  1. I think you put too much stock and significance into the match results of a couple of relatively average (for the BIG Ten) wrestlers. I am sure that Bono and crew have much, much bigger fish to fry than worrying about a possible loss in a relatively meaningless matchup. That said, if indeed you are right that Bono is hung up on Burwick's transfer then I think Bono should see a psychoanalyst - would definitely reflect some screwed up priorities.
  2. But those multiple reports all seem to trace back to one source - Manning (maybe, if second hand information is to be believed - still haven't seen it in the news). And too, one thing that you have failed to address is any possible rationale as to why the UW program would be willing to take such a big PR hit on this situation where, by most all accounts, the UW made an upgrade. Why in the world would the UW make a stink of it when there is not really much of anything to be gained? So, while I can understand how you think some pieces line up to support your position, there are some big gaps in the potential motivation for UW to do anything other than to say "Good luck, Kyle!"
  3. A couple of things that would seem to be evident to me: Burwick's eligibility this year does not rest with the UW signing some paper - this is a matter solely in the hands of the NCAA regardless of what the Badgers want or don't want (the kid is not enrolled at the UW, he is no longer on scholarship at the UW - assuming he was at one point, etc.). So, people saying that the UW needs to sign something before Burwick is free is most likely erroneous - this is obviously an NCAA issue. The fact that some attribute this statement to Manning makes me 1) doubt those posters' familiarity with the situation and/or 2) think that Manning might be a pumpkin - he should know better than to make such a simplistic statement...if he ever did. Would still love to see the explicit quote from Manning on the matter rather than secondhand references. That said, I don't expect posters to spend all sorts of crazy time trying to dig out some statement that may never have been documented to begin with, even if Manning might have indeed said it. I cannot believe Bono really cares whether Burwick is in Nebraska's line up at any time this year; the PR damage associated with trying to block Burwick's release is far greater than any negatives that would be associated with Burwick possibly beating Lamont at some point during the season. I can't believe fear of a Burwick win is driving any of this. When the UW athletic department took the opportunity to publicly address the matter it provided a clumsy statement that appeared as if the UW lawyers drew it up to provide as little substantive details as possible - damned by simple omissions that could have put the whole thing to rest. Last, I sure hope Burwick gets his chance to wrestle this year - the sooner the better...and I will eagerly be awaiting the UW-UN dual
  4. That's some pretty good support for your contentions. But I am not very big into Twitter, etc., can you provide a little background as to who "Inside Nebraska" is? Are they affiliated with the university or something? Thanks in advance.
  5. Where did they say it? Is this what Askren is reporting?
  6. Yeah, but what people hear and what people actually said are often different things, intentional or not. That's why I am trying to willow-out the third-party component. Would love to see a direct quote from Snyder on the matter.
  7. I hear you. That said, of these other "reports" all are delivered second hand or via hearsay - only the UW athletic department come out and posted something coming directly, officially, from them (other than the Burwicks themselves, which at times has been inaccurate). Can someone point me to something specific from the Nebraska camp, e.g., athletic department or coach (not hearsay or second hand reporting), that says something contradicting the UW statement?
  8. Wouldn't be much of a conversation if everyone agreed
  9. The point some of the Badger faithful make is that transfer eligibility is ALWAYS decided at the NCAA level - NOT at the university level. They suggest that now that Burwick is enrolled at another school, not on a UW scholarship, etc., that his availability for the Huskers is strictly an NCAA thing; while the prior school might be able to sign-off on a letter suggesting "go with my blessing," it really isn't a binding constraint with regard to transfer eligibility but rather, the NCAA has the final say...and that's what's holding things up. Personally, I don't know enough about these things to know for sure - anybody else have some better insight as to the actual dynamics?
  10. Yeah, but neither is the NCAA. Standing on the other side is the actual UW athletic department, who has formal standing and supposedly an insider to the ongoing events. Hard to know the truth of the matter. That said, I don't know why the UW would be stalling on this as well as issuing a half-baked statement on the matter. Something smells.
  11. Sorry to say that Askren is not the NCAA - although he may be right. Askren has a hatchet to bury with the UW so take his assessment with a grain of salt - although he might be spot on. UW athletic dept. suggests otherwise - don't know who to believe. if the UW is holding things up it sounds pretty small.
  12. Hey! Hey! Hey! The topic is "Burwick" - not Iowa, okay? Start another thread.
  13. Some of the same discussion over on the Wisconsin wrestling forum about a month or so ago with some strong Wisconsin supporters being adamant that the UW is NOT holding up Burwick but rather, if anyone is blocking Burwick's path it is the NCAA. They cite the Twitter post from the UW Athletics Dept. (see below) as "evidence" of this. At the time, I suggested that this particular post could have said (but did not) that the UW has waived any claims on Burwick's future athletic endeavors and has signed off on his transfer, etc. - but they didn't. I thought the post was a carefully worded statement that didn't come right out and say what it could have said to have made things clear. A few of the Badger faithful accused me of being obtuse and difficult. Any thoughts on this forum?
  14. I say only half-facetiously - girls. Young boys are supremely interested in opportunities to meet young girls. If you recruit popular young ladies, e.g., cheerleaders/statisticians/trainers, etc., into situations it increase the chances of meeting and getting to know them. I am sure any number of guys might be a bit more interested in trying out for the sport if they have the additional opportunity to meet young ladies they might be interested in. The point is, the solutions to the problem are not as direct or obvious as one might think - maybe the task of recruiting popular young ladies is less complex than recruiting young boys? "Bait the trap appropriately," gentlemen
  15. Well, I certainly sympathize with Burwick's situation, but we should all remember that he is the one laying out for us the "who can do what" scenario when in that very same paragraph has already told us that he did not understand the portal transfer rules and that it wasn't his responsibility. His statement might be correct, but there is good reason to not simply accept it at face value just because say's that's how it is. That said, I was very disappointed to see Burwick go - his potential and three-years left seemed like a better deal than Lamont's success and only one year left. Wished Bucky could have kept both in the room for the coming year, but...
