  1. Burroughs has always felt like a guy who was blessed with great talent, a highly competitive mind, but with too much hubris. I disliked his gold shoes way back. I am a PSU fan and I watched live what happened in Rec Hall and I was very disappointed in the PSU fans. But Burroughs must take some responsibility for his chippiness with Mesenbrink in front of a home crowd. In truth, I was surprised Burroughs didn't just shrug it off like some wrestlers would.
  2. A champion in wrestling needs two things, a great head and a strong body. Gable had them both when he won gold, but he has since lost his head. I find it very sad.
  3. I wish UWW would standardize how the clocks count. I don't care whether it is up or down, just settle on one.

  4. The distribution for the NCAA weights makes sense: 125 - 133 (8 pounds), 133 - 141 (8 pounds), 141 - 149 (8 pounds), 149 - 157 (8 pounds), 157 - 165 (8 pounds), 165 - 174 (9 pounds), 174 - 184 (10 pounds), 184 - 197 (13 pounds). The heavier weights have greater weight spans. For free, I would suggest: 60, 63, 68, 75, 84, 94, 104, 130 based on larger spans at higher weights.
  5. I was just trying to have a discussion. No agenda other than I am disappointed in Brook's performance.
  6. Both styles have good rules and bad rules. In freestyle, I don't like that a leglace in the first five seconds of a match can end it in ten seconds. I don't like the fact in freestyle that if you hold a man on his back for 30 seconds, you still only get two points. And I don't like the shot clock at the senior level - just too arbitrary. In folk I dislike the stall calls on the edge when someone is perceived to be backing out. I don't like grabbing an ankle and doing nothing until the ref calls a stalemate. I also don't like the fact that on the college level folk does not allow major throws. Both styles' rule sets could be improved.
  7. Not really. You can explain to a novice that if a player passes home plate that is a run (or a point). That's pretty simple.
  8. I still say that if Taylor had gotten past whomever at the trials, there was no one in the field who had a legitimate chance besides Yazdani and he got hurt. Brooks made a rookie mistake by not wrestling the last six seconds.
  9. "Warn"? It's just a point of discussion.
  10. What I was trying to say in this post is if Brooks had not been there and Taylor went instead, two things would have happened: 1. The atmosphere would have gotten him to the right level of motivation. I am sure Dake would have helped. 2. We would not have seen a great wrestler (Brooks) stop wrestling with six seconds.
  11. ...or retiring Russian wrestlers who want to work with the RTCs. This is no different than European basketball teams hiring American coachs some years ago to kick off their programs. I think we could learn great new techniques from Russians.
  12. I think he is killing it! Very informative without over-talking. Good for him.
  13. Everything goes in cycles. Because of the issues with Russia, the scattering of their wrestlers to other countries has diminished them as I don't believe they have coaches in their new countries at the quality of Russian coaches. Also, Japan used to be lights out in wrestling in the sixties and seventies. They must have very good, young, progressive coaches. The are fit and from what I have seen, very good technique. Just ask Kyle Dake.
  14. I've been watching the swimming waiting for August 5 for the wrestling to start. And one thing that has always bothered me is how swimmers can win multiple medals, but sports like wrestling only have one winner. So my proposal is as follows: 1. Wrestling medals are awarded for the best double leg, the best leg-lace, the best gut-wrench, the best feet-to-back, the best pin, etc. 2. The match tournament would be best overall. Thoughts?
  15. If we accept the fact that wrestling is a nitch sport and focus the growth within that construct, we will be just fine. Heck Peacock broadcasted the olympic trials. We should be happy about all the positive news in college wrestling. Also, women HS wrestling is the fastest growing HS sport. The only change I would make to attract more viewers is simplify the freestyle rules. Right now, the rules are understood by a very small minority. Think about if a swimming race depended on a video replay of the swimmer's turn to ensure that all five toes of both feet touched the pool wall. Get real. If a scramble happens in freestyle, stop it after the same amount of time as in par terrre inactivity. This will simplify things a bit. Scrambling is great for folk but not at the senior level.
  16. I believe his role will lead him to the head coaching job in two to three years and good for him!
  17. I have never seen that move in any freestyle match I've watched.
  18. Zain delivered some pain in Turkey with his bow and arrow. I bet none of the international guys have seen or FELT Zain's bow and arrow. He's showing how folkstyle can influence freestyle.
  19. I think if Dake takes gold at the olympics, he will retire. If not, hard to say.
  20. Dake will run the RTC.
  21. Every wrestler who does not give God credit for being a good wrestler and a good person.
  22. The NFL considers it a PED and suspends a player for four games.
  23. ...because I could not figure out who was wrestling when.
