Anyone in Here Enjoy Stuffed Artichokes?

Was just wondering after polishing off my 2nd home made globe sized artichoke stuffed to the gills.  I know, what’s the relevance. There is none.

Are they even edible? they seem too fibrous...

I enjoy artichokes absolutely.  All types.  Marinated, the ones you have to bite the food off the leaf, and then wonder how to put it down in a non-disgusting way, and jerusalem artichokes which are not technically artichokes and make me somewhat gassy

Very much so once cooked properly. Some enjoy them baked while others enjoy them steamed. I find steaming really breaks down the stems making it easier to remove the flesh by scraping each leaf with your upper front teeth. I stuff them with bread crumbs mixed with garlic, onion, salt, pepper and a sprinkle of Locatelli cheese then drizzle Olive oil ( the good stuff) and fresh squeezed lemon juice. Steamed for about 20-30 minutes depending on the size and quantity. One large one made this way is like a meal!

Good for you flying. I’ve never heard of Jerusalem chokes. Are they similar to regular artichokes?

yeah but you have to stuff it with bread and cheese!

I’ll be damned - I just looked it up, there certain is a mascot called “fighting artichokes in Scottsdale AZ!!!!  Learn something every day!

Some prefer cooking as is but our Italian family always stuffed them.

I even went there last year and would have gladly bought a t-shirt had I known...

Those of you in Cali can get these cheap year round. I believe the state is the largest producer in the country just like PA puts out the largest production of mushrooms, another one of my favorites.

they are nothing like them actually.  I'm not sure how they got that name.  they are like denser potatoes and are typically best roasted.  just don't eat them on a first date lol

I grew up in PA area and hated mushrooms as a kid.  now I love them and feel like a fool for not taking advantage and I live far away haha

Yeah it came about as a protest. The college wanted to start an athletic program back in the 70's I think, and most of the students didn't want it because it would take money from other things and increase tuition. But the college did it anyway and left the mascot and colors up to the student body. So the students picked the artichoke and pink and green as the mascot and colors. The college tried to change it but enough people liked it so they kept "Artie" the Artichoke.

I've never eaten artichoke, but I remember a story from a newspaper years ago that might be related. 

A convict wanted to kill the judge that put him away and tried to find a hit man. Eventually he found a hitman named Artie who loved killing so much that he agreed to kill the judge for a dollar. That night the hitman broke into the judge's house and strangled him to death, but the struggle awakened the maid, so he had to strangle her too for being a witness. As he was leaving the judge's wife walked out of the downstairs bathroom and saw him, so he strangled her too.  Unfortunately for him a neighbor saw him breaking in and he was soon captured by the police. The next day the newspaper headline stated "Artie Chokes three for a dollar".

Yes Boring, I kinda took on that role at an early age helping my Mom in the kitchen. However a true cook can cook across many types of tastes but mine is strictly Italian. That’s my only experience. How about you, does cooking interest you?

They eliminated football a while ago. But they had a rivalry with another nearby college where much worse things happened and were said between them. One year the opposing coaches got into a fist fight after the game.

Yeah, I know a little about cooking.  My mom was a great cook, and I was always a hungry kid hanging over her shoulder when she cooked, just so I'd be the first guy to fill his plate, hehe. I watched Mom for years and learned how to cook a lot of stuff, but mostly I just cook simple stuff like soups, stews, pan fried steaks and such.

Good for you boring! We definitely share this experience - how fortunate both of us were to spend such quality time with the one who brought us into this world!
