The conference just finalized settlement with Clemson and FSU yesterday. How will this impact wrestling?

Under the terms of the settlement, 60% of the ACC's media revenue pot will be weighted and distributed to the teams with the highest tv viewerships for football and basketball. Football accounts for about 75% of the ACC's media revenue so the calculation will be mostly based on football ratings. The remaining 40% of the ACC's revenues will be shared under its normal sharing model.

My feeling is that it's not exactly a great deal for the ACC wrestling schools. Duke, UNC, NC State, Pitt, Stanford, UVA, and VT aren't exactly the powerhouse football programs that dominate the league and draws huge audiences, so their athletic departments will likely see smaller revenues going forward.

Especially worrisome is Stanford. They joined the ACC under a deal that pays out only 30% of media revenues for the first 7 years, then 70% and 75% in the 8th and 9th year, then their full 100% share beginning in 2034. To receive even less than that is cause for concern. To throw another wrench in the works, Stanford's AD is also on his way out. It does not feel great for wrestling.

The other part of the settlement reduces the Grant of Rights penalty fees for leaving the ACC. Under the current GOR, schools would pay up to $700M to leave the conference. Starting next year, the fee will be $165M, declining annually to $75M over the next 5 years. So this sort of opens the door for more exits and further realignment.

Why would Stanford’s AD being on the way out be a bad thing?  Isn’t he the one that tried to cut wrestling and the other sports?

Also UNC has Bill Belichick now, I imagine they’ll draw some good audiences.

I am surprised football accounts for that much more revenue than basketball though.
