  1. The challenge is you can spout off all of Askren's stats and someone is going to be on a soap box yelling about who he lost to in his other two finals. . . and it's a valid point; Pendleton owning Askren is definitely a thing but those in the Pendleton camp will say that's all that matters. I think what Askren has that can't be quantified though is completely changing how Americans wrestle; he definitely brought scrambles/funk to the people and now basically everyone but a Cohlton Schultz type needs to know how to do what Askren was doing
  2. Is this the last one or are there more coming?
  3. Didn't see that coming at all; coulda given me a hundred guesses and I wouldn't have gotten it
  4. His Instagram post about it made it sound like a lot of his family has gone through the Air Force; "I am achieving a dream to be a part of a Long Blue Line that includes my family, my first wrestling coach, my friends, and family" Recruiting can be fickle; sometimes that kind of legacy is all that matters. I'm sure he saw Hendrickson's success there and wanted to be next.
  5. You must clearly be a WVU fan, huh? (I kid)
  6. Bono has absolutely wrecked Amos; shoulda been a heavyweight years ago I'm intrigued by Carroll at Wyoming. I just kinda trust Branch to get his priorities in order (and if doesn't work there than it won't anywhere)
  7. Merrill smashing Bechtold was also an eye opener for me; I knew he was good but was expecting a closer match
  8. Those last 15 or so seconds were fantastic
  9. I really liked how Travis Grace looked before he got his knee messed up
  10. I think it was originally supposed to be 4:20 but they pushed it back 30 minutes
  11. If Garrett Thompson, currently at Ohio, was the #4 seed at 174 and won 2 matches at NCAAs this past year, ever gets on the podium he might be a good answer - never even qualified for PA states. He's got one year left at Ohio to try and AA
  12. One could argue that every loss he had in college was either injury (Amuchastegui) or he simply was overlooking the opponent and suddenly it was too late (Letts/Dean). Definitely "coulda/shoulda" been an undefeated 4xer in my book
  13. Any Ed Ruth reference makes me just immediately go to him picking up the major against Hamlin in 2013; just silly
  14. None taken; gave me an excuse to add an avatar pic so I could make that joke. I will push back on Oregon St being the so called new kid on the block. They certainly can't match Okie St cause no one can; but they are like 4th in D1 history in dual meet wins (I believe only Okie St, Iowa St, and Iowa have more program wins) and have a Hodge winner. Just giving them a little respect is all
  15. Kind of a tangent but just some commentary on the Zain/Nolf vs Starocci/Brooks stuff. If you take out Starocci's 5th year to make it even: Zain/Nolf scored 165.5 combined team points at NCAAs Starocci/Brooks scored 154.5 combined team points at NCAAs Zain/Nolf essentially spotted them 13 placement points and still beat them by 11; thats crazy. I'm not a Penn St fan but I very much appreciated watching Zain/Nolf demonstrate their craft. . . much less so on the latter duo . . .
  16. In my defense, I've been on this board for less than week. Also my name is ScottishSteel not Dick; I know my profile pic may make me look big, hairy, and horny but it's definitely not a dick. Have a great weekend sir!
  17. To be fair - calling him a non-placer at PA states was still accurate
  18. I think Oregon St really believes in Hamblin and the growth he is capable of
  19. The funniest identity of the mystery team is Iowa right? I don't think it is Iowa - I just think that would be hilarious
  20. I wanna add Connor Hartman and Mike Macchiavello to the conversation but I think they both did win a state title (Washington and North Carolina respectfully) their senior years
  21. Just the national team mostly; Aberdeen in the SPL but admittedly that's loosely cause life and streaming challenges
  22. Just proudly Scottish; wore a kilt to prom, played the bagpipes, follows the Scottish national soccer teams etc.
  23. Related - anyone know what's going on w/ Chittum? All the speculation and people talking like it was confirmed was he was going home to Nooga but he wasn't in the article they put out today about transfers coming in
  24. I think that's just an Ivy League thing as the Ivies as a whole don't allow redshirts so the kid has to officially leave school to use their redshirt. Most other institutions this wouldn't work as the eligibility clock starts when they enroll so they don't have to unenroll to use their redshirt and if they've already used their redshirt unenrolling would still just be wasting a year of eligbility
  25. No offense to Corby but please don't connect me to Corby; thanks in advance
