  1. god that hurts
  2. You’re absolutely right. Some people think Voelker could bump up to heavyweight, which could make room for both Walrath and Gunderson at 184 and 197.
  3. UNI 125: Anderson 133: Farber/Land 141: Farber/Land 149: Don't know 157: Downey 165: RJ Weston maybe? 174: Simma 184: CJ Walrath? 197: Voelker 285: Grant Stromberg Won't be any true freshmen that will fill any gaps in this lineup as Schwab redshirts everyone. Kind of hard to imagine UNI getting a transfer who will start as that's not really UNI's vibe, but it's happened before. Should be solid at 125, 133, 141, 157, 174, and 197, but unless they get a transfer, 149 will probably be a black hole. I remember people being high on Weston last year but he never cracked the lineup for reasons I can't remember - maybe he just got beat out by Downey and Thomsen. Walrath is supposed to be decent, I think. Stromberg probably has a ways to go before he's a solid D1 heavyweight. Will be interesting to see how Schwab and staff take their success this year and build on it. Can probably assume they'll be solid at 184, whoever it is. So 149, 165, and heavyweight are probably the biggest questions.
  4. What does the PA guy say when the ref slaps the mat for the pin? I've never been able to figure out what he says right before he says "PURDUUUEEEE"
  5. "The book of Revelation mentions the church in Philadelphia, which was written specifically about me competing in the 2025 NCAA championships in a city with the same name but 5000 miles away from the original one." -Mr. Fast Twitch
  6. As a UNI fan, I have this sinking feeling that we're going to end up with only 1 AA again. Would hate to receive all this attention this season and then not perform at the NCAA tournament, but I'm not confident Downey and Happel can put it together, and other guys like Farber, Simma, and Runyon haven't looked sharp for a while.
  7. UNI will need a lot to go their way, but it all seems to be within their margins. Probably the most important/biggest dual of Schwab's career so far. Some pretty good matchups between guys with some history with each other. 125: Spratley beat Anderson 3-2 around this time last year. 133: Don't know who OSU will put here, but will probably be a good match either way. 141: Happel is 3-0 against Jamison. 149: Young majored Realbuto in December. 157: Should be real good one between Downey and Fish 165: Amine beat Thomsen in SV in December 174: Hamiti heavy favorite 184: Always fun to see what the gap is between these guys. Keck won by decision the last time these guys wrestled. 197: Surber has beat Voelker by decision and Voelker has pinned Surber. 285: Basically guaranteed 5 or 6 points for Hendrickson. Probably 6 Could easily see OSU winning this something like 24-9 if a couple of the toss ups go to OSU. But should be at least 8 pretty good matches!
  8. Northern Iowa 125: Trevor Andersen; was probably close to an at-large this year. If he improves in the offseason, he could be an NCAA qualifier. Had a win over then #1 Kamacho this year, but that doesn't really mean much with how 125 was 133: Julian Farber; probably capable of winning a few matches in the NCAA tournament if he doesn't get hurt again 141: Cael Happel; can't ever put a great NCAA tournament together but good wrestler nonetheless who should get close to the podium 149: Colin Realbuto; assuming he returns from Team Italy, he should be another guy capable of making the bloodround. I think he did in 2023? 157: Ryder Downey; returning 5 seed at the NCAA tournament. hopefully with an offseason of improvement, he can be on the podium. Was definitely overseeded this year but he's certainly capable 165: Jack Thomsen; returning NCAA qualifier. People from his hometown think he has the highest ceiling of the Thomsen brothers, but he's running out of time to pull that off 174: Jared Simma; showed what he's capable of at the NCAA tournament this year. Assuming he can get a little better, he could another guy who gets close to the bloodround. Gave Griffith all he could handle, which was probably his best showing even though he beat the 5 seed first round 184: Keck 197: Wyatt Voelker; wasn't sure what we'd get from him this year. Apparently an exceptional Greco guy who did very well in the U20 Greco Worlds, but didn't turn it into a big first year as the starter. Big frame, so hopefully he can get stronger, improve, and win another match or two at the NCAA tournament 285: Jose Valdez; assuming no one transfers in, he's the only heavyweight on the roster this past year besides Gordon. No idea what can be expected of him, but shouldn't be too big a dropoff from Gordon, who didn't qualify for the NCAA tournament this year anyway Some real potential here if all goes well. Knowing the UNI athletics department though, not all will go well.
