Nomad posted a very interesting chart on X.

I believe this does matter.  Ridiculous how many are from 2018 and 2019.  This is a college sport.  Not a retirement plan.

Congrats to Luke — balled out as a true freshman.  Seems like a really down year for true freshman … no?  Wonder why?  Oh, maybe because there are a ton of 2/3 yr grad school people 24 and 25 year olds that are wrestling.

And congrats to those that made it from 2023, 2022, and 2021.

Can’t wait for this Covid year crap to be behind us.

Agree. Having wrestled D1 in the 90's, I can't imagine going more than 5 yrs of D1 wrestling. Especially the way the sport was different then, particularly the weight cut and match counts..there should not be a 6-7 yr age gap in collegiate wrestling..

That's 26/80 AAs this year.

I don't know about any others, but Byrd could come back next year if he pursues a med shirt for last year. So this may not be his actual Covid year. I don't ever apply those until they use it though because not everyone does it.

I never understood why COVID resulted in one class getting only three years of post-season eligibility and four classes (or five?) getting five years of post-season eligibility. Why didn't they just give everybody four years?

Fantastic chart and just points out the absurdity of the extra COVID year nonsense. Unlike most sports wrestling is zero sum - it's not like football where you can start your career playing 10 snaps per game or basketball where you can play 15 minutes per game. In wrestling you are either in or out and how many underclassmen are wondering why the starter in their weight class is a 25-year-old at his 3rd school working on his 2nd Masters degree.

Hardy went on a two year church mission so he didn't wrestle for two years ......Gable went on a two year professional sports mission.

Hardy went on a two year church mission, then had a free year in 2021, and redshirted in 2022.. He graduated in 2018 and his RSFR year was 2022-2023..
