That's saying something considering CMU scored .5!!! Both schools gave coaching job to assistants of downward trending programs. Not sure what they expected. At this point the very best kids are going to Michigan or any other top tier programs. The 2nd tier kids are going to Indiana and Purdue, etc. That makes the 3rd and 4th tier kids are going to MSU and CMU. If the coaches were better some of the kids could turn into something but they don't.

From a team perspective going into the tournament. Top 3 1. Iowa- 7 placers and finishing 4th, with another finalist, Gabe Arnold being the 27th seed taking 7th. Wrestled really well all weekend. 7 of 9 placed and the other 2 wrestlers winning 2 matche each. 2. Stanford- 4 placers and finishing 6th, with a national champ. Provo took 3rd seed 7th, Tyler Knox finished 6th, seeded 15th in one of the toughest brackets we've seen in a while. Valancia 1st and seeded 10th and Posada finishing 6th and seeded 9th. They brought 8 wrestlers and they all pointed. Michigan- 5 placers and finishing 7th. McNeil taking 3rd and seeded 11th, Catrabone placed 7th seeded 15th, 174 Montanona placing 7th seeded 9th, 184 Montanona placing 5th seeded 5th and Ghadiali finishing and placing 3rd. Six of seven wrestlers place for Michigan. Solid Underachievers 1. Cornell- Placing 18th and only 1 placer, with seeds of 2, 3, 2, 6, 11. No other way to put it but a terrible tournament. 2. Iowa St- 10 qualifiers with only 3 placers and taking 8th. Injuries hurt them a ton, Rocky Elam being the 2nd seed and winning 1 match with an apparent torn knee and Frost not entering at conferences, between the two of them cost Iowa St easily 25-35 points, could have had a top 5 finish with them. Only Gaitan step up to place above his seed didn't help. 3. Michigan State- they didn't underachieve for the tournament because they are so bad no would assume they would do anything but be horrible. They are competing with mid and division 2 level teams, should be embarrassing enough for this coaching staff to be done, at least point they are stealing from the university. So underachieving as a program would be a nice way to say where they are at this point. They scored 0 points this year and haven't had an AA in 7 years.

If somebody is a MSU fan (not many out there) but they would dare to dream to be as good as Purdue!

Sparty- the problem is they probably bring in the least amount money in the Big 10, if you hire a real coach, that wouldn't happen.

I think all you can ask for is the commitment to upgrading the facilities. Which it seems to be happening. Currently a very small number is being donated/NIL's to MSU wrestling. That has to be a huge goal of administration and athletic director, along with the new staff they would hire. Metcalf or whoever should have a lot people wanting to get MSU in the mix, as they should be.

With Girls Youth and High School growing so much and they wrestle folkstyle, makes no sense to me.

They need to switch to folkstyle already!

Goodness, how many years did we say that about Minkel! They haven't had an All-American in what 6 years??? They compete against Wisconsin, NW, Ind, Purdue, Maryland, and ILL yet they have had many more AA's in that time. Also don't see any AA's for MSU for the forseeable future.

I'm not ignoring Wisconsin, it's up to the CMU adm to figure out if Reader is the guy. All's I'm saying is Reader should be a good recruiter in Michigan. I've been told, Bennett is not a good coach, period. Please name me one guy that he's made at 174, 184, 197??
