  1. Does Russia worry about climate change?
  2. Every Sunday. morning with my kids.
  3. Mauger will need a year (or more) to get the weight on him to be a formidable 125. Reminds me of McHenry.
  4. I agree... there was a time that OK HS wrestling was down for a bit, but they seemed to be upping their game again in more recent years. I also saw that ASU got their next big man in the class of 2025, Sahakian. As we all know, the trouble with 2025 commits is that they still have time and opportunities to flip.
  5. Wanted to go a little off-topic these days with a genuine wrestling question - Who are you excited for coming in for either the '24 or '25 class for your team? Only 1 so far for Oregon State, a fly under the radar type of guy Hudson Rogers. 2025 guys starting to make announcements.
  6. Yet we have Kopi Luwak coffee or otherwise known as Civet Coffee..... where the coffee beans are collected after a Civet cat has eaten them and then pooped them out. Was your coffee @ionel Civet Coffee?
  7. That's a weird answer for my question.... but okay. At least it was a short bridge from transfers to Iowa because of the gambling issue.
  8. Are penalties stiffer for betting on your own school for the NCAAW basketball championships?
  9. The Brands are going to stay several years past their expiration date. They will continue to have respectable finishes at the NCAA in the top 3 or 4 for their tenure (Thanks to Bob). They will keep the fan base happy by naming Spencer as an assistant, then when rumblings start to happen, Spencer will be named the "Associate Head Coach" to quiet people down. He will stay in this capacity for several years until the Brands farewell tour year which will be when they are in their early-mid 60's. Tom will stay on in some made up position in the athletic department in an "advisory" role. Terry will run out of Carver one last time, hop the fence, and keep going, resulting in a "Whatever Happened to Terry Brands" thread by Jimmy.
  10. Yep that's it... I watched that a few years ago. Wrestling is extremely difficult, but doing it with a disability and being successful with it is beyond impressive. Guys like Hamil, Robles, Ackerman, etc. are the toughest of the tough IMO.
  11. Was there a movie about Hamill or am I thinking of another guy?
  12. Good stuff... thanks for sharing! We had a kid in Idaho a number of years ago that was as tough as they come who was deaf. Much easier to wrestle with hearing loss than sight loss, however an amazing story in itself. He ended up being a 2x state champ in a small school division, but beat most of the big school guys if I remember correctly.
  13. It all depends on what they are doing in terms of the NIL. I have done self employment and there are many write offs, but it depends on what they are doing. Also don’t forget that states also have write offs pertaining to education expenses and savings accounts. On my 4th year of doing this and have saved a lot of money. I will say again that they should be hiring an accountant to guide them through this.
  14. Yes you would pay state and federal taxes on your NIL... However, if you are paying for school yourself with NIL money, you get the tax write off at the end as well. 45k in school expenses comes in handy on your taxes at the end as well. You bring up some good points... I think it could be a matter of individual situations as you cited with Vito, which would be different for kids at a state school at half that price. There are also many write-offs that come with self employment as well as paying full price for your own tuition. I know with my daughter, the educational expenses were a pretty nice write off during tax season. Paying full price at 44k is going to get you a decent credit at the end of the day. These guys getting large NIL would be smart to hire a good financial advisor and accountant to make sure they don't blow through all their money and get a tax bill they can't pay.
  15. Yep... depending on what other scholarships they earn... Iowa tuition is about 33k out of state ....45-46 k w/room and board. However, if you get roommates and live off campus it's cheaper. Iowa has one of those progressive tax brackets for how much money is made. Unless there is a higher tax on NIL deals than normal income, I would say the number would be between 52-55k to cover it.
  16. When a kid goes in the portal the school can recind scholarship offers for the next semester or year. It doesn't mean they will, but they can.
  17. Yep - he wasn't in the portal so he will have to wait until March of next year.... one drawback of the portal is that coaches can go out and get guys after the portal closes (Caliendo) and the guys who are getting recruited/signed over, are out of luck and have to stay....Gives coaches an upper hand ... i.e. The Burwick Effect.
  18. It may end up being a non-issue with either gambling suspensions or weight bumps (make it work like you said).
  19. I believe Fall windows are for Spring sports and Spring windows are for Winter sports. I only see the one window for Wrestling from March 9-May 7 with the exception being grad students.... When the "Burwick Incident" occurred he had to wait until clearance which didn't come until February I believe.
  20. I went back and read the report on the alleged sexual assault.... yikes. I would say his eligibility is the least of his problems. Lost in all these arguments about his eligibility and credits, is the fact that it's a very realistic possibility he ends up in prison. Aside from that, I am guessing he will face a civil suit.
  21. Except for I think he still has to spend this year at Iowa since he's not a grad and the portal is closed (insert jokes and gifs.here).
  22. I need to get something off my chest (besides my opponent at state).... Caliendo's run to AA was good....but I am bias, in that Matthew Olguin (sophomore) got hurt in the first round of the tourney but kept wrestling . Lost 9-8 to Caliendo. Griffith beat Caliendo at the NCAA in their most recent match-up. Olguin beat Griffith two straight matches at the end of the season.... including the Pac-12 final. All that to say, you are correct that the margins are slim, however I am adding Olguin to that conversation for next year.
  23. Well, 7th place at the NCAA tells me he may be a few years out yet from being a contender..... but if that's his plan he has time to make that ascent.
  24. Maybe Mr. Lee can make a call.
