As a new poster, but not to the sport I'd like to hear serious opinions about this.

The wave of David T and okie st. Can't be denied despite the ever present gap between Penn St. and the rest of college wrestling.

But it has me thinking, is David Taylor and the Oklahoma st situation the changing of (a very future) guard when eventually cael and co. Retire/split up/stay too long?  Or is this the necessary blueprint colleges will start taking (hiring a young hungry decorated guy with a following) seeing the immediate recruiting and wrestling impact he has had. Essentially redispursing high end recruits across the board and again not knowing every year who is going to be wrestling for second. (Please wrestling gods!)

It's a silly post I get it, and probably discussed to the point of annoyance.  But it has been every year since I can remember one team is going to "catch them" because XYZ and the second place team is still behind by 40 plus pts minimum. How long and which path does it take to unseat them consistently as a dynasty?

No, perhaps I worded it incorrectly I apologise.   My plea is to not have to talk about whose fighting for second every year because the talent gets dispersed to the point where we're back to seriously discussing who will be team champ and not have to come up with doomsday scenario to get penn st. to lose.

Who are those people that are comparable to Dave and Co.

Certainly not many.  I would say the like of Dake, burroughs,  spencer lee could have a similar impact at the right school. There's guys like Metcalf also waiting in the background to resurge a program. But to your point there's not much to choose from.

I wouldn't disagree but those named have a lot of work to put in. And quite a few years of doing it to reach Dave and Co.

Not to mention the need for a big donor.

I don’t think I have heard anyone say a particular team was gonna catch Penn State in the last three years if anything we have to listen to how dominant they’re gonna be and our throughout the season, but I have never heard anybody say Penn State was gonna lose or someone was going to catch them during a season over the past three years, hasn’t happened

I wish I was better at talking.  And your absolutely correct. That's essentially my point, what is it going to take for it to be back to a serious convo about the team title race.  Although I must say there's usually at least 1 knuckle head that perks up if there's a penn st injury or rumblings start where "if these other 4 Penn State guys get hurt too" ect.

This whole thread is beating up a strawman.  There were exactly zero people last year saying PSU will lose because...

I get it I didn't think I was going to be on trial.  But it only leads more into what I'm asking.   Which path gets us back to having a serious conversation about it again?

And in my defence jimmy c alone does some type of doomsday scenario on a yearly basis lol.

this whole thing is a strawman. No one has seriously backed a team to beat em sense Iowa beat em.

well maybe the title of your topic should make sense in relation to what you want to talk about next time.

I get it. There just isn't enough to make discussion out of it... DT is as close as anyone will be for YEARS...

Don't take this as being argumentative, because I agree, the title was just me being a noob so I get the focus.  I do however  recall the hype Ohio State had after the first half of the season leading up to their dual.  Obviously injuries happened and no one EXPECTED them to win. If the community gets that excited over a longahot (still top 5 btw) then we clearly, in my opinion, need diversity of assets.

So, does DT simply replace them as a dynasty over time, or do more schools go get them guys I mentioned above in hopes to replicate the DT situation which will hopefully bring back a real discussion for whose going to win it?

That makes a lot of sense. Moving forward I'll clean it up and make it easier for people to chime in. Thank you sir

The only one present that has a chance.  And it's gonna take years and years...

Sadly I think your spot on. That would just lead to more of who is fighting for second, which I was hoping to avoid lol. Thanks for participating

Never heard of it... Is there an excessively long thread that breaks down the pros and cons of such an exclusive serious club?
