This is a follow up to the question about why wrestlers continue to commit to Penn State despite likely not being a starter for all four of their years of eligibility. During the Cael era, how many wrestlers have been a starter for either 3 or 4 years and graduated without winning a title? The only wrestlers I could think of that might fit the criteria I'll list below. Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong/add names I missed.

Dylan Alton

Andrew Alton

Morgan McIntosh

Jordan Conaway?

Jimmy Gulibon?

Jimmy Lawson?

I think Morgan McIntosh is the only 3x+ AA to not win a national championship under Cael. It's pretty crazy that if you can be a starter for three years at PSU the odds are higher that you'll be a national champion than not. Hard to argue against someone willing to be a backup for a year or two of eligibility if they think they're more likely to meet their goal of being a national champion in their final two years.

Bartlett TBD

Brady Berge (3 years)

Shakur Rasheed was a 3 year starter but only had 2 tournaments due to covid cancelling 2020

Meanwhile at Oklahoma State you have

Eddie Klimara, Jon Morrison, Anthony Collica, Kyle Crutchmer, Jamal Parks, Nolan Boyd, Austen Marsden, Joe Smith, Chandler Rogers, Preston Weigel, Nick Piccinnini, Kaid Brock, Derek White, Boo Lewallen, Tristan Moran, Keegan Moore, Daton Fix, Kaden Gfeller, Wyatt Sheets, Dakota Geer, Travis Wittlake, Carter Young (active), Luke Surber (active), Dustin Plott (active)

That's 24. And that's just from 2014 on.

Iowa has..

Thomas Gilman, Nick Moore, Mike Evans, Sammy Brooks, Nate Burak, Bobby Telford, Brandon Sorenson, Sam Stoll, Michael Kemerer, Joey Gunther, Cash Wilcke, Alex Marinelli, Austin DeSanto, Max Murin, Kaleb Young, Jacob Warner, Abe Assad, Tony Cassioppi, Ethen Lofthouse

That's 19 since 2014.

I would like a fan of a team not listed here to rank the top ten listed wrestlers by how much internet ink they received for their title pursuits.

I'd place Fix #1 followed close behind by maybe Marinelli and Kemerer.

I feel like Gilman would be in the conversation for getting upset by Moisey, and then again by Cruz.

You have to put Kemmerer a notch above Marinelli. Marinelli only went R12 one year, and I think the rest were 6-6-6-5. I think Kemmerer placed higher than 5th every year except his last.

The Alton boys were both lungers and each got worse the longer they wrestled, which was weird. I think both did their best their FR years, then they declined. McIntosh was a champ level guy who just happened to never win. I think he lost to J-den Cox? Those other guys were "meh".

I think you missed the point of the thread. The point is that if you can make the starting line-up for three years at PSU, you're more likely to win a national title than not. That's why guys will risk not being the starter to wrestle at PSU.
