  1. South Dakota State wrestlers Zach Carlson and Tanner Sloan each won by major decision and the Jackrabbits picked up a pair of forfeits to defeat Fresno State, 26-12, in a Big 12 Conference dual Saturday night at Frost Arena. In winning their fourth dual in a row, the Jackrabbits improved to 11-5 overall and 6-2 in Big 12 action. Fresno State dropped to 9-9 overall and 4-3 against league foes. The Bulldogs forfeited at 125 and 149 pounds, allowing SDSU to build a 15-3 lead through four matches. Clay Carlson posted a 7-3 decision over Gary Joint in the 141-pound bout for the lone Jackrabbit victory in a contested match in the early going. Coming out of the intermission, Tanner Cook continued his winning ways at 165 pounds by notching an 18-12 decision over Adam Kemp. Cook scored takedowns on a pair of throws in the first period and followed each with four-point near-falls for a 12-2 first-period lead. Kemp countered with two takedowns in each of the next two periods, but Cook found enough offense down the stretch to hold on for his 16th win of the season. The major decisions by Zach Carlson and Sloan came in consecutive matches. Carlson, ranked 17th at 184 pounds, got out to an early lead in his match against Hunter Cruz with a takedown and two-point near-fall before pouring it on in the third period with a takedown and four-point near-fall en route to a 16-2 victory. Sloan racked up more than five minutes of riding time in his 9-0 win over Dominic Kincaid. The 19th-ranked Sloan recorded a first-period takedown and later upped his lead to 4-0 with a reversal early in the second period. He notched another takedown off a neutral start in the third period and picked up two additional points when Kincaid was penalized for stalling. Fresno State got on the board as Lawrence Saenz scored a 7-2 decision over Zach Price in the 133-pound matchup. The Bulldogs closed to within 18-9 after wins by Jacob Wright at 157 pounds and Jackson Hemauer at 174 pounds. Wright needed overtime to down Peyton Smith, 9-3, turning a takedown in the extra session into a four-point near-fall. Josh Hokit, ranked 11th at heavyweight, closed the dual with a 5-2 decision over Blake Wolters. UP NEXT The Jackrabbits close out the weekend by hosting Stanford Sunday night at Frost Arena. 2. PHILADELPHIA -- Drexel wrestling sent out its seven-member senior class in grand fashion with a 27-15 win over nearby rival Penn in the Battle for the Cheesesteak Trophy. Saturday night's win at the Daskalakis Athletic Center is the fifth in a row against the Quakers. Prior to the action, Drexel paid tribute to departing grapplers Dakota Greene, Brendan Hasson, Michah Watson, Henry Williams, Owen Brooks, Nick Widmann and Ebed Jarrell. It was an inauspicious start to the night for the Dragons (7-10, 3-5 EIWA) as the Quakers (5-8, 4-5) scored a pair of major decisions at 141 and 149 pounds to jump out to an 8-0 lead. However, Drexel called Penn and raised its opponent in a big way. Parker Kropman put the Dragons on the board with a fall against Jon Errico. The 33rd-ranked 157-pounder executed a single-underhook throw from standing to put his opponent in a vulnerable position and eventually squared Errico's shoulders to the mat with just three seconds left in the opening period. Down 8-6, No. 18 Jarrell sent Drexel ahead for good with a first-period fall of his own. Like Kropman, Jarrell finished the match in a flash, going from a neutral position to a winning one in one fell swoop. With double underhooks, he tossed Jake Lizak to the mat and stuck his shoulders to the ground with just under one minute remaining in the first. In a night to remember for the redshirt-senior, Jarrell notched the 74th victory of his career and his 21st win by fall, moving him into a two-way tie with Jason Staso (1999-02) for the ninth most in program history. Sticking to script, 27th-ranked Michael O'Malley shot out of the gates at 174 pounds, hunting another bonus-point victory. As is often the case, the redshirt-freshman took down Neil Antrassian early then went to work on the ground. Only this time, O'Malley could not turn his foe and settled for a 2-0 lead after the first period. The grapplers started on their feet in the second period, but neither side could score. O'Malley tacked on an escape point in the third and collected the riding time point for a 4-0 decision and his 16th win of the season. John Stout stopped Drexel's run with a decision victory at 184 pounds. After six bouts, the Dragons' lead was 15-11. The Dragons earned a pair of hard-fought decisions at 197 pounds and heavyweight to shut the door on the Quakers. No. 28 Bryan McLaughlin avenged his loss in the fourth-place match of the Keystone Classic with a 7-5 decision over No. 29 Cole Urbas. McLaughlin did most of his work in the first period, taking down Urbas three times in the first three minutes. Sean O'Malley capped his two-win Saturday with a 4-1 decision over Nate Hoaglund at 285 pounds. O'Malley pressed the issue early on, drawing a pair of stall warnings in the first period to take a 1-0 lead. Hoaglund tied the bout with a second-period escape, but the third period was O'Malley's as he went ahead with an escape then sealed the win with a late takedown. Penn won the last contested match of the night by major decision at 125 pounds before forfeiting at 133 to wrap up the dual. One final dual this Friday at Northern Illinois awaits the Dragons before postseason action begins. The EIWA Championships run March 6-7 in Bethlehem, Pa. Results: 141: No. 13 Doug Zapf major dec. 7. Last Sunday's win over Cornell ended a long skid against the Big Red, a long drought without an Ivy League title, and Cornell's 92-match, 18-year Ivy League winning streak. Saturday in Dillon Gym, the Tigers arrived knowing they'd have at least a share of the Ivy League title, but a win over Penn would mean that title would be all Princeton's. The Tigers went right to work in taking care of that outright title, winning the first seven matches on the way to a 33-6 victory. Right after, Princeton turned around to complete a sweep of Philadelphia's two Division I programs, knocking off Drexel 22-16. The Penn win and the 5-0 sweep of the Ivy League gave Princeton its first perfect Ivy League season since 1986, which was also Princeton's last Ivy title year. With the Ivy and Philadelphia sweeps in hand, Princeton will look for a New Jersey sweep for the first time since the 1982-83 season when Rutgers visits Jadwin Gym. Tickets are available here. 8. ITHACA, N.Y. -- Wrestling in its final dual of the season at the Friedman Wrestling Center, Cornell wrestling defeated Binghamton by a final score of 32-8 on Saturday, Feb. 15. It's the 21st season of 10+ dual wins in the Rob Koll coaching era and the 37th such season in program history. A win on Saturday improves Cornell's record to 10-6 overall and 5-2 against EIWA opponents, while Binghamton falls to 3-11 and 2-9 in the EIWA. The win over Binghamton is Cornell's 38th straight over New York state opponents. Cornell is now 81-15-1 all-time inside the Friedman Wrestling Center. Action went off the mat with 10 seconds remaining in the bout, giving Baughman an opportunity to shoot and score on the restart. Baughman found the takedown with five seconds remaining to defeat Sparacio. Hunter Richard continued to roll through his competition, staying very active throughout his entire bout with Matt Swanson. Richard used five takedowns to defeat Swanson by major decision, 15-4. Following Richard's match at 149, Adam Santoro had the easiest match of the afternoon, taking a win by forfeit at 157 pounds. Appearing in his first dual since a pair of appearances at the 2018-19 South Beach Duals, Schoenherr made the most of his final time wrestling in Friedman. Schoenherr put on a show, electrifying the crowd to the tune of six takedowns en route to a 13-5 major decision at 165 pounds. Andrew Berreyesa gave Cornell an unblemished 20-0 lead following his match at 174 pounds, defeating Alex Melikian by decision, 10-5. Darmstadt would avenge Loew's loss however, pinning Sam DePrez in 1:48 during the 197-pound bout. Binghamton found its second major decision of the day at heavyweight, where Joe Doyle bested Seth Janney, 11-2. The Big Red closed Saturday's dual with a pair of lightweight wins, with Dom LaJoie defeating Tommaso Frezza at 125 pounds, 4-3, and Chas Tucker topping Zack Trampe in sudden victory, 8-6. It's another ranked victory for Tucker, who improves to 26-0 for the season and 10-0 against ranked opponents. Trampe isn't yet ranked via FloWrestling, but checked in at No. 9 on InterMat earlier this week. Tucker has won 40 straight non-NCAA Tournament matches and 26 straight dual matches, and is lossless in the regular season since Dec. 30, 2018. 10. SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. -- The CSU Bakersfield wrestling team won the first five bouts of its Pac-12 dual against Cal Poly Friday night and never looked back. The Roadrunners tamed the Mustangs, winning eight bouts in total, on the way to a 26-9 road victory in the Mott Athletic Center. "We wrestled well tonight," said Manny Rivera, Head Coach of the `Runner. "The boys showed up. We were trying to make a statement against Cal Poly…Anytime we get to compete well, it's a pretty good day. We didn't wrestle perfect, we didn't quite execute everything, but definitely momentum has been on our side and we just have to keep it going." At 125 pounds, Alex Hernandez-Figueroa dominated his way to 7-1 decision over Cal Poly's Benny Martinez. In the 133-pound bout, Chance Rich kept the `Runner momentum rolling with a 5-1 decision over Cole Reyes before Angelo Martinoni (141) used a big second period to rout Jake Ryan, 15-5. Russell Rohlfing kept his outstanding senior season going as the 149-pounder earned a 7-3 decision against Wyatt Cornelison. Bakersfield's success continued into the 157-pound bout, which turned out to be the most thrilling of the match. With three seconds remaining, Gerl squeaked out a reversal and took a 4-3 victory, extending Bakersfield's lead to 16-0. Cal Poly picked up the first of its two victories on the night when Bernie Truax won by tech fall, 15-0, over Jacob Thalin (165). In the 174-pound bout, Albert Urias led Dylan Miracle by one point in the third period. Urias gave up an escape, but quickly got back in control with another takedown and earned a 4-2 decision. At 184, Josh Loomer raced out to an early lead against Trent Tracy and finished off an 11-3 major decision to make Bakersfield's lead 23-5. 11. OREM, Utah -- Utah Valley University wrestling snapped its losing streak with a 20-16 Big 12 Conference victory over Northern Colorado on Friday night at Lockhart Arena. The Wolverines (2-10, 1-7 Big 12) and Bears (2-7, 1-5 Big 12) split the contest at five wins apiece, but bonus points proved to be the difference as UVU got a pin from freshman Kainalu Estrella (141 pounds) as well as major decisions from seniors Kimball Bastian (174) and Tanner Orndorff (197), and another key win from Taylor LaMont (133) over a top-20 opponent in the final match of the night to seal the win for the Wolverines. The contest marked Senior Night for UVU, as the Wolverines honored senior Bastian, Tanner Orndorff, Grant LaMont, and Landon Knutzen prior to the match. "We've focused the last couple of weeks on attitude, to make sure that every guy on this team fights and has a championship attitude, and I thought that we showed that tonight," head UVU coach Greg Williams said. "Chip (Kainalu) was inspirational for us. To go out and pin a tough opponent like that was huge and I'm very proud of him for going out doing exactly what we wanted him to do. "I was also pleased with how our seniors wrestled -- with Kimball and Tanner both picking up extra points for us -- as well as how Taylor was able to make a great adjustment to beat another top-20 opponent tonight." Filling in for UVU on the night and in his first dual match of his collegiate career, 141-pound redshirt freshman Estrella got the Wolverines off to a strong start by coming through with a second period fall over UNC's Brody Lamb to give UVU a 6-0 advantage. With the Hawaii native Estrella holding to an 8-5 lead in the second, the Wolverine redshirt freshman put the match away with a throw and a quick pin (4:41) to give UVU the early lead. The Bears then answered back with a trio of consecutive wins by decision from No. 10 Andrew Alirez (149), Jimmy Fate (157) and No. 31 Austin Matthews (165) to take a 9-6 advantage in the team score. Both Jed Loveless (157) and Koy Wilkinson (165) attempted to make a couple of late comebacks in their bouts, but in the end their opponents managed to hold on to record respective 5-3 and 9-7 decisions. In his final home match of his stellar career, the two-time NCAA qualifier Bastian struck back for the Wolverines with an 11-2 major decision over Billy Higgins to give UVU a 10-9 lead. With Bastian holding to a 7-2 lead midway through the third, the ninth-ranked senior made his move with a stall point, followed by his fourth takedown of the match and an additional riding time point to earn the major decision and improve to 12-6 on the season. Then in a tightly contested match at 184-pounds, UVU's Ashton Seely looked to score the upset over No. 23 Alan Clothier but in the end Clothier managed to escape with a 7-6 decision. Trailing 7-3 in the third, Seely recorded a takedown and a late stall point to pull within one but Clothier managed to hold on to give the Bears a 12-10 lead. Then in senior Tanner Orndroff's final match at home, the 19th-ranked UVU three-time NCAA qualifier too earned a bonus-point win with a 14-4 major decision over UNC's Xavier Vasquez to give Utah Valley a 14-12 advantage. Up 6-2 in the final period, Orndorff earned the major with three more takedowns, a stall point and an impressive tally of 4:00 minutes of riding time to improve to 11-8 on the year. UVU then added to its lead at heavyweight thanks to a 2-0 decision from No. 4 Tate Orndorff over UNC's Robert Winters. After riding out Winters in the second stanza, Orndorff followed with an escape and riding time in the third to improve to 15-2 on the season and give the Wolverines a 17-12 lead on the team score. A 14-1 major decision from UNC 125-pounder Jace Koelzer then made it 17-16 heading into the final match of the night between No. 11 Taylor LaMont and No. 18 Mosha Schwartz. Schwartz struck first in the 133-pound marquee match with an early takedown, but the UVU 2018 NCAA qualifier LaMont answered with an escape and a takedown to pit the match at 3-3 at the end of the opening period. Later knotted at 6-6 in the second, LaMont then got in on a couple of shots to take a 10-7 lead at the end of two. Schwartz then recorded a reversal in the third to make it 10-9, but LaMont responded with an escape to hold on to win by a score of 11-9. LaMont improves to 12-5 on the year with his third victory over a top-20 opponent in the last three weeks. "All day today I was thinking about how this would be my last match at home, and it's been kind of bittersweet. But to come out win my final home match and have my team perform this well was just sweet," 174-pound senior Bastian said. "I got kind of emotional there during the nation anthem, but it felt good to come out and take care of business in front of my family." The contest marked UVU's final home match of the 2019-20 season and snapped a 10-match skid for the short-handed Wolverines that have been without returning NCAA qualifiers Matt Findlay (149) and Demetrius Romero (165) all season due to injuries. UVU will now head on the road next week for their final two regular season duals of the year. The Wolverines will first face Ohio in non-conference action on Friday, Feb. 21, before facing Big 12 foe West Virginia in Morgantown on Sunday, Feb. 23. The 2020 Big 12 Championships will then follow on March 7-8 in Tulsa, Oklahoma. 12. Loras defeated Wartburg to claim the A-R-C championship (Photo/Loras College Athletics) WAVERLY, Iowa -- In a rematch of last years American Rivers Conference (A-R-C) championship , the No. 3 Loras College Duhawks made history Friday night by capturing the program's first conference title, defeating No. 1 Wartburg 19-17 in a thrilling back-and-forth dual. The Duhawk victory snapped Wartburg's run of 27-consecutive conference titles that dated back to 1994 and also handed the Knights their first loss ever at Levick Arena. Head Coach TJ Miller, who wrestled for Wartburg and was coached by his father, put a high emphasis on the importance of what the win means for Loras College. "It means a lot to Loras College. I told my team that at some point the streak has to be ended, so why not us" said Miller. "My father started the streak a long time ago. It's been tough to break. I feel relieved, it means so much to not just our guys, but our alumni, boosters, faculty, staff and administration. It's awesome". The A-R-C championship started on a sour note for the Duhawks, who trailed 7-0 heading into a battle of top grapplers at 141-pounds. Senior and two-time All-American No. 6/4 Clint Lembeck put the Duhawks on the board by defeating No. 4/6 Brady Fritz in a tightly contested match. Facing a 2-0 deficit in the third period, Lembeck used a series of near-fall to complete the third-period comeback with a 5-4 victory at 141-pounds. Continuing the momentum for the Duhawks was Daniel Ruiz who scored a thrilling overtime victory over former National Champion Brock Rathbun at 149-lbs. Locked at two points each after three periods, Ruiz claimed the deciding takedown midway through the overtime period to come away with the 4-2 decision. Senior All-American No. 4/2 Brandon Murray silenced the Knight crowd by recording a third-period fall over Shea Hartzler at 157-lbs. Murray used a plethora of points to build an early lead over Hartzler before pinning his opponent in the third. The fall put the Duhawks in the lead 12-7, yet Wartburg closed the gap by securing a victory at 165-pounds. After suffering a first-period takedown, returning All-American No. 5/5 Jacob Krakow battled back to claim an 8-2 decision over Warthburg's Paul Calo. The win for Krakow put the team score to 15-10 for the Duhawks. Following a setback at 184 lbs., senior and the No.1 ranked 197-lbs. wrestler in the country Guy Patron Jr. kept his undefeated senior campaign intact by cruising to a major decision over No. 3/4 Kobe Woods at 197-lbs. A Wartburg decision at heavyweight closed the gap but it was too little too late for the Knights, who's 27-year reign over the conference was put to an end courtesy of the Duhawks by a score of 19-17. After locking up their first conference title in program history, the Duhawks will take two weeks off before kicking off the postseason at the NCAA Lower Midwest Regional. 14. DEKALB, Ill. -- The Northern Illinois University wrestling team posted a dramatic come-from-behind victory over Mid-American Conference foe Buffalo in Victor E. Court Friday night. The Huskies (12-4, 7-2) scored a 19-16 victory over the Bulls in a contest that featured four overtime matches, three bonus point wins and went down to the final match. With the match tied, 16-16, headed into the final bout of the night, reigning MAC West Wrestler of the Week Max Ihry scored the match-clinching victory when he defeated Nolan Terrance, 3-2, at 285. After wrestling to a 0-0 tie in the first period, Ihry and Nolan exchanged escape points to force overtime. Neither wrestler could score a point in the first overtime period, so Ihry took a 2-1 lead after an escape in the second overtime session. Terrance returned the favor in the third overtime with an escape of his own. After Ihry scored an escape in the first tiebreaker, Terrance chose neutral and Ihry was able to stay on his feet to score the win. "When you get into these conference dual meets, these are hard-fought scrappy battles," said NIU head coach Ryan Ludwig. "We knew that coming in. Quite frankly, we didn't have the start we wanted. We had to respond and come out of that locker room in the second half with renewed attitude and renewed spark and energy." NIU dug themselves and early 10-3 hole after dropping two of the first three bouts of the night, one by maj. dec. and the second by fall. McCoy Kent stemmed the tied when he earned a 6-4 victory at 149 in overtime to cut the Buffalo lead to 10-6. However, Mason Kauffman dropped his match at 157 and the Huskies went into halftime trailing, 13-6. Izzak Olejnik set the tone in the second half with a 5-3 victory over Troy Keller at 165. Olejnik's victory sparked a Huskie run. A third-period surge by Kenny Moore proved to be the difference in his bout at 174. "Kudos to Izzak for getting arguably the biggest win of his year thus far," Ludwig said. "Keller was highly-ranked and a returning MAC champ. He got us started. That was a huge momentum shift for us." Moore jumped out to a 2-1 first period lead, however, Bryson Alsteen tied the match with a second period escape. Moore asserted himself in the third peiord. After an escape he earned a takedown and two nearfall points to take a 5-2 lead. His riding time gave him an extra point after the match. Brit Wilson was solid at 184, earning the Huskies their lone bonus-point victory of the night. He scored a 9-1 victory over Peter Acciardi. Bryce West gave NIU a 3-0 lead when he scored a 7-1 decision over Buffalo's Jordan Reyes at 125 in the first match of the night. The Huskies return to action Friday, Feb. 21 when NIU welcomes Drexel to Victor E. Court for Senior Night. The match begins at 7 p.m. and will be shown on NIUTube on NIUHuskies.com. 15. NORMAN -- Oklahoma used three major decisions and wins from all five of its ranked wrestlers to defeat Air Force, 24-10, inside McCasland Field House on Friday night. The win snapped a four-match losing streak for the Sooners (4-6 overall, 2-5 Big 12), who took the lead after the third bout of the night and never looked back, as the program improved to 5-0 all-time versus Air Force (4-6 overall, 1-5 Big 12). "Overall, I'm pleased because college wrestling is tough," head coach Lou Rosselli said after the win. "We have a lot of young guys in there. I was glad to see some people getting some bonus points. We still have to build our leads, and still have some things we can work on. There was a lot of good things and it was a good win." The dual got started at 165 when Air Force's Vincent Dolce earned a major decision victory over Elijah Joseph to put the Falcons up 4-0, but the Sooners got the ball rolling after the opening bout. At 174, No. 12 Anthony Mantanona got his eighth win of the dual season when he defeated Cody Surratt via 10-3 decision. Mantanona held a 2-1 lead after two periods, but turned it on in the final frame, as he secured a trio of takedowns, an escape point and a bonus point for riding time. Up next on the mat for the Sooners was freshman Darrien Roberts at 184. As the final seconds of the second period ticked away Roberts collected a takedown of Air Force's Jake Thompson to take a 4-2 lead that held for the remainder of the bout. Roberts' win moved him 5-5 in dual action this year and 11-9 overall. More importantly, it gave the Sooners a 6-4 lead that they wouldn't surrender. "What's impressive about Darrien's win is that he is a true freshman and every win you get is a big win." Rosselli said. "There was a clip in that match for about 30 seconds where he just fought. If he had stopped wrestling, he could've lost, but he just kept fighting and so he won. Good guys find ways to win, so I'm really pleased with him." At 197, No. 15 Jake Woodley controlled his bout with Casey Jumps from the start en route to a 16-5 major decision. The bonus point victory was Woodley's third of the season, as he joined four other Sooners with seven wins in dual action. The Sooners dropped the next bout at 285, after Collin McCoy suffered a tough 8-7 defeat to Kayne Hutchinson, bringing the score to a 10-7 OU advantage at the break. When the teams returned to the mat, Christian Moody took the floor for Oklahoma at 125. The redshirt senior earned his 58th career victory via a 13-4 major decision. The major decision was the Collinsville, Okla., native's first of the season as he improved to 3-5 in duals this year. Moody's win marked the start of three straight victories for the Sooners, as OU looked to finish the Falcons. No. 15 Anthony Madrigal took care of Air Force's Jared Van Vleet at 133, via a 7-2 decision to put the Sooners up 17-7 with just three bouts left on the card. Madrigal was followed up by a 11-5 decision from No. 7 Dom Demas, clinching the OU victory. The reigning Big 12 champion took down Air Force's Lenny Petersen five times in the bout, as he improved to 21-3 on the year and 9-1 in duals. At 149, Jacob Butler dropped a close bout to Air Force's Dylan Martinez, 4-2. The two wrestlers were tied at 2-2 heading into the final frame, but Butler was taken down midway through the final frame and ran out of time to tie it up, giving Air Force the decision. The final match of the dual featured the most dominating performance of the night as No. 22 Justin Thomas blanked Air Force's Trey Brisker en route to a 10-0 major decision. Thomas has been on a tear over the past two months, going 7-1 in those bouts and winning the last four by either major decision or fall. The victory finalized the score at 24-10, giving the Sooners their second Big 12 win of the season. UP NEXT The Sooners are back in action on Sunday, Feb. 16 when they travel to Stillwater for the second Bedlam dual of the season. The dual starts at 1 p.m. and will be broadcast on ESPNU. "They've got a good team, we've got to be ready to compete." Rosselli said of the Cowboys. "There are some really fun matchups, and we'll see who comes ready to wrestle and who wants to fight for seven minutes. It's another opportunity to compete." 18. ANNAPOLIS, Md. -- In a match where both teams won five bouts by decision, the Old Dominion wrestling team (8-9, 4-2 MAC) came away with a hard-fought 16-15 victory over Navy (8-5, 3-1 EIWA) on Friday night, earning the tie-breaking win by way of criteria after collecting 41 total match points to Navy's 29. "I thought we wrestled hard in enemy territory," head coach Steve Martin said after the ODU victory, its fourth in its last five matches. "Navy always fights hard and we knew nothing would be easy going into this match." ODU's upset of the night that helped them leave the Naval Academy with a victory came from senior Timothy Young, who earned a 5-3 win by decision over No. 25 Jacob Koser. With the score even at 2-2 after the first period, Young broke away to take a slight lead with a takedown in the second frame and held a 4-3 advantage. The Aurora, Illinois native added an extra point in the third period and held on to beat the ranked Midshipman, 5-3. The win was Young's second against a top-25 opponent this year. Friday's match began at 165 pounds, and the Monarchs came out firing, winning four of the five bouts in the higher-weight classes, including Young's upset. Shane Jones started the night with a 9-3 win by decision over Brian Case in the first bout of the night, earning an early takedown and never looking back. Jones' nine points in his bout were the most earned by a Monarch, a stat that would prove to be beneficial to ODU much later in the night. After No. 16 Spencer Carey earned a 5-2 decision over Alex Cramer in the 174-pound bout, Antonio Agee earned a 7-1 decision over Andrew Buckley, highlighted by over two minutes of riding time in the battle. Young's 5-3 upset win at 197 pounds increased the Monarch lead to 9-3 before junior Will Hilliard took down his opponent by the same score, giving the Monarchs their largest lead of the night at nine points. Hilliard, who trailed, 2-1 after the first frame, managed to outscore Riley Smith 4-1 in the final four minutes of action for the victory. The Midshipmen stormed back in the lower-weight battles, as their comeback started at 125 pounds, where No. 14 Killian Cardinale met No. 26 Logan Treaster. The two ranked combatants only had a point between them after two periods, an escape point earned by Cardinale. Treaster earned an escape point of his own early in the third period to knot up the score again. The battle remained deadlocked at one until the final seconds of regulation, when Treaster took down the ranked Monarch to earn his 20th win of the season. On the other side, Cardinale's loss broke a streak of five consecutive hand-raises for the redshirt sophomore. Navy won another tight matchup in the following bout at 133 pounds, with Casey Cobb walking away with a 3-1 sudden-victory over Shannon Hanna II. Hanna showed incredible balance throughout the entire melee, as Cobb kept going after the Monarch's left leg and hoisting it in the air, but Hanna wouldn't go down. The two were tied at one apiece after regulation, and Cobb finally earned the takedown of Hanna in the overtime period. In the second of two matchups against ranked wrestlers, No. 18 Sa'Derian Perry was tasked with facing No. 31 Cody Trybus in the 141-pound match. Trybus had a 1-0 lead after two periods thanks to an escape point, but Perry earned one of his own in the early stages of the final frame. Later on, Trybus earned a takedown and Perry would escape, but the ranked Monarch couldn't find another point, ultimately taking a 3-2 loss and allowing Navy to tie the dual at 12 apiece. ODU would retake the lead in the 149-pound matchup, as Kenan Carter earned a decisive 7-2 win by decision over Wyatt Long. Carter earned a takedown in the first period and an immediate reversal in the second frame to take a 4-1 lead into the final two minutes. Carter would add three more points with another takedown and riding time to win by five. In the final bout of the evening, No. 10 Larry Early was upset by Jared Prince at 157 pounds in a 3-2 decision, tying the dual at 15-15 and snapping Early's stretch of 12 wins in his last 13 matches. Thanks in part to Jones' nine points and Agee and Carter's seven-point tallies, ODU outscored the Midshipmen, 41-29 in total match points to clinch the victory. "We started out very strong and I thought all of our guys gave a great effort tonight," Martin said of his team. "On to the next one at George Mason." Up Next The Monarchs head to Fairfax, Virginia to take on George Mason in their final road dual of the season and their first Mid-American Conference match in three weeks on Sunday, February 16 at 12 p.m. The Monarchs then wrap up the 2019-2020 regular season at home against Bloomsburg on Sunday, February 23. 19. PISCATAWAY, N.J. -- Behind six individual victories, including a fall from Alex Esposito (HWT) and a Top-10 upset from No. 25 Nicolas Aguilar (125), Rutgers wrestling (10-6, 4-5) defeated No. 25 Northwestern (4-7, 2-6), 25-13, on Friday night in front of 3,497 fans at the RAC. Willie Scott (174) worked a technical fall while No. 9 Sammy Alvarez (133), No. 15 Billy Janzer (184), and Gerard Angelo (149) all added bonus points with major decisions against the Wildcats, as the Scarlet Knights moved to 4-0 all-time against Northwestern since RU joined the Big Ten Conference in 2014. Prior to the match, the Scarlet Knights honored its 2020 senior class – Scott, Christian Colucci, Zach Firestone, Anthony Olivieri, and Jordan Pagano. Sam Cali, a member of the team who passed away after his redshirt freshman season in 2016, was also honored during the ceremony with his family in attendance. "We haven't won here in a while, so it was important to get one here at the RAC," said head coach Scott Goodale. "It's good for us heading into this big Princeton match next weekend. It's a long week coming up, so it's always better going into the room on Monday with a win. I'm fired up for our guys." HOW IT HAPPENED • After Brett Donner (165) opened the dual with a tough 2-0 loss to No. 13 Shayne Oster, Scott followed against Ankhaa Enkhmandakh and went right to work. In his last home dual match at the RAC, Scott worked two takedowns in the opening period, worked a two-point tilt in the second and closed out the bout with two consecutive takedowns and a four-point tilt in the final seconds for the 16-1 tech fall. • Scott's tech fall put RU ahead 5-3, a lead it would not relinquish the rest of the night. Janzer faced Jack Jessen in the next match, and also dictated the pace. He landed an early single-leg takedown in the first 30 seconds of the opening period, collected another takedown in the second and added two in the final two minutes for the 10-2 major decision. • Pagano faced No. 8 Lucas Davison in the first ranked-vs.-ranked matchup of the night. Pagano wrestled tough against Davison, as both scrambled throughout. However, Davison's takedown in the second period proved to be the difference in the 2-0 decision. • Esposito took the mat against Jack Heyob and quickly fell behind 6-1 after Heyob caught him on his back. But Esposito never relented. Trailing 7-2 with 10 seconds left in the second period, Esposito stuck a deep shot on Heyob and drove him down onto the mat on his back, earning the fall with one second to go in the period. The pin, Esposito's team-high eighth of the season, gave Rutgers a commanding 15-6 lead at intermission. • Back-to-back wins would follow for the Scarlet Knights out of the break, beginning with Aguilar against No. 10 Michael DeAugustino. Tied 1-1 late in the third period, Aguilar and DeAugustino were caught in a scramble. Aguilar shot up from under his opponent's legs, grabbed the head and swung himself around for the takedown. Aguilar held on in the closing seconds for the 3-1 final for the biggest individual victory of his young collegiate career. • Alvarez went up against Dylan Utterback and wasted no time, using takedowns in the first and second periods a for a 5-1 lead. Beginning on top for the final period, Alvarez registered five takedowns down the stretch en route to the 16-4 major. The bonus-point victory gave Rutgers a 22-6 lead with three bouts remaining. • After JoJo Aragona (141) dropped a 2-0 decision to Alec McKenna, Angelo followed with a convincing 10-2 major decision over Eric Yang. Up 4-2 with under 10 seconds to go in the match, Angelo caught Yang in a cradle and earned a takedown and four-back points for the final result. • Michael VanBrill (157) lost by major to 2019 All-American No. 1 Ryan Deakin to close out the night, but the dual was already in hand as RU walked out of the RAC with a 26-13 win. Notes • Rutgers is now 4-0 all-time against Northwestern, with the two schools also meeting in 2015, 2017 and 2018. • The five bonus-point victories against the Wildcats were the most in a dual for Rutgers (Division I) this season. • Janzer now owns a team-high 14 dual victories and 47 team points. • With Aguilars' victory on Friday night, RU now features three wrestlers with more than 20 wins. Alvarez leads the team with 22, Pagano owns 21 and Aguilar is third on the pogrom with 20. 23. CLARION, Pa. -- The Golden Eagle wrestling team clinched a winning dual season with a dominant effort over Kent State on Friday, as Clarion defeated the Golden Flashes 30-8 at Tippin Gym. Clarion (9-5, 6-3 MAC East) took eight of the 10 bouts to claim their first win over Kent State since the 2000-01 season, snapping a nine-match losing streak to the Golden Flashes. Brock Zacherl wrestled the final home dual of his Clarion career, defeating Kody Komara 3-2 in the 149-pound bout. The 12th-ranked wrestler in the most recent NCAA coaches' panel, Zacherl earned the distinction of an undefeated home dual record. He went 44-0 as an attached wrestler at home, and his victory over Komara marked the first win of the night for the Golden Eagles. It would not be the last, though, as Clarion powered past the Golden Flashes, winning a number of close decisions to seal the win. Christian Sequete had one such decision, earning the first home dual win of his career with a 4-3 decision over Shane Mast. The win halted Kent State's momentum after they had scored their second major decision over the evening, and it put Clarion ahead 12-8 in the team match. The Golden Flashes never threatened the team score again as Greg Bulsak followed up with a 6-1 decision to Colin McCracken in the 197-pound bout. Ty Bagoly locked up the team victory with a win by fall at 285 pounds, tossing Spencer Berthold to his back and pinning him just 45 seconds into the first period to make it a 21-8 advantage. Jake Gromacki followed up with a 6-5 decision over Tomas Guitierrez. Also recording wins were Taylor Ortz, who returned to the lineup at 157 pounds for a 10-6 win over Brady Chrisman, and Mike Bartolo, who beat Kade Byland by 12-8 decision. 24. LEWISBURG, Pa. -- No. 11 Lehigh kicked off a stretch of three duals in eight days with a strong 32-8 win at Bucknell Friday night at Davis Gym. The Mountain Hawks won eight bouts, scored bonus points in four of those wins, and held a 19-2 edge in takedowns as Lehigh wins its ninth straight dual, improving to 10-3 overall and 6-1 against EIWA foes. Bucknell actually finished the night with more reversals (three) than takedowns as the Bison fall to 9-5 overall and 8-2 in the EIWA. "Bucknell always wrestles hard. They wrestle three periods. We knew that coming in," Lehigh head coach Pat Santoro said. "My biggest concern was having two of the last three weekends off, not really by design, but just the way things fell. Tonight was similar to the Army match. Once we got those first few out of the way, the jitters we're gone and we went out and wrestled pretty well." Junior Brandon Paetzell started the dual with a 9-4 win over Brandon Seidman at 125. Paetzell scored a pair of first period takedowns to lead 4-1 but after giving up a second period takedown, needed a third period score to secure the victory. Bucknell tied things at 133 as Darren Miller beat junior Nick Farro 6-4. Farro scored the first two takedowns but gave up a reversal late in the first period. A third period takedown and ride out by Miller broke a 4-4 tie. A 10-5 decision by sophomore Dan Moran over David Campbell at 141 sparked a three match Lehigh winning streak. Moran racked up four takedowns in his victory. Sophomore Jimmy Hoffman followed with a 10-1 major decision over Matthew Kolonia at 149. Leading 3-1 late in the third, Hoffman countered a Kolonia throw attempt for a takedown and four point near fall, which along with riding time advantage helped secure the major. "That was a pretty tight match and that move opened it up," Santoro said. "That got us a bonus point. We'd like to see some more takedowns from Jimmy but he's working his way back. Every week he's getting a little bit better in the room. You can see it." A 9-3 decision from sophomore Josh Humphreys over Jaden Fisher at 157 gave Lehigh a 13-3 lead at intermission. Freshman Brian Meyer had an impressive upset bid against No. 14 Zach Hartman at 165. Meyer scored the bout's only takedown in the first period and led 2-1 into the third period, but Hartman reversed and rode out to rally for a 3-2 decision. Hartman's win would be Bucknell's last of the evening. Senior Jordan Kutler answered with his second straight pin as he cradled Mitch Hartman to his back for the fall at 2:44. "Jordan has picked up a lot of bonus points this year and he needs to continue to do that," Santoro said. "He needs to keep working for multiple takedowns, so when he gets into those big matches late in the year, he can go out and get a couple." Santoro sent senior Chase Gallik out at 184 in place of junior Chris Weiler and Gallik responded with a pin in his first dual appearance of the season. Holding a 1-0 lead in the third, Gallik used an assassin to stick Kyle Inlander at 6:05 for his fourth fall of the season. "I'm so happy for Chase," Santoro said. "I love watching him wrestle. He has been in some 20-19 matches. It's rare to see him in a 0-0 like he was after the first period, but you know what you're getting from Chase. He's going to wrestle the whole time and he can pin you at any time. He did that tonight." Lehigh claimed the last two bouts as junior Jake Jakobsen rode a first period takedown to a 3-0 decision over Drew Phipps at 197 and junior heavyweight Jordan Wood scored 12 points over the final two periods in a 12-0 major decision over Brandon Stokes. The Mountain Hawks will close out the regular season with two duals next week. Lehigh will visit Penn in EIWA action Thursday at 7 p.m. and will host No. 5 Arizona State at Leeman-Turner Arena at Grace Hall Friday at 7 p.m. The Mountain Hawks will recognize their senior class prior to the Arizona State dual. 25. The Cleveland State University wrestling team was given a late scare by host Bloomsburg, but redshirt sophomore John Kelbly came through in the final bout to help the Vikings claim a 23-13 win in Mid-American Conference dual action Friday evening inside Nelson Field House. With CSU holding a 17-13 lead entering the final bout at heavyweight, Kelbly came through for the Vikings. After netting a takedown about two minutes into the opening period, it didn't take long for Kelbly to put his opponent on his back and clinch the win for Cleveland State. With the win, CSU improved to 9-5 on the season. The nine wins for the Vikings are the most for the program in 13 years. Six bouts were decided by two points or fewer Friday, with each team winning three, as late winning takedowns proved to be a theme of the night. True freshman Logan Heil continued his fine rookie campaign by opening the dual with a win at 125 pounds. He secured the only takedown of the bout in the third period to break a tie and held on for a 3-2 win. After CSU lost the 133-pound bout via decision, redshirt senior Evan Cheek had a field day at 141 pounds. He scored four near-fall points on three separate occasions in the first period and held a 14-0 lead after three minutes. He would polish off the technical fall in the second period to give CSU a team score lead it would not relinquish. Bloomsburg claimed a win at 149 pounds over a visibly injured Viking. Redshirt junior Nico O'Dor would defeat an opponent ranked more than 10 spots higher than him at 157 pounds. With the bout deadlocked, 1-1, in the closing stages, O'Dor claimed a takedown with just a second or two remaining to notch a 3-1 victory. Redshirt freshman Riley Smucker used a first-period takedown and a third-period reversal to post a 4-2 win at 165 pounds. Redshirt sophomore Chase Archangelo gave CSU its third win in a row with his victory at 174. He tallied a third-period takedown to break a 2-2 tie and held on for the 4-2 victory. Cleveland State had 3-2 leads in the final seconds at both 184 and 197 pounds, but Bloomsburg notched takedowns in the final moments in both bouts to stay alive. In the 184-pound bout, true freshman DeAndre Nassar nearly pulled off the upset of Bloomsburg's Trevor Allard, the top-ranked wrestler in the MAC at his weight class. The home team entered the final bout with momentum and looking to pull off the upset, but Kelbly ensured the Vikings would leave town winners. After he notched a win in the final bout to guarantee a CSU victory in the Vikings' first MAC dual of the season, he pulled off the feat again in the final MAC match. Cheek posted his team-leading 32nd win Friday while tallying his 18th of the bonus-point variety. Kelbly posted his fifth pin of the season. With its road slate complete, Cleveland State will return home this Sunday, Feb. 16, as it welcomes Michigan State in its regular-season finale.
