There will be a trial between Mobin Azimi and Babaloo for the 97kg spot at Asian champs. I guess Azimi is a 97 now. They are sending a U23 team to Asian champs this year.

At 70 it seems Sina Khalili will go straight to Asian champs, they didn't even invite Elahi to the national camp!

I would be pretty angry if I was Elahi, Khalili won one match in Croatia, didn't have to wrestle his semi final because James Green got injured, and got teched in the final. Elahi lost to the Azeri who teched Khalili by a closer margin. I think Khalili has a brighter future but this seems unfair to me. Although of course favouritism is not new in Iranian wrestling.

Azarpira is not the rep for Asian champs?

Azarpira got injured in the olympics when Tazudinov laced him. He will come back later in the year. I don't think he would be going even if he was ready. While he is under 23, it seems they want to send a B/inexperienced team to this tournament.

I think the team to asian champs will be

57 - valizadeh

61 - Javan

65- ebrahimzadeh

70 - khalili

74 - rezai

79 - yousefi

86 - rahmani

92 - firouzpour

97 - trial winner

125 - masoumi

I think Yousefi and Rezai can both be very good. Rezai has been relatively competitive with Messenbrink and Shaprio and beat Lockett all 3 of which I see being contenders for the US in 2028. Yousefi's win over gamerkelidze was very impressive.

That's a really stupid decision imo. 70kg should be a wrestle off between Elahi and Khalili, Elahi at least deserves a chance given he won Iran nationals and neither of them looked particularly impressive in Zagreb. In fact I would argue Karampour should also be given a chance to compete as well I'm pretty sure he ended up winning U23 worlds last year considering the other two didn't win gold. For 97kg I would like to see Hajiloueian wrestle between Azimi and Babaloo as well. I don't know how Azimi is going to look wrestle well at 97kg when he looked lifeless at 92kg... Dorostkar proving again he has no idea what he is doing and that Reza Yazdani should take over as HC.

Karampour got bronze at junior worlds. He didn't go to u23 worlds. Khalili was meant to go to u23 worlds but ended up going to seniors instead when yazdani got injured. Khoramdel went at 70 to u23 and came 5th.

Ahh I think I mixed him up with Yousefi. Regardless I think we should see a wrestle off between Khalili and Elahi for the spot imo. Also the list for Muhamet Malo came out and the team we have sent for both free and greco looks good most of the big names are there (Amouzad, Ghasempour, Zare, Esmaeili, Ali Geraei and Mirzazadeh).

Tehran wins the team title in freestyle for cadets.

Mazandaran  officially only had 1 champ, though I think Gilan province won a few weights with guys from Mazandaran.

At 71kg the cadet eligible Ariobarzan Mohammadi,   who teched and pinned his way through junior nationals at 70kg like 2 weeks ago , lost here in the semi finals to the eventual winner from Mazandaran representing Gilan. I thought that was interesting/funny. The level at cadets was higher than the level in juniors for 70/71kg. Or maybe Ariobarzan was just tired, who knows.

I agree with you about the unfairness of the decision

i do think Khalil has great potential, but should not be given the spot automatically

Yes. He must contact his lawyers and immediately sue the Iranian wrestling federation.

If Khalili has been given the spot why should he want to sue anyone?🤔 Perhaps it will be for over burdening him with expectations….

Elahi must sue

Saw a video of Yaz doing some proprioceptive training with his new big boy body. Really excited to see how the 97kg transition goes. Is the idea that he will have less stress on his body or he just cant make 86kg anymore?

follow up question what are the thoughts about Khorramdel he nearly teched the guy from Japan who teched one of the United States golden boys at u20's I thought he looked impressive but maybe just extremely physical for the age level which does not always translate.

I think he will start at 92 and move to 97 in time for the Olympics

I think the big question is “ can he recover from two major shoulder surgeries”

Most have not

Not dehydrating himself should help mitigate future injuries and I think his pace will be an issue for guys at heavier weights it's just a matter of if he can move guys around like he did at 86.

Will Ghasenmpour go down to 86 for worlds or will he attempt to retain his spot at 92?

He has endless cardio but is a very bad starter is often behind big a minute into the match. He has won cadet and junior gold now so he has at least started his career well. Who knows if he can translate that into seniors.

Unknown as of this point. He is entered for next week's Albania ranking tournament at 92kg. This is really 94kg with the weight allowance. He could have wrestled 88 if he wanted. If he is at 92 it is possible we have Yazdani, Firouzpour and Ghasempour all at 92. All 3 of these guys could win the weight at worlds.

If I had to guess I would say Ghasempour will go to 86, but nothing is confirmed.

Has ghasempour made 86kg without 2kg since trials in 21'? he looked absolutely enormous at world and seemed like his tank was a bit of an issue maybe it was more mental than physical though. He is the best guy in the world at 86kg imo if he can make it and feel good perhaps Zahid has something to say but I doubt it.

I've heard that Ghasempour will be competing at 86kg for worlds as he has been called up to the camp as an 86kg rep but he won't be cutting a significant amount of weight until the worlds so he wrestles at 92kg in the ranking tournaments. I really want him to compete at 86kg and Firzoupour at 92kg as they would be clear favourites for gold. I don't think Ramazanov or Valencia are capable of beating him, he is a tier above them. The question is moreso can he even make 86kg or will be weight cut be too much like Azarpira going down to 92kg.
