A lot of interesting conjecture in this thread about who's competing at which wt classes as well as some injury statuses. As long as we're talking Buckeyes, I can't be the only one who's considered how perfectly AJ Ferrari would slip in at 197? Any chance the Bucks even give him a call? Or is there literally no way in hades?

The big question is which wt would he wrestle?

My topic name was a poor choice. I agree that Michigan had a good season. Instead I should have asked if they're doing a good job developing talent. This season it seemed several of their wrestlers went backwards. But when two transfers make the NCAA finals, it's easy to overlook.

Just curious if any data exists on wrestling dual meet attendance. What is the avg attendance at a D1 dual? Which schools avg more than a thousand per match? Is there a breakdown from school to school of home meet attendance?

Nate Tomasello was 1,3,3,3 with a record of 23-3 over four seasons (I think) of comp. at NCAA's. Fix must badly want to win a title.

Michigan has an excellent post grad training situation and a lot of NIL money to offer. Those are good enticements.

This should be a tight dual. Rutgers matches up well and is home. Bucks coming off an emotional dual at PSU.

This dual had it all. tOSU v UM....The best wrestlers money could buy vs a squad with 6 frosh and a true soph....a rabid crowd....huge swings in momentum.....Mantanona almost pulling a huge upset at 165 which was stifled by an enormous comeback by Hepner...a classic rookie vs stud battle at 174 with Griffith squeaking past Welsh....a monster performance by Ryder "the berserker" Rogotzke which saved the dual for the Bucks...and a hvy match between a highly ranked Davison and Feldman which was decided the outcome. Worth mentioning...Feldman spent last year recovering from a broken neck. Don't forget, Bucks were underdogs at 7 wt classes and it showed early. Only Mendez, Hepner and Geog were favored. Feldman and Rogoztke pulled significant upsets. (Austin Gomez looks ready to win an NCAA title) And the manner in which Bouzakis and D'Emilio got manhandled made it look like Ohio State had no chance. Great dual except for UM ff at 141. Shame on them. Send out Tiny Tim if you have to. National TV. Don't FF.

He had Hofstra as a top ten program in the country. His wrestlers have won World and Olympic Titles. He coached a 4xNCAA champion. He won a team title and several Big Ten titles. It's easy to see what someone is doing wrong when they're doing so much right. Also keep in mind that he's stuck coaching in the Cael Sanderson era. Cael is our current coaching GOAT. If not for Cael.....

Cannon has the frame to move up. D'Emilio and Cannon will be a war if it comes to it. I guess D'Emilio has a covid year?

MP--My guess is Cannon takes over 149 next season.

The Clarion Open gave us a look at a number of phenomenal young talents with Blaze over Forrest...then Ramos...grabbing our attention (understandably). But did anyone notice Brandon Cannon (tOSU 141 true frosh)? Cannon missed half his high school career while battling cancer but he was a phenom early in his career and the time off doesn't seem to have had too much effect. He was a tough out for Mendez in the wrestleoff and he ran through the field en route to the finals yesterday at Clarion where he'd have faced Mendez again. Instead they agreed to no contest. One of the sharper guys on Ohiowrestling.net posted this reminder about Cannon: " Freshman year. Beast of the east champ over a tough field that included one of the top recruits in his class in Marc Anthony McGowan. Then health issues occurred where he could barely walk and lost 20 pounds and nearly didn’t survive. He took off 22 months of wrestling during a crucial time in his development. Senior year wrestles Ironman in a very very deep bracket and had the 13 seed and tough draw. Tech falls Ohio division 2 state champ. Beats number 4 ranked mason convincingly. Beats Bouzakis convincingly. Beats number one Bailey and only loses a one point decesion to kannon Webster. Wrestled four straight top 7 nationally ranked kids. The same Webster who defeated mendes this past offseason. Of course you want to see him prove it at the college level in opens but his body of evidence is that he is a very elite wrestler and probably has more upside than any other recruit bc he didn’t wrestle half his high school career." When I watched him yesterday, he reminded me of, well, Blaze. Doesn't look like much but he has excellent technique and his pace and pressure tends to wear down opponents including the #2 seed whom he defeated rather easily.
