I wouldn’t be opposed to RAF going to a 15-point tech fall... or first to 20 points… something like that… or go back to letting the guy in the lead decide if he wants the match to end at the tech… wouldn’t mind seeing Arman put up 100 on Dannis.

Burns lands on his hip and it is was a painfully clear 2... not sure if they refs ended up giving the 2 or 4 and if the YOLO brick was what pushed the score to a tech, but, it was a total roll eyes moment listening to them go on and on about a 4 on the mic...

The refs should get on the mic before/after reviews like NFL referees and explain to the live crowd what's being challenged and why the scoring was either upheld or overturned

off the top of my head, i can not think of anyone teched at RAF that i would want to watch wrestle for another minute...

i am sure there is an outlier out there, but, the point stands...

It’d help get some of the trans matches into the second period. I don’t know how long new fans will be willing to stick around if all the matches end in the first. The 30 second break also allows for more commentary, which is just an added bonus… and if for no other reason, it shows the world these MMA fighters who can go for 15-25 minutes in the octagon get absolutely gassed after two minutes on the mat. Not to suggest going down any terrible ball bag grabbing rabbit hole, but the best two out of three period era rule would work well for RAF crossover matches.

An evenly matched crossover bout like Tarzann-Mugzy from last night is more appealing to me than watching RAF pay Bo Bassett a small fortune to tech someone in under a minute.

The problem is that RAF signs most of the wrestlers to 3-5 match contracts. So if they end up sucking in their first match, RAF either has to buy out their contract, or keep using them in matches where they're destined to lose (Luke Rockhold, I'm looking at you)

going from memory, wasn't a period over if 5pts were scored?

i don't hate the idea in concept...

Nobody knows… 6 point tech or a five pointer or two three pointers… something like that.

The Mugzy-Tarzan match got match of the night, and it truly was… Tarzan performed much better than expected. Not sure how long Larry Wheels is laid up, but I hope that match happens.

Larry has never done contact sports in his life, so Tarzann in theory would smoke him

Tarzann's around 205, so sticking him against someone like Joaquin Buckley would make sense - big name MMA guy on a losing streak

RAF is talking about 3 shows/month beginning next year - if they end up doing a "B-Show" like UFC Fight Night where they can let the more inexperienced guys get matches, that would help to build up new stars instead of making everything so sink or swim like it is right now

the gimmick matches are obviously hit and miss...

i had no interest at all in this mugzy/tarzan match...

i had no clue who tarzan is and still really do not...

but, i was 100% entertained by the match...

who knew this tarzan cat knew enough to make it interesting?

the problem arises when everyone knows the opponent can not wrestle at all...

we knew Belal can not wrestle, so, the colby match was awful...

whereas Belal and Askren felt totally appropriate...

there has not been one Danis match that was not an obvious MMA nerd hustle...

i am not offended by these match ups no matter how much they actually pain me to watch... wrestling needs to use these MMA nerds right now to provide a space for actual real wrestling in this environment...

if RAF is actually planning on a "lower tier" event structure to provide a space for opponents for the few MMA guys who can actually wrestle a bit like Arman and Khamzat that feels great...

can that business model actually prove profitable for RAF or at least not deterimental?

who knows...

i did not enjoy the contenders show at all as a stand alone product, but, i am not sure it matters if someone like me enjoyed it or not...

i feel like they got the right guy from that small pool, but, then he was immediately ruined by Alvan...

i have no idea where either fit into RAF after that match...

it would be very interesting to get a real sense of who RAF had to pick from to form the end result for that contenders show...

i just find it hard to believe RAF can support adding a lower tier monthly show and a contenders show...

whatever...

i am just bored and rambling at this point waiting for the saturday recap to drop of the sprint race from Austria that had me actually yell at the screen during the race...

100% - at Middleweight they should have booked Moody against someone like Mugzy or a washed MMA guy like Tony Ferguson

Imagine Moody walking out of the arena last night with the Middleweight Crossover Title instead of getting embarrassed by a current World Team member. It was a missed opportunity.

I'm assuming the lower-tier monthly show would be on free TV somewhere. Bischoff has always talked about a weekly show, but even I don't think that's sustainable.

Bronstein said in the article about RAF Times Square that they want to do three shows/month starting next year - two domestic and one international.

So each month a big domestic show on Fox Nation, a big international show on Fox Nation, and then RAF Fight Night on free TV somewhere.

The Vegas venue next month is interesting since Bischoff said a while back that a RAF weekly show would likely be in a casino. So imagine if RAF turns Fontainebleau Las Vegas into their own version of the UFC Apex.

Tonight could be a huge opportunity for RAF to gain some viewers with Arman fighting… hopefully, we hear some cross-promotion from Rogan and DC.

… oh, and I guess Gable Dan is in the card tonight, as well.

One thing RAF doesn’t get enough credit for is they keep the matches rolling… watching UFC, you can mow your lawn and wash your truck between fights.
