Obviously trying recreate Cael.  First they tried to get a Mormon from Utah (BYU coach) and then went with the existing ISU coach.      Not the worst strategy.

Actually, I think PSU hiring away ISU's coach could be a very good move.  Campbell had a  72-55 record at ISU, with only 1 losing record after 10 years. Yeah, not the greatest record, but we're talking about ISU (ISU traditionally has a crap/mediocre team). Unlike Franklin, the guy PSU fired, Campbell actually beats top 10 teams from time to time.

We shall see. Not a sexy hire, but hopefully a solid one. Regardless of who the coach was gonna be, hope they’re opening up the check books…with transfers and a lost recruiting class, they’re gonna need maybe upwards of 60 guys out of the portal. And high end ones if they plan to compete and not be in a 2-3 yr rebuild. Time to make it rain bags of cash!!

That's how Texas Tech bought their team this year, and how Ohio State bought an NCAA title last year.  Pretty disgusting, right? Can't blame them for doing it better than other schools either, but surely there's a better way to handle this whole NIL debacle.

Texas really screwed up. Richest school in the country with thousands of millionaire alumni just itching to pay kids NIL bucks. They could buy the title every year if they played their cards right.

I’m too lazy to look it up but swear I read recently their NIL/Sports collective came up with like $1B to put towards NIL going forward. I also recall an article where I think they’re paying Bowman - the swim coach, coached Phelps - like D1 football coach money…for swimming!

You dig into all these Texas schools - UT, A&M, Texas Tech now with their billionaire sugar daddy, SMU who said we don’t need ACC TV money, just let us in the conference our boosters got this covered…it’s scary.
 

If just having money to spend was all it took, no one outside Texas would win anything other than Wrestling and Hockey. But thankfully UT and A&M are prime examples of its more HOW you spend the money. God help us if they ever figure it out…

Mike Gundy totally screwed over OSU. His star players went to him and wanted to talk about NIL and how much other players of comparative skills were getting. Gundy, total asshole that he is, got snotty with them and said IF he was willing to discuss NIL with them it could wait until after the season. Wrong answer at any time, let alone an era when there's a transfer portal and kids aren't nailed in place at the coach's whim like the old days. He lost the locker room immediately after that conversation. What's funny is that for most of Gundy's time at OSU that they had Boone Pickens as their sugardaddy, and they spent lavishly on the stadium, coach's salaries, and other things (and I have no doubt whatsoever illegally paid players under the table), but when paying players became the NORM, Gundy couldn't handle it. What a jackass that dude was.

Actually I'd love to have him as Qb at OU. Manning is heaps better than John Mateer. Manning has thrown for 24 TDs and 7 picks, and 2,900 yards.  The problem with Manning is people had unrealistic expectations for him. He's good, but was still relatively inexperienced at the beginning of the year. The kid can literally make all the throws, and he's got surprisingly good legs when he takes off. He's gotten a bad rap.
