I hope Pyles if full of shit and is wrong about DT.

Ben Askren hopefully is right.

DT career is done if he gets hired, like John in 91-92

What I found odd about what Pyles said is that DT reached out to Oklahoma State about the job. Why would you throw your hat in the ring if you weren't sold on the job?

What? You throw it in because you are curious and if the details don't work out you remove the hat.

If DT retired right now from competing he'll have achieved about as much as he could've ever hoped anyway. It's time for him to move on to coaching, and if OSU is offering him a boatload of money it might be the best thing he can do. On the other hand he'll have to move to Oklahoma, which will probably be a culture shock for him.

I feel really bad for Coleman Scott if the DT stuff is actually going down and not just chatter. He gave up a good head coaching job at a program he practically built to be the coach in waiting at OSU.

I have no inside knowledge, but I'm guessing Smith wants Scott to be the coach. Scott was his wrestler, after all. The OkSt AD, however, is likely more open to the Cael coaching tree. But whatever happens, Scott and DT will both be fine.

True. Still it rankles me that OSU would induce Scott to give up a good job as HC at UNC with promises that he'll be the next guy after Smith retires, and then pull this. Classless. Plus there is the  uncertainty of whether or not Taylor can actually be a head coach with everything that entails. He's certainly got the wrestling chops, but does he know how to schmooze the big benefactors? Will he have pipelines to local talent since he's an Ohio boy, and would he even need local talent pipelines since he's plugged in already in better wrestling states (Ohio and Pennsylvania)?

Well whatever happens, it'll be interesting following the narrative.

People who pursue careers get disappointed and experience setbacks all the time. It really sucks but it's just the way it is. Of course, it's far from clear at this point who OkSt will pick. And even if they extend an offer to DT there's no guarantee he'd accept. He may prefer his life in PA.

I don't think anyone knows for certain if they promised him the job. He might have seen the writing on the wall with J Smith and put himself in the best position to win the job. Like they said on FRL, Coleman was basically a for sure hire at OkSt because of where he positioned himself, but if he didn't move to OkSt, would he be the #1 candidate? Not sure he would be. Very smart strategic move from Coleman regardless of if they promised him anything.

Also, Coleman has gotta be salty either way. If DT passes on this, he's the third choice and wins by default. Who's to say he won't be on the chopping block in the future. Not sure how I'd feel about that if I were him.

This is really wild... makes the next several years much more exciting in the college landscape....

I get the feeling Taylor told them no maybe a time or two and they came at him with a huge bag of money and closed him. Has to be around a mill a year? I mean Brands if getting $700k+, they would definitely pay more than hat to get someone like Taylor

His contract through 2029 I believe continues to step up each year in the 675-775k range from my understanding

I believe he signed a deal for $550k in 2022 that increases $50k a year until 2029.
