Here’s an idea: give NCAA wrestling a replay officials the ability to do an expedited review process at conference and national tournaments.

Not for every close call, just the ones that are clear and obvious mistakes. Think the NFL system. If you have to replay and debate it, the original call stands unless coaches challenge. The booth only steps in when they spot a clear and obvious missed call.

Keep it fast and simple. A booth official watches the action and buzzes down if they see something. If they do, the review wraps up in 30 seconds max. Reviewable calls would be limited to penalties, escapes, takedown control, nearfall criteria, and out-of-bounds situations.

Scrambles and judgment calls stay with the mat official, period. Why only conference and nationals? Because that’s where the infrastructure already exists and the stakes actually justify it. You would need to iron out the system for when to stop the action, adding time back if necessary and all that. But I think it could work. Thoughts?

If we are talking about the process itself, there does seem to be a need to speed up the reviews.

How would the Barr singlet pull in the quarters be called?  It seems obvious but watching it live didn't notice it.

Whatever they do, needs to be focused on consistency across all refs, especially with how stalling and reaction time are called.

Get rid of 'em

Get rid of 'em. Cardio is a core skill of our sport. Video review eliminates the need for elite cardio.
