It was chaotic.
  9. Amouzad is a freak. Still looks lanky and young, which is why I thought the others might have a chance. They don’t.
  10. Lots of people are throwing around the concept of “not lifting” but what they really mean is they aren’t doing traditional lifting. There is still tons of medicine ball lifts, and kettle bells, and body weight stuff. With that said, Oklahoma State hasn’t touched any weights since Taylor got there.
  11. I just want to chime in that as much as we love DT (myself included), he is not the GOAT of American wrestling.
  12. We got our tickets from lottery and first drop, but there are still tons available on resale page if anyone is on the fence.
  13. I will be there for all men’s freestyle. We are staying close to Eiffel Tower and wrestling. Looking forward to a great week in the city. Can not wait!
  14. $15k isn’t going to go a long way toward getting family to the Olympics in Paris. As a kid, my stepdad was a US Olympian (not wrestling). We did all sorts of fundraising so that our family could attend the games and it still wasn’t enough to get everyone there (the kids stayed home). People couldn’t believe that we couldn’t afford to go without these fundraiser. I think society has conditioned us to believe Olympic athletes must be rich, just like their NFL/NBA/MLB counterparts, when the truth is many of them are just scraping by. If you don’t want to contribute, just move on. On the topic of “transfers” in international wrestling - I think it makes it more interesting. We are attending this year in Paris and cannot wait to watch the 57kg bracket because of all of the Americans in it. Will still be pulling for Spencer Lee though!
