Iran will miss the Yarigin cup due to visa issues.  This surprises me since Russia is a big ally of the IRI

Russia is supposedly an  ally of IRI. The relationship of IRI with Russia and China has been tilted towards them  exploiting IRI due to the isolation of the Islamic regime . Russia for example exploited IRI by getting them to provide drones etc for their war in Ukraine and China by getting a cheap supply of oil. That’s also to their benefit if Iran is kept isolated and dependent on them. They will do limited things to prop up the regime up to a point but will not go out of their way to support them which also further highlights how bad the IRI is for Iran as a country and it’s people.

This time Russia decided not to bother with the pretence by not giving visas to Iranian wrestlers.. they are playing it safe I guess given the recent murderous acts of the regime- Russians are getting enough bad publicity so don’t want to get more via being associated with IRI anymore than they need to.

I was hoping the visas would be appropriated and the team could travel, possibly to safety. Is there a chance the governments are doing this visa stoppage, to prevent a defection, fearing a public showing of defiance by these exemplary courageous men who have teammates in peril?

I guess part of the problem may be genuine visa administration problems as internet was turned off in Iran for a few days but my personal feeling is that it’s something the UWW also supported as Dabir apparently has been sanctioned for 2 years by UWW if some of the reports I have seen are correct.

in terms of the safety I think only a handful of top wrestlers would have gone to the tournaments and these guys are already under immense pressure so they would need to toe the line or there would be consequences. In fact I gather Dabir had told them if you don’t want what happened to Nejati to happen to you then you must not say anything against the government and in support of the people. It’s the lower tier athletes that are at high risk of government brutality really. The top echelon have been pretty much coerced to keep quiet already . Although there may also be the odd genuine regime supporters amongst them- I think Farokhi is one of them which is a shame as I did like his style and panache..

You make a good point about possibility of defection- I think the regime has pretty much worked their countermeasures- firstly the athletes have families in Iran and they would have been told to watch what they do as they would then go after the family and loved ones. Also they are accompanied by minders so they may not find it that easy to find the opportunity and lastly  but probably not least I suspect they may not be sure how to manage a defection process as most of them not great with English but on the opposite side  they are bright capable and experienced so may be that would not be an issue- I think safety of family left behind would be enough not to contemplate anything like defection though.

this sounds like a plausible explanation. the regime could even backchannel a request for the visa denials so they can wash their hands of the decision.

A true horror, those that have blamed the public for lack of courage, and complicity, are truly mistaken.  I'm glad our forefathers have allowed the public to arm themselves before such control and use of technology can create such a disadvantage. feeling quite helpless but with far less pain than all of you must feel.

in reality, the rioters armed by Israel attacked dozens of ambulances and fire trucks, and burned paramedics alive

I thought you had a second story to tell; but now I see you are just arrogant against you're brothers; that see change and a global non-isolated Iran.

From what I can deduce from your largely incoherent sentence, you do not appear to be refuting anything I wrote. That says it all.

What would happen in the US if these armed terrorists attacked police stations and ambulances? I am curious.

I do not see police or ambulances in this video nor can tell who is protesting or who is shooting who. I heard information that those protesting in crowds were being sniper fired on by the "police'.  And then injured going to hospitals are turned away by authorities or finished off, and doctors helping are arrested. I am curious.  I have heard of dead unarmed wrestlers, I am curious.

This guy keeps spouting /rehashing  regime propaganda- Mohammad Marandi is a well known regime spoke person- a “professor” in Tehran university- American studies.

often IRI apologists fall into 2 camps- paid or incentivised professionals ( a notorious group called NIAC is an example) or just folks with muddled up thinking who are raised in the west often can not speak Persian and through some psychological complex they become apologists for the regime. I think probably this fellow falls into the latter category.

That video was unrelated to my previous post. I find it funny you approach a video clearly showing armed rioters patrolling the streets with absolute scepticism but treat unverified claims of killed wrestlers with total certainty.

What do you think this video shows? Can you make an informed guess? What do you think would happen if this happened in the US? You didn't answer.

I guess if you can't discuss substance or contest the evidence the next best thing is to go for personal attacks against the source. Yawn. Arash.

I am not engaging in direct discussion with you as I find you and what you stand for repulsive.
