RALEIGH, N.C. -- Ohio State Wrestling (14-1) ended the 2017-18 regular season with a exclamation point, traveling to North Carolina State and handing the sixth-ranked Wolfpack just their second dual defeat of the season (14-2). The No. 6 Buckeyes won eight of 10 bouts and tacked on five bonus points to secure a 29-6 road victory in the final postseason prep match. Takedowns late in the first period were a common theme for Ohio State in this one, as the Buckeyes went ahead 2-0 with less than 30 seconds remaining in the opening period in each of the day's first three bouts. That `attack to the whistle' mentality continued throughout the evening with several more Buckeyes also garnering takedowns seconds before the buzzer. The dual started at 184 pounds where Myles Martin finished off a takedown with two ticks left in the first frame versus No. 3 Pete Renda. Martin snagged an ankle and was momentarily awarded another takedown in the second stanza before the Wolfpack bench successfully challenged the ruling and the two points were reversed. Renda would pick up the escape later in the period and that 2-1 ledger remained until Martin nailed a six-pointer with four nearfall tallies in the final minute of an 8-1 decision to open the evening. Kollin Moore registered a takedown as time wound down in the opening frame as well. Scoring was minimal in the second stanza and for much of the third period. Then, NC State's Michael Macchiavello caught Moore for a pair of takedowns in the final 20 seconds and stole a 7-5 decision over the nation's top-ranked 197-pounder. Kyle Snyder got off to a slow start before becoming the third consecutive Buckeye to notch the late-period takedown in the first. It seemed to unhitch the wagon as Snyder got revved up from there and began his patented `catch-and-release' takedown parade. He racked up 10 takedowns in total and utilized a riding time point to record his 23-8 tech fall over No. 19 Michael Boykin. As the lineup flipped over to 125 pounds, Sean Fausz struck first by taking down Nathan Tomasello for a 2-0 edge. The upper hand was short-lived, however, as Tomasello regrouped with a 12-4 run to storm back as a 12-6 victor in the Top-5 showdown. Luke Pletcher fell behind 2-0, too, but got back on track with yet another late-period takedown to close out the first leading 5-3. He escaped in the second and then rode out Ohio native and 13th-ranked Tariq Wilson for the entire third frame in a 7-3 decision. Joey McKenna wasn't down with the get-down when it came to waiting for that takedown. He secured his right away and added another by period's end to go ahead 4-1 over No. 2 Kevin Jack through 180 seconds. He'd stretch the gap to four points at 6-2 before all was said and done, continuing his recent hot streak. Ke-Shawn Hayes kept the pressure on at 149 pounds, posting Ohio State's sixth straight triumph. He did a little bit of everything in getting past No. 13 Beau Donahue, 11-5, for his 23rd overall win of the year. North Carolina State freshman Hayden Hidlay entered the 157-pound clash as one of just 14 undefeated wrestlers left across the country, and left as such (20-0) despite a scare from Micah Jordan. Ebbs and flows were aplenty, beginning with Jordan's takedown in the first period. Hidlay escaped and then turned Jordan for a pair of nearfall tallies after Jordan elected to start period number two in the referee's position. Jordan would free himself to even the score at 3-3 entering the third. Hidlay's instant escape to start the third lifted him back ahead at 4-3, and then he sealed the deal with a takedown for a 6-3 decision. Te'Shan Campbell got back to the win column and narrowly missed out on bonus points. He put away Brian Hamann, 7-0, and then took a seat to witness Bo Jordan close it out in only 97 seconds at 174 pounds. Jordan's 80th career win came via pin (1:37). GREELEY, Colo. -- Air Force posted wins in eight weight classes to fly by Big 12 foe Northern Colorado (3-10, 2-6 Big 12), 27-6, in the final dual of the season. The win finalizes the Falcons 2018 dual slate at 8-5 as they prepare to head to the Big 12 Championships. The dual kicked off in the 133 class where junior Isaac Jimenez took on No. 25 Rico Montoya. Montoya narrowly edged by Jimenez, 6-5, to put the Bears on the board for their only lead of the day. Sophomore Alec Opsal, who finalized a 7-1 dual record on the season, set the tone for the rest of the dual by pinning his opponent 66-seconds into the first period. Opsal leads the team with four pins in dual action this season. Falcon veterans Dane Robbins and Alex Mossing continued the charge, posting decision wins in their respective weight divisions. Robbins, who leads the team with nine dual meet wins, took a 6-2 decision over Jimmy Fate, while Mossing won, 5-3, over Tyler Kinn to propel the Falcons to a 12-3 lead. Alex Lopouchanski took the mat against No. 20 Keilan Torres determined to make some noise in the coaches' poll. A staunch defensive battle yielded an escape point apiece; however, it was Lopouchanski who would score the takedown before the whistle, knocking off the 2017 national qualifier, 3-1. Falcon senior Michael Billingsley followed up with a 6-5 win over Seth Bogulski in the 174 class. Northern Colorado's Dylan Gabel would notch the Bears' final win of the night as he narrowly got by Zen Ikehara, 2-0. The Falcons' big guys, Anthony McLaughlin and Matt Wagner, responded with decision wins in their respective matches. McLaughlin outpaced Tanner Davis to a 6-3 victory, while Wagner beat Robert Winters, 2-1. The final bout at 125 came down to the wire as the Tony DeCesare and Sean Cannon entered sudden victory knotted at two. DeCesare proved to be hungrier as he got in on Cannon's leg and chased him down for two points and the win, securing the Falcons' victory, 27-6. Sam Barber's Falcons finalized their most winning season since Barber took the helm four seasons ago. FAIRFAX, Va. -- The Patriots (4-13) finished up its dual match season with a 40-9 win against VMI at the RAC on Senior Day. Mason honored seniors Ibrahim Bunduka, Austin Harrison and Daniel Mika at the halftime break of the dual. Mason seniors Bunduka and Harrison both won their matches in front of the home crowd at the RAC. At 125 pounds, Bunduka had three takedowns in the first period en route to his 21-6 technical fall win against VMI's Clifton Conway. Harrison battled against Chris beck at 184, and won by fall at 4:27. Harrison revenged a 4-1 loss to Beck last season. VMI (2-11) earned points in two bouts (141 and 165) with a technical fall and a decision. The Keydets Shamus Bartmess narrowly defeated Mason's Garrett Griffith, 15-13 at 165 to bring VMI to within 10 points, 19-9, but that is the closest they would get as the Patriots won the last four matches. In the final four duals, Mason earned 21 points with three matches won by fall and the other in sudden victory by Eli Spencer against Max Gallahan. Spencer won with a takedown halfway into the one minute period. He had previously lost to Gallahan earlier this season at the Franklin and Marshall Open. The Patriots will prepare for the EWL Championships in Edinboro, Pa. on March 4. MORGANTOWN, W.Va. -- In front of a program-record setting crowd of 4,517 Mountaineer fans, the West Virginia University wrestling team closed out the regular season with a 25-13 win over Clarion, on Sunday afternoon, at the WVU Coliseum. The Mountaineers (6-7, 4-4) won six of 10 matches to defeat the Golden Eagles (10-7, 4-2 EWL), using back-to-back pins at 125 and 133 pounds, respectively. Redshirt freshman Hunter Jones also picked up his first dual-match win of the season at 157 pounds, while true freshmen Nick Kiussis (165) and Brenden McRill (184) each notched a win by decision in their respective weight classes. Additionally, redshirt senior Jacob A. Smith (197) captured a bonus victory on his Senior Day. "This was a huge group effort," said fourth-year coach Sammie Henson. "We have talked about this before, but this time, it was a total group effort. Our 157 pounder got a win for us. He got a win for himself and a win for George Washington High. It was pretty cool to see. He has been behind Zach Moore all year, and to have Hunter Jones go out there and get a win as a West Virginia native, we are proud of that. Of course, Jake got a win on Senior Day. Parker [VonEgidy] wrestled hard in his match. Overall, I thought we dominated, and that's what we needed to do going into Big 12's." Redshirt junior Zeke Moisey, ranked 14th nationally, started the Mountaineers off with a victory at 125 pounds. The Northampton, Pennsylvania, native earned his team-leading 20th win of the season, pinning Clarion's Gavin Park in 2 minutes, 17 seconds. He finished the regular season with a 9-3 dual record, winning five of his last six matches. The 125-pound wrestler also paced the Mountaineers with 41 match points and 28 takedowns on the year. Redshirt freshman Matthew Schmitt followed Moisey's lead in the next bout, taking down Roshaun Cooley in 4:31 for his third pin of the season. Schmitt's pin added six more points on the scoreboard, giving West Virginia the 12-0 advantage after two. However, the Golden Eagles cut their lead to six with back-to-back decisions at 141 and 149 pounds, respectively. Jones pushed the Mountaineers lead back to nine with his 3-1 decision in sudden victory over Mac Tanner at 157 pounds. After a scoreless three minutes of action, the Charleston, West Virginia, native earned a second-period escape for the 1-0 lead entering the final frame. Tanner opted to start on bottom in the third, forcing the match into overtime with an escape of his own. Jones did not back down though, using a takedown with 35 seconds left in the period to score his first dual-match win of the season. At 165 pounds, Kiussis collected an easy 5-0 decision over Max Wohlabaugh for his 13th win of the year. The Brunswick, Ohio, native claimed a first-period takedown and a second-period escape for a 3-0 lead into the final frame. Wohlabaugh was called for stalling twice in the third, adding another point for Kiussis, who also tacked on the riding time point at the end of the period for the 5-0 victory. Ahead 18-6 in team scoring, redshirt senior Parker VonEgidy dropped a hard-fought 7-4 decision to Dom Rigous. VonEgidy earned four near fall points in the second stanza to tie the match at 4-4, but it wasn't enough, as Rigous tacked on two near fall points as well as the ride time point in the final frame for the 7-4 decision. McRill got the Mountaineers back on track, as he earned a 3-0 decision over Taylor Cahill at 184 pounds. Following a scoreless three minutes, McRill elected to start on bottom, earning the escape for the 1-0 lead heading into the final frame. Cahill then chose to start in the defensive position, but could not earn an escape of his own, as McRill rode him through the period to pick up his 10th victory of the season. Smith. Ranked 18th nationally, then made it two in a row for the Mountaineers, winning a 12-4 major decision over Dustin Conti at 197 pounds. The win marked Smith's first bonus victory of the season, as he collected a pair of takedowns and four nearfall points in the match. Sophomore Brandon Ngati finished things off for the Mountaineers, as he dropped a 12-2 major decision to Clarion's Toby Cahill. Despite the loss, West Virginia walked away with the 25-13 team victory. Of note, the Mountaineers honored their two seniors following today's competition. Smith joined the Mountaineers in 2014 after starting his wrestling career at Cleveland State. A three-time NCAA qualifier, Smith will finish five action seasons with more than 85 wins. VonEgidy also became a Mountaineer in 2014 after spending one season at Missouri. The highlight of his career came last season, as he earned a fourth-place finish in the 184-pound bracket at the 2017 Big 12 Championship. After a week off, West Virginia heads to the 2017 Big 12 Championship on March 3-4. The event will be held at the BOK Center in Tulsa, Oklahoma. FRESNO, Calif. -- The fifth-ranked Oklahoma State wrestling team wrapped up its dual schedule Sunday afternoon with a 41-0 shutout of Fresno State at the Save Mart Center. It marks the team's most lopsided win since its 41-0 sweep of Stanford in Gallagher-Iba Arena on Feb. 14, 2016. The Cowboys (13-2, 8-0 Big 12) piled up seven bonus point wins in nine contested matches on Sunday, including a trio of falls from Kaid Brock, Dean Heil and Chandler Rogers, as well as a tech fall from Nick Piccininni and three major decisions. At 125 pounds, Piccininni rebounded from a slow start in which Fresno State's Sean Williams scored the opening takedown for an early, 2-0 lead. The Cowboy redshirt sophomore would respond nicely, finishing the period with a takedown of his own to seize control of the lead and head to the second period with a 3-2 advantage. From that point, it was all Piccininni as he escaped from his starting position and added a takedown in the second and three nearfalls in the third to secure the 19-2 tech -- his seventh of the season -- at the buzzer. Brock got the Cowboys' team score into double digits at 133 pounds with a first-period fall over Trevor Williams in the second bout of the day. Brock opened the match with a pair of quick takedowns before turning Williams to his back for the pin in 1:41. Heil continued to pour it on for OSU at 141, scoring his sixth fall of the year in the second period against Chris DeLoza. The Cowboy senior lead, 2-0, after one and added a takedown and nearfall in the second period before turning DeLoza again and decking the Bulldog in 4:34. Boo Lewallen picked up a 9-4 decision over No. 21 Khristian Olivas at 149 pounds to stretch the OSU lead to 20-0. Lewallen prevented Olivas from scoring any offensive points while scoring a reversal, nearfall and takedown in the bout on the way to his 23rd win of the season. Filling in for an injured Jonce Blaylock at 157 pounds, Tristan Moran used a big third period to defeat Fresno State's Greg Gaxiola, 6-2, and send the Cowboys into the intermission leading, 23-0. With Gaxiola leading, 2-1, heading to the final frame, Moran came out of a scramble in the third with a takedown and nearly took Gaxiola to his back for the pin. The Cowboy instead settled for a two-point nearfall and rode out the remainder of the period to finish off the victory. With Fresno State forfeiting at 165 pounds, the Cowboys elected to double forfeit the match and bump Chandler Rogers up to 174 to face Dominic Kincaid. Rogers didn't appear to have much trouble with the move, taking down Kincaid and turning him for the fall in 2:20. The pin marked the Cowboy's 10th of the season. The Cowboys closed out the dual with three-straight major decisions from Keegan Moore, Andrew Marsden and Derek White. Moore was consistent throughout his bout with Richie Brandt, piling up six takedowns in the match on the way to a 14-5 major decision. It marked the first major of the redshirt freshman's collegiate career. Like Moore, Marsden had no issue scoring either, dropping Josh Hokit, 12-2. After a takedown in each of the first and second periods, Marsden added a couple more in the third frame to go along with a pair of stall warnings on Hokit for the redshirt sophomore's fourth major of the season. Finally, Derek White rounded out the shutout for the Cowboys with a nice win over young talent AJ Nevills. White was able to take down Nevills four times while preventing any offensive scoring from the Bulldog on the way to a 10-2 major. The Cowboy leads the team in major decisions with 11. AMES, Iowa -- The seventh-ranked University of Iowa wrestling team scored bonus points in four bouts and won all nine contested matches to rout Iowa State, 35-6, on Sunday at Hilton Coliseum. image 8Spencer Lee (125) and Alex Marinelli (165) both registered pins in under a minute, and Vince Turk (141) and Sam Stoll (285) both won by major decision to help Iowa extend its winning streak in the series to 14. The Hawkeyes also won by decision at 133, 149, 157, 174, and 285. Iowa forfeited 197. The Hawkeyes recorded 22 takedowns and allowed one. The 29-point margin of victory is the largest in the series since a 32-3 Hawkeye win in 2012. WHEN IT WAS OVER The dual was over shortly after 165 started. Marinelli led Skyler St. John, 2-0, when he used a front headlock whip-over to end the match with a fall in 52 seconds. The pin gave Iowa a 25-0 lead with four matches to go. Glynn got on the board with a second-period takedown and pulled within 7-6 when he turned a cradle into four nearfall points. A third-period takedown gave Glynn the lead with 1:04 left in the match, and he finished on top to erase riding time and walk off the mat with the 8-7 decision. EYE ON 141 Vince Turk got the nod at 141 and handed a 13-5 major decision to No. 18 Ian Parker, the Cyclones lone ranked wrestler. Turk scored two takedowns and two nearfall in the first period, and added a reversal and takedown in the third to complement 2:51 of riding time. The win was Turk's first over a ranked opponent this season. RIVALRY NOTES Iowa retained possession of the Dan Gable Traveling Trophy, making it a perfect 8-for-8 in duals since the trophy's inception in 2010. BETHLEHEM, Pa. -- Trailing 10-6 at intermission, No. 9 Lehigh rallied to win the final five bouts to defeat Pitt 25-10 in the final dual of the season for both teams Sunday inside Leeman-Turner Arena at Grace Hall. The Mountain Hawks won just two of the first five bouts, but three straight bonus point victories coming out of intermission lifted Lehigh to its third consecutive dual win. Junior Gordon Wolf's technical fall victory at 165 put Lehigh in front for good and sophomore Jordan Kutler and Ryan Preisch followed with wins by major decision at 174 and 184, respectively to give Lehigh a 19-10 lead with two bouts remaining. Lehigh overcame a sluggish start for the second straight dual but finishes the dual season at 12-3. "Pitt has been a much better team as the year has gone on," Lehigh head coach Pat Santoro said. "Keith (Gavin) and his staff are doing a great job. I was a little concerned coming in. I knew there would be a lot of tight matches. We ended up being on the losing end of a few of those, so we have a few things to work on here." 2/18/2018 Lehigh Wrestling vs Pitt Lehigh Wrestling vs Pitt Pitt finishes the dual season at 4-11 and had its two dual winning streak snapped. Sunday was also Senior Day at Grace Hall, with the Mountain Hawks honoring their five-member senior class. The only Lehigh senior to compete on Sunday was Darian Cruz, who saw his offense stymied but managed to defeat LJ Bentley 1-0 in the opening bout at 125. A second period escape was the only point of the match as Cruz used strong defense and positioning to close out the final period. Cruz finishes the regular season at 22-0, becoming the first Mountain Hawk to finish the regular season unbeaten since Zach Rey in 2010-11. He also passed Steve Cassidy for sixth place on Lehigh's career wins list with 112. Pitt evened things up at 133 as Dom Forys edged Scott Parker 7-6 in a battle of ranked wrestlers. Forys won the takedown battle 2-1 and pulled ahead for good with a third period escape that broke a 6-6 tie. The Panthers took their first lead at 141 as Nick Zanetta dealt freshman Luke Karam his second loss of the weekend 6-1. Karam led 1-0 in the third period when Zanetta scored a takedown and added a late tilt for four near fall points. Junior Cortlandt Schuyler evened the team score at 6-6 with a 4-3 win over Robert Lee at 149, with Schuyler using a second period takedown and third period reversal to three escapes for the Panther. Taleb Rahmani's 15-7 major decision over junior Ian Brown at 157 gave Pitt the 10-6 lead at the break. "We're scratching our heads a bit at the first five because they were our hammers early in the year," Santoro said. "We'll figure it out, but right now we're not doing the little things well. We're not pushing the pace. We're not hand fighting. We're not mat returning or trying to ride guys those first five weights. That makes a difference. You have to put multiple attacks together. That's the technical part. From a mental part we just need to get tougher in those positions." As it went down in Friday's 31-4 win over Oklahoma it was Wolf awakening the Mountain Hawks and the Grace Hall crowd. A pair of first period takedowns, combined with four point near falls staked Wolf to a 12-1 lead after three minutes. Wolf added reversals in the second and third periods and after a penalty point for unnecessary roughness, closed out the technical fall with a takedown with 1:05 left in the third period to defeat Jake Wenzel 19-4. "He went out there and said 'Don't worry, I've got this,'" Santoro said of Wolf. "He did a great job and ignited the crowd." Kutler gave Lehigh some cushion with a five takedown performance in a 14-4 major decision over Austin Bell at 174. Kutler added an escape, two penalty points and over three minutes of riding time advantage to secure his 20th victory of the season. Preisch made it three straight bonus wins to open the second half, defeating Gregg Harvey by a 10-1 major at 184. Preisch scored takedowns late in each of the first two periods, and added a takedown and two point near fall in the third to secure the bonus point. Freshman Chris Weiler made it four straight wins for the Mountain Hawks with a 3-1 decision over Kellan Stout at 197. Weiler scored the early takedown of the bout in the first period, and after being ridden out in the second, with several reversal attempts stalemated, rode out the third period himself to secure riding time advantage. The final bout of the dual season did not lack drama as freshman heavyweight Jordan Wood trailed Ryan Solomon on riding time with under a minute to go in the third period, but after several shots forced a stall warning against Solomon, Wood finally was able to convert a takedown and rode out to erase the time advantage in a 3-1 decision. "He's been right there all year in these big matches," Santoro said of Wood. "For him to get that one was really big. His effort is always A-plus and he's finally seeing the rewards, which is big for him." MADISON, Wis. -- No. 22 Purdue closed out the dual season with a 25-15 upset of No. 18 Wisconsin at the UW Field House on Sunday. Griffin Parriott's pin and a shutout major decision by No. 18 Luke Welch highlighted the Boilermakers' seven wins. They finish the season with an overall dual record of 9-7 and 3-6 in the Big Ten Conference, while handing the Badgers (7-4, 4-4 B1G) their second loss of the weekend and their regular season finale. Parriott avenged an Andrew Crone pin from the Cliff Keen Las Vegas Collegiate Wrestling Invitational with a pin of his own, sticking the 14th-ranked Badger at 3:17 in the dual's very first match at 157 pounds. Parriott held a 5-2 advantage after a high-action first period that saw him take Crone down twice. “Even though I got pinned the last time we wrestled, that match gave me a lot of confidence,” Parriott said. “After that match I told my dad that I would beat him [Crone] the next time because I got caught in a scramble. Coach [Jake] Sueflohn told me I needed to create action, and with my athleticism, I would win those 50/50 situations. “I was surprised he [Crone] shot right away and that created a scramble. I was able to come out on top in both of those flurries in the first period.” Crone was trying to escape to start the second frame as Parriott held his left leg. The redshirt freshman came around and flipped Crone over the top, to his shoulders, then to his back for the fall. The pin is the fourth of the season for Parriott as he picked up his 14th win and his first over a ranked opponent. “This win is a momentum booster going into Big Tens,” the New Prague, Minnesota native said. “Mentally, this is the biggest thing for me since I have had some setbacks this season. I was questioning myself and now I've pinned a guy that has beaten top-five guys.” At 125 pounds, Welch returned to Welch form, blanking Johnny Jimenez out 11-0. The redshirt senior came out on a mission in the regular season finale, taking Jimenez down quickly and earning swipes on two occasions for a 6-0 edge. Welch added another takedown in the third, received a pair of penalty points for Jimenez stalling and racked up 2:02 of riding time. Welch lifted his season record to 25-7, while also closing out his dual career at 35-18. Purdue followed with a pair of decisions in rematches at 133 and 141. Ben Thornton (25-8) notched his second win of the season over Jens Lantz 7-3. Thornton, a native of nearby Stoddard, had takedowns in the first and third frames, along with a reversal in the third for the win. No. 15 Nate Limmex avenged a 6-3 loss to Eli Stickley with a dramatic late takedown for a 6-4 win that secured the dual for the Boilermakers. Limmex trailed 4-3 with 21 seconds remaining when he got the winning takedown. His 1:10 of riding time earned him the extra point, pushing the redshirt sophomore's record to 23-12. No. 12 Dylan Lydy (174), Christian Brunner (197) and No. 17 Shawn Streck (285) all turned in decisions to contribute to the Boilermakers' victory. The postseason awaits Purdue. ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The No. 4-ranked University of Michigan wrestling team closed out the dual-meet season in style, claiming seven matches en route to a 30-9 win against 20th-ranked in-state rival Central Michigan on Sunday afternoon (Feb. 18) in front of a crowd of 1,602 at Cliff Keen Arena. Five Wolverines earned bonus points in their individual wins, including fifth-year senior Domenic Abounader and graduate student Adam Coon -- U-M's captains -- in their final appearances at Keen Arena. Abounader, ranked fifth nationally at 184 pounds, cruised to a 12-2 major decision against 15th-ranked Jordan Ellingwood behind four takedowns and two back points. He broke the match open on a two-and-two counter attack in the second and iced the bonus point with a takedown on the edge late in the third, riding out the match for 2:23 in time advantage. Coon, ranked No. 1 at heavyweight, earned his 10th fall of the season on a second-period stick against Matt Stencel at the 3:19 mark. Coon, who led 6-1 at the time, scored a quick reversal in the second, then used an arm bar to turn Stencel and secure the pin. He improved to 23-0 on the season. With the dual starting at 165 pounds, Michigan claimed six of the opening weights. Junior/sophomores Logan Massa and Myles Amine preceded Abounader with decisive wins of their own at 165 and 174 pounds, respectively. Massa, ranked ninth, scored five takedowns and rode for 1:42 to defeat Logan Parks, 13-5, while fifth-ranked Amine finished on three takedowns -- one in each period -- and accumulated 2:56 in riding time to beat 14th-ranked C.J. Brucki. As with Abounader, it was the second win this season for each Wolverine wrestler against their CMU opponent. Freshman Drew Mattin, ranked 12th at 125 pounds, turned the lineup over with a 4-1 decision against Drew Hildebrandt after the intermission break. Mattin took the lead with a go-behind on the edge midway through the first period, escaped quickly in the second and rode out the majority of the third to build a 2:23 time advantage. It was Mattin's third win this season against Hildbrandt. Junior/sophomore Stevan Micic, ranked second at 133 pounds, overcame an initial deficit to claim a dominant 22-7 technical fall against Dresden Simon after riding time. Micic, who has given up just two total takedowns over his last 12 matches, rallied with quick reversal and three takedowns in the first and second before blowing the match open in the third, scoring on three more takedowns and a pair of four-point leg turks. Senior/junior Malik Amine, ranked 20th, was also dominant in a 15-0 technical fall against Nolan Saxton at 149 pounds. Amine scored on a single-leg takedown off the opening whistle and added three four-point leg turks in the first period. He started down in the second and earned a quick escape to end the match at the 3:15 mark. The Wolverines (11-3) will have two weeks to prepare for the 2018 Big Ten Championships, slated for Saturday and Sunday, March 3-4, in East Lansing, Michigan. EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. -- No. 17 Northwestern (11-4, 5-4 Big Ten) wrapped up its monumental 2017-18 dual slate with a resounding, 36-10, victory over SIUE (6-15, 4-3 SoCon) at the Vadalabene Center on Sunday afternoon. The Wildcats finished their dual slate with a .733 winning percentage, tying their best mark since posting a .733 finish in the 2011-12 slate. NU's three pins tied its season-high, also done against Maryland on December 2, 2017, en route to eight individual wins overall. Northwestern came out of the gate with three-straight wins, including heaps of bonus points from No. 5 Ryan Deakin (149) and Shayne Oster (157). Alec McKenna (141) started the afternoon off with a clean, 5-0 decision over Dakota Leach to hand the Wildcats three team points. Deakin followed up with a first-period pin, his team-best eighth win by fall of the campaign. He wrapped up his dual mark at 14-1, with his only setback coming to #2 Brandon Sorensen (Iowa) in a controversial, overtime decision. Oster continued his scorching-hot wrestling with a 16-0 tech fall of Karsten Van Velsor. Oster stretched his winning streak to three-straight, a stretch that started with a match-clinching pin of Griffin Parriott against No. 22 Purdue last Friday. Before the intermission, No. 20 Johnny Sebastian (174) notched a shutout, 8-0 major decision over Bryce Shewan to extend the Wildcat lead to 14 points heading into the break. PRINCETON, N.J. -- No. 12 Nicholas Gravina (184) joined the pin pool, John Van Brill (157) collected his second ranked victory of the weekend and No. 21 Rutgers wrestling (8-7, 3-6) defeated in-state foe Princeton (4-9, 3-2), 28-7, Sunday afternoon inside Jadwin Gymnasium. The Scarlet Knights earned wins in eight of 10 bouts against the Tigers, which included a major decision from Michael Van Brill (141) and decisions from Shane Metzler (125), No. 20 Scott DelVecchio (133), No. 7 Richie Lewis (165), Joseph Grello (174) and Razohnn Gross (HWT). The win secured the 12th consecutive winning dual season for Rutgers and head coach Scott Goodale - who picked up his 161st-career victory with the program - and also proved to be the 22 consecutive win over the Tigers. "It's a rivalry match, so I'm proud of our guys and proud of our program," Goodale said. "I love the way we handled the travel, fought through adversity all year long with some of our best guys in and out of the lineup. It's a product of what goes on in our program and the guys in it." The bout of the afternoon came courtesy of John Van Brill versus No. 13 Mike D'Angelo, and Van Brill did not disappoint. With D'Angelo up, 2-1, after the first period, Van Brill caught D'Angelo with a single leg at the 50-second mark in period two and tripped his opponent for the takedown and a 3-2 lead. With D'Angelo starting on top in period three, Van Brill then worked a reversal for the 5-3 result. It marked Van Brill's second ranked victory in as many matches, as he also collected a win over No. 14 Andrew Krone last Friday against Wisconsin. Rutgers sprinted off to a quick 10-0 lead with wins in its first three bouts. Metzler, who filled in for No. 1 Nick Suriano (125), earned his second win of the weekend and his varsity career with a 9-7 decision in sudden victory over Matteo DeVincenzo. Metzler produced two takedowns in the first two periods for a 7-4 lead, but DiVincenzo was able to come back with a last-second takedown to make it 7-7 after regulation. With the clock ticking down in sudden victory one, Metzler drove DiVincenzo into the mat for two and a 9-7 final result. Metzler's overtime victory put RU up, 3-0, to start the match. DelVecchio followed with a strong 10-4 decision over Jonathan Gomez. With a 7-3 lead after two periods, DelVecchio muscled his second takedown of the match to extend his lead and added the riding time point. Hungry for a win, Michael Van Brill also performed well in his match with Jordan Reich. The redshirt freshman raced out to a 6-1 lead after period one courtesy of two takedowns and two back points in the opening three minutes. A takedown with 1:05 left in the match and the riding time point gave Van Brill the 9-1 major decision. After a tough 8-1 loss from No. 11 Eleazar DeLuca to No. 12 Matthew Kolodzik, John Van Brill followed with his upset victory to give Rutgers a 13-3 lead at intermission. Lewis wasted no time keeping the momentum in favor of the Scarlet Knights in his bout with two-time national qualifier Jordan Schleifer. With just a 1-0 lead midway through the second period, Lewis worked a single leg for the takedown and a 3-0 lead. Lewis countered a Schleifer escape in the third period with another takedown, and walked out of Jadwin with a 5-1 decision. Rutgers closed out the dual with wins in three of its final four bouts. Grello earned a tough 7-0 decision over Matthew Gancayco, highlighted by four near-fall points in the closing period. Gravina followed with a first-period fall over Kevin Parker, stuffing his opponent at the 1:58 mark in the match for six team points to give the Scarlet Knights a comfortable 25-3 lead. A loss at 197 pounds followed, but Gross made sure the RU faithful in attendance left on a high note. Trailing 3-2 to Christian Araneo midway through period two, Gross spun around for the takedown and a 4-3 lead. Araneo was able to escape to make it a 4-4 score at the end of regulation, but Gross worked another takedown for the 6-4 decision in sudden victory. CHARLESTON, S.C. -- Returning to Charleston's McAlister Field House next month for the Southern Conference tournament, Appalachian State's wrestling team secured an outright championship at the same site Sunday afternoon. The Mountaineers wrapped up their third straight SoCon title and a second straight unbeaten run through the league with a 45-6 victory at The Citadel. Wins by Randall Diabe, Angel Najar, Cary Miller, Gavin Londoff, Laken Cook, Alan Clothier, Codi Russell, De'Andre Swinson-Barr and Joe Accousti were part of a coastal coronation for coach JohnMark Bentley's team, which ended the regular season at 7-0 in the conference and 9-4 overall. Eight of App State's nine wins against the Bulldogs (1-12, 0-7) involved bonus points, as Swinson-Barr (125 pounds) and Cook (165) recorded pins. Russell (133) won by forfeit, and Najar's match at 157 ended with a medical forfeit, while Accousti (174) and Clothier (184) had back-to-back technical falls. Londoff (149) and Miller (heavyweight) won with major decisions. Diabe (197) pulled out a 3-2 decision against Sawyer Root. With three freshmen and three sophomores in its customary lineup, App State posted its 10th regular-season SoCon championship (dating back to 1994) and three-peated for the second time. The Mountaineers also won three consecutive titles in 1997, 1998 and 1999. Diabe (7-0 at 197 pounds), senior Forrest Przybysz (5-0 at 174) and Najar (5-0 at 157) went unbeaten in SoCon dual meets. Clothier (184), Miller (heavyweight), Londoff (149) and Russell (133) finished with 6-1 records. Diabe and Irvin Enriquez (141 pounds) were the only returning starters who wrestled at the same weight during the 7-0 run to a SoCon title last year. Przybysz and Londoff were also back in the lineup, but at different weights, and the Mountaineers' 3-3 start to a new-look season included losses to three teams that have been ranked: fifth-ranked ACC champion NC State, North Carolina and Oklahoma. App State capped the regular season with six wins in its last seven dual meets, including the close road victories in lively atmospheres at Campbell and Chattanooga. The Mountaineers were ahead 15-12 in Buies Creek before Londoff claimed a 5-4 decision in the final match, and they trailed 16-12 in Chattanooga before Diabe upset highly ranked Scottie Boykin by a 3-2 score and Miller clinched the victory with a 7-5 decision. That comeback set the stage for a championship-crowning win at The Citadel. The Mountaineers return to action at the SoCon tournament on March 3 at McAlister Field House. UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -- The Penn State Nittany Lions (14-0, 9-0 B1G) closed out their third straight unbeaten dual meet season by pinning a 55-0 shutout on Buffalo in sold out Rec Hall. The Nittany Lions win over the Bulls allows head coach Cael Sanderson's team to end the campaign with a 14-0 overall. Penn State already won the 2018 Big Ten Regular Season (Dual Meet) title with a 9-0 mark. Buffalo falls to 5-12. Three seniors got the call in their final dual collegiate dual meets, led by Zain Retherford (Benton, Pa.) at 149. The Nittany Lions have now won 45 straight dual meets dating back to the end of the 2014-15 campaign. Penn State dropped a 21-18 dual at Oklahoma State on Feb. 15, 2015 and closed out the year with a win over Rider. The Nittany Lions went 16-0 in 2015-16, 14-0 in 2016-17 and 14-0 this year. While this was a non-conference win, Penn State will head into next year with a 25-dual win streak in Big Ten action as well. The sell-out crowd of 6,431 was the 41st straight sell-out in Rec Hall, giving the Nittany Lions 45 sellouts in its last 47 home duals (41 straight in Rec Hall and four of six in the near-16,000 seat Bryce Jordan Center). The dual began at 125 where senior graduate transfer Carson Kuhn (Sandy, Utah) was set to close out his collegiate dual career in front of a rowdy Rec Hall crowd. Kuhn, who transferred from Boise State in January, received a forfeit victory as Buffalo did not weigh in a competitor. Senior Corey Keener (Schuylkill Haven, Pa.) wrestled in the final dual of his collegiate career at 133. The transfer from Central Michigan dominated Justin Patrick, rolling to an 8-3 victory with 1:52 in riding time to put Penn State up 9-0 early. True freshman Nick Lee (Evansville, Ind.), ranked No. 8 at 141, dominated Nicholas Cassella before picking up the fall at the 4:37 mark. Lee's pin set up Retherford's career dual finale at 149. Retherford, ranked No. 1 nationally, said goodbye to Rec Hall with his 52nd career pin. The Lion said goodbye to the Rec Hall faithful with a pin over Nick Palumbo at the 4:10 mark. The win improves the Lion senior to 23-0 on the year. With No. 1 Jason Nolf (Yatesboro, Pa.) out one more time at 157, redshirt freshman Bo Pipher (Paonia, Colo.) stepped in and picked up his first dual win as a Nittany Lion by pinning Eric Fasnacht at the 1:53 mark. Penn State led 27-0 at intermission. Sophomore Vincenzo Joseph (Pittsburgh, Pa.), ranked No. 3 at 165, posted a strong and workmanlike 16-8 major over Noah Grover to open up the second half, putting the Lions up 31-0. Sophomore Mark Hall (Apple Valley, Minn.), ranked No. 2 at 174, then notched PSU's fourth pin of the dual, picking up the fast fall of Derek Holcomb at the 0:56 mark. Junior Bo Nickal (Allen, Texas), ranked No. 1 at 184, notched his eighth fast fall in under 1:00, taking down and sticking Brett Parry in just 0:11. The fall is tied for second all-time at Penn State for fastest pin (David Taylor in 2014). Dylan Alton holds the record with a pin at the 0:08 mark in 2013. Junior Shakur Rasheed (Coram, N.Y.), ranked No. 5 at 197, kept Penn State's pin parade going by getting the fall over Buffalo senior Joe Ariola at the 1:57 mark to put the Nittany Lions up 49-0. Junior Nick Nevills (Clovis, Calif.), ranked No. 4 at 285, took on Buffalo's Nolan Terrance in the final bout of the dual. The Lion junior took Terrance down twice early and, on the second one, took the Bull down to his back, reset himself briefly and picked up Penn State's seventh pin of the dual at the 2:48 mark. Nevills' fall secured a 55-0 shutout win, clinched a new PSU record for points in a dual meet (55) and tied the all-time record for pins in a dual (7). The points and pins records were both set on Jan. 25, 1983, when the Lions used seven pins to beat Millersville 54-0. The shutout was Penn State's first of the year and the Lions picked up 25 bonus points off seven pins (Lee, Retherford, Pipher, Hall, Nickal, Rasheed, Nevills), a forfeit (Kuhn) and a major (Joseph). The Nittany Lions posted a gaudy 24-1 takedown advantage in the dual. Retherford now has 118 career wins, 13th all-time at Penn State. He has 52 career pins (16 this year), third all-time and just one shy of the Penn State record of 53 held by David Taylor and Josh Moore. While Nolf stays at fifth all-time with 44 career pins, Nickal has 14 this year and 39 for his career, sixth all-time. Rasheed has 12 this season and 20 for his career and Hall has 10 this year and 22 for his career, both just out of the top 20 all-time in Penn State history. A total of nine individuals were honored as part of Senior Day. In addition to Kuhn, Keener and Retherford, Lions Jered Cortez, Matt McCutcheon, Devon Van Cura, Ethan Wissler, Kenny Yanovich as well as affiliate club member Shannon Dougherty were recognized. Penn State will now prep for the 2018 Big Ten Championships on March 3-4 in East Lansing, Mich. The duo battled evenly for the first minute before Keener worked his way around behind Patrick for a takedown. The Buffalo bench immediately challenged the takedown, looking for an official review. The call stood and Keener led 2-1 early. Keener kept up the offensive pressure, forcing Patrick back on his heels for the rest of the opening period and led by one after one. The Lion senior chose down to start the second period and quickly escaped to a 3-1 lead. He then scrambled through a high double for another takedown and a 5-1 lead just seconds into the second period. Patrick escaped to a 5-2 score with 1:30 on the clock and Keener continued to pressure the Bull for the rest of the period. Patrick's defense kept Keener from scoring but the Nittany Lion led 5-2 after two. Patrick chose down to start the third period and escaped to a 5-3 Keener lead at the 1:30 mark. The Lion ducked under Patrick for a nifty takedown on the edge of the mat and led 7-3 with over 1:00 riding time with :52 left in the bout. Keener finished on top and, with 1:52 in riding time, posted the strong 8-3 win. 141: True freshman Nick Lee (Evansville, Ind.), ranked No. 8 at 141, took on Nick Cassella. Lee used a high single to work his way to an early takedown just :20 into the bout. Lee cut Cassella loose and then quickly scored again to lead 4-1 at the 2:10 mark. The Lion freshman cut the Bull loose once again and ducked under Cassella for a third takedown and a 6-2 lead with 1:32 on the clock. Lee built up over 1:30 in riding time before cutting him loose again and then notched a fourth takedown just a second later to lead 8-3. Lee forced Cassella into a stall warning and then rolled the Bull over for four back points as the period ended to lead 12-3 after one. Cassella chose down to start the second period and escaped to a 12-4 score. Lee rolled through a low double for a takedown and a 14-4 lead with 1:40 on the clock. He worked Cassella's shoulders over to the mat, readjusted himself once, then a second time, a third time and got the pin at the 4:37 mark. 149: Senior Zain Retherford (Benton, Pa.), ranked No. 1 at 149, competed for one final time in front of a Rec Hall dual meet crowd against Buffalo's Nick Palumbo. Retherford used a high double for a quick takedown at the 2:46 mark to open up a 2-1 lead. The Lion senior pulled Palumbo down by his arm for a second takedown with 1:50 on the clock, cut him loose to a 4-2 score, and then notched a third takedown off a high double with 1:30 left in the opening period. Retherford then turned Palumbo to his back, steadied himself on top, and picked up four near fall points to lead 10-3 at the 1:00 mark. Retherford notched a fourth takedown at the :30 mark and led 12-3 after the opening period. Palumbo chose neutral to start the second period and Retherford quickly took him down for a 14-3 lead. He then rolled Palumbo for two back points, readjusted and turned him one more time. The Lion senior, in his final dual in Rec Hall, picked up the pin at the 4:10 mark. 157: With No. 1 Jason Nolf (Yatesboro, Pa.) held out one more time at 157, red-shirt freshman Bo Pipher (Paonia, Colo.) took on Bull Eric Fasnacht. Pipher picked up the bout's first takedown, using a high single to open up a 2-0 lead at the 1:55 mark. The Lion freshman then locked up a quick cradle, turned Fasnacht to his back and picked up his first dual win as a Lion with the pin at the 1:53 mark. 165: Sophomore Vincenzo Joseph (Pittsburgh, Pa.), ranked No. 3 at 165, met Noah Grover. Joseph scored just three seconds into the bout, taking a 2-1 lead after cutting Grover loose. He countered a slight Grover shot, reset action on the Nittany Lion log and then rolled through a double leg for a 4-1 lead with 2:10 on the clock. Joseph then built up nearly 1:00 in riding time, turned Grover for four back points and cut the Bull loose to an 8-2 lead. Another high double gave Joseph a 10-3 lead at the 1:00 mark. Joseph tried to toss Grover, but the Bull countered for a takedown and two back points to cut Joseph's lead to 10-7 after one period. The Lion chose down to start the second period and quickly escaped to an 11-7 lead. Joseph battled in the middle of the mat, fighting off a takedown attempt at the :30 mark, then taking the Bull down with :15 left to lead 13-7 after two periods. Grover chose down to start the third period and Joseph cut him loose to a 13-8 score. With 1:00 in riding time in his pocket, the Lion sophomore turned a low single into a takedown and a 15-8 lead at the 1:10 mark. Joseph clinched the riding time point and then broke Grover down to finish off the rideout and post a strong 16-8 major with 2:14 in riding time. 174: Sophomore Mark Hall (Apple Valley, Minn.), ranked No. 2 at 174, battled Derek Holcomb. Hall looked to score early, fought off a Holcomb counter, and then locked up Holcomb's shoulders and head, tossed him to the mat and, after a bit of work, picked up Penn State's fourth pin of the dual at the :56 mark. 184: Junior Bo Nickal (Allen, Texas), ranked No. 1 at 184, met Buffalo junior Brett Perry. Nickal wasted no time posting Penn State's fastest pin of the year. He took Perry down off the opening whistle, turned the Bull to his back and picked up the pin just 0:11 into the bout. 197: Junior Shakur Rasheed (Coram, N.Y.), ranked No. 5 at 197, faced off against senior Joe Ariola. Rasheed quickly took Ariola down, worked his way into control of a cradle and picked up two near fall points to lead 4-0 in the opening :40. After a reset at the 1:54 mark, Rasheed worked top control into another near turn attempt but the Buffalo senior was able to fight off the back points. Rasheed then adjusted, quickly locked up another cradle and this time got the fall at the 1:57 mark. 285: Junior Nick Nevills (Clovis, Calif.), ranked No. 4 at 285, met Nolan Terrance. Nevills used a high single to open up an early 2-0 lead over Terrance. The Lion junior used a strong ride to build up some riding time and then turned the Bull for a four-count to lead 6-0 at the 1:45 mark. Nevills forced Terrance into a stall warning at the 1:10 mark and then cut the Bull loose to a 6-1 score. Nevills used another high single to take Terrance down and to his back. He then settled in for the pin, getting the fall at the 2:48 mark.

PHILADELPHIA -- The No. 25 Drexel wrestling team retained the Cheesesteak Trophy for the third straight year on Senior Night Saturday with a 30-9 win over Penn at the Daskalakis Athletic Center. The Dragons closed the regular season at 12-4 (6-4 EIWA), while Penn fell to 9-8 (6-6 EIWA). Starting at 141 pounds, the Dragons and Quakers traded the first four matches. However, the Dragons held tough and used a bonus-point win at 174 and a decision at 184 to vault themselves into the lead before taking control by closing out with forfeits at heavyweight and 125 pounds and a tech fall at 133. Julian Flores by riding out Gianni Ghione for a 2-1 win at 141 pounds. After dropping a decision at 149 pounds, No. 22 Garett Hammond outlasted Joe Velliquette at 157 pounds, 8-7. After Penn tied it again with a decision at 165 pounds in sudden victory, No. 32 Austin Rose took control of his match and worked his way to a 17-7 major decision over Brian Krasowski at 174 pounds. At 184 pounds, No. 26 Alex DeCiantis held off Joe Heyob for a 7-4 win. The 197-pound match proved one of the closest matches as Penn's No. 9 Frank Mattiace outlasted No. 17 Stephen Loiseau, 4-3. In the heavyweight match, Josh Murphy found himself trailing Tyler Hall, 3-1, in the third. However, a late takedown tied the match at 3-3, and the takedown injured Hall, forcing him to medically forfeit the match with 20 seconds remaining. After Penn forfeited 125 pounds, No. 4 Austin DeSanto worked one of his signature first-period technical falls, dominating Tristan DiVincenzo, 21-3, in just 1:48 of action. WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Victories by American University's three seniors - Brett Dempsey, Jeric Kasunic and Michael Eckhart - lifted the Eagles to a 20-12 dual-match wrestling win over Ohio University Saturday on Senior Night at Bender Arena. The Eagles ended the regular season with an 8-6 record overall, matching the highest number of wins in a season under head coach Teague Moore. It marks the third time the Eagles reached eight dual wins under Moore. The Bobcats fell to 4-7 overall. An 11-2 major decision by AU's Gage Curry in the opening bout gave the Eagles the early lead. Curry led 4-1 and 6-2 after the first two periods and earned the extra team point with a late takedown and riding time in the third. The Bobcats won the next two bouts, including a 9-3 win by 16th-ranked Cameron Kelly over No. 9 Josh Terao at 133, to take a 6-4 lead. Michael Sprague got a reversal in the third period and used a riding-time point for a 3-0 win at 149 to put the Eagles back ahead 7-6. Eric Hong then won the 157-pound matchup, getting a takedown with 10 seconds left for a 3-2 win. Ohio pulled back within 10-9 at 165 before Eckhart got a 7-2 win at 174. Eckhart led 2-0 and 3-2 after the first two periods, and put away the victory with a third-period takedown to win his third match in his last four outings. The Bobcats again pulled within a team point after a win at 184. But Kasunic used a six-point first period to earn an 11-2 major decision. He earned his 30th win of the season, extended his winning streak to 20 and came within three victories of becoming only the eighth Eagle ever to reach 100 career victories. Dempsey closed out the dual with a 3-1 win in the first overtime period, snaring a takedown at the edge of the mat with just seconds left to pick up his eighth straight victory. American will be off next weekend in preparation for the Eastern Intercollegiate Wrestling Association Championships, hosted by Hofstra on March 3 and 4. Missouri's Grant Leeth defeated Max Thomsen 4-3 at 149 pounds (Photo/Mark Lundy, Lutte-Lens.com) CEDAR FALLS, Iowa -- No. 3 Mizzou Wrestling (19-0, 7-0 MAC) closed the regular season portion of its schedule with a 23-9 road win over No. 13 Northern Iowa on Saturday afternoon at the West Gymnasium in Cedar Falls, Iowa. With the win, Mizzou finishes the regular season with a perfect 19-0 mark in duals, the second time in program history the Tigers have finished a season with a perfect record. Mizzou also posted a perfect season in 2014-15, when the Tigers went 24-0 en route to a NWCA National Duals title. Mizzou's win over the No. 13-ranked Panthers marked its eighth win over a ranked opponent this season, the most since the Tigers defeated nine ranked opponents in 2014-15. Four Tigers closed the season with a perfect record in dual competition. Redshirt junior 174-pounder Daniel Lewis (Blue Springs, Mo.) went 18-0 and redshirt senior 157-pounder Joey Lavallee (Reno, Nev.) went 17-0, while redshirt sophomore 141-pounder Jaydin Eierman (Columbia, Mo.) and redshirt junior 149-pounder Grant Leeth (Kearney, MO.) each went 16-0. With the win, Erneste improves to 8-2 against ranked opponents and 19-2 overall with nine wins coming by bonus points. Perhaps equally as impressive, Leeth scored a takedown with four seconds remaining in the match to beat No. 8-ranked Max Thomsen, 4-3. EWISBURG, Pa. -- The Bloomsburg University wrestling team came back from a 20-13 deficit to upend Bucknell on their Senior Night at Sojka Pavilion Saturday night (Feb. 17). At the second Mat Town Open hosted by Lock Haven University, both Anthony Vetrano (Middletown, N.J./Middletown North) and Saul Wilkins IV (Wilkes-Barre, Pa./GAR Memorial) placed in their respective weight classes. Vetrano won the 174-pound weight class going 2-0 on the day, while Wilkins finished third in the 285-pound bracket going 3-1. Willy Girard (Williamstown, Pa/Williams Valley) got the Huskies off on the right foot in the dual match, winning by major decision 12-0 at 125 pounds over Mike Macklin. He scored six in the first period with a takedown and four nearfall points, before holding that same lead through two periods. He went on to score another six points in the third to notch the major decision. Andy Schutz (Exeter, Pa./Wyoming Area) extended the Huskies lead to 7-0 with a gritty 4-3 win at 133 pounds over David Campbell. After a scoreless first period, Schutz scored the first points with a reversal before Campbell would escape to cut the lead to one. Schutz would secure another takedown from the neutral position before Campbell would escape again, leaving the match at 4-2 headed to the third. Campbell was able to score one point by another escape in the third, but Schutz was able to hang on for the win. #14 Tyler Smith got the Bison on the board with a 25-11 major decision over Shawn Orem (Pasadena, Md./Mount Saint Joseph) at 141 pounds. Orem's extra effort spoiled a would-be technical fall and therefore an extra team point for Smith Bucknell. The Bison would take a 10-6 lead at 149 pounds when Joey Gould pinned Braden Stahlnecker (Hughesville, Pa./Hughesville) in 3:23, before Bloomsburg would re-gain its lead with a win by fall by Kevin Laubach Jr. (Berwick, Pa./Berwick) at 157 pounds. After a scoreless first period, a Laubach escape was the only scoring in the second. Laubach was able to catch Andrew Millsap leaning and get a clean shot. Off of that, Laubach got all of his momentum to one side and was able to turn Millsap to secure the fall at 6:28. The Bison would re-take their lead at the 165-pound bout when DJ Hollingshead defeated Nate Newberry (Biglerville, Pa./Biglerville) by 11-2 major decision. With the Bison leading 14-13, they would extend their lead to 20-13 with wins at 174 and 184. Nick Stephani scored a last-second 6-4 decision win over Kyle Murphy (Bridgewater, N.J./Bridgewater-Raritan) at 174, before Drew Phipps knocked off Trevor Allard (Mexico, N.Y./Mexico) by 7-4 decision at 184. In the 197-pound bout, Logan Womelsdorf (Benton, Pa./Northwest Area) would secure a 2-0 lead in the final seconds of the first with a takedown. Womelsdorf remained in control of Chad Reese for most of the second period, before using his momentum to push Reese to his back and get the fall at 4:08. The bonus-point win got the Huskies within 20-19 headed to the final bout. In the 285-pound bout, Bruce Graeber (Feasterville, Pa./Neshaminy) matched up with Brandon Stokes with the match on the line. Graeber led 1-0 after one on an infraction against Stokes, before a stall warning in the second sent the sophomore to the third up 2-0. Graeber did secure one escape in the third to get the 3-0 decision and secure the road win for the Huskies. The win improves the Huskies to 6-9 overall, while Bucknell drops to 3-14 overall with the loss. Vetrano began his day with a 6-4 decision over Frankie Guida of Bucknell (unattached), before defeating Guida by decision 5-2 to win the bracket. Wilkins's day started with a loss by fall (6:26) to Will Hilliard of Old Dominion (unattached), before rebounding to pin West Virginia's (unattached) Sean Mullican in 2:01. LANCASTER, Pa. -- With seven wins in 10 bouts, including three pins, Franklin & Marshall's wrestling team rolled to its third-straight dual win and first conference victory of the season with a dominant 37-11 decision against Sacred Heart on Saturday evening at the Mayser Center. The Diplomats improved to 4-11, 1-8 EIWA while the Pioneers fell to 2-10, 0-5 EIWA. Before the start of the match, F&M its four-member senior class of Sam Butler, Edgar Garcia, Dan Martoccio, and Josh Young. Six points went F&M's way right from the start when Sacred Heart forfeited the 125-pound matchup. Dan Martoccio (133 pounds) followed by delivering the Diplomats six points the traditional way, turning his opponent's shoulder on the mat with 49 seconds remaining in the second period for his fourth pin of the season. Brett Kulp followed with a dominant performance at 141, registering a takedown and eight nearfall point in the first period. The sophomore grappler rolled from there en route to a 16-1 tech. fall that put F&M ahead at 17-0. After two-straight Sacred Heart major decisions at 149 and 157 pounds, the Diplomat lead was nearly cut in half at 17-8. Jacob Conners snapped the streak at 165, utilizing a seven-point third period to roll to a 12-2 major decision. Josh Young kept the momentum going at 174 pounds with a 9-1 major decision win to extend the F&M lead to 25-8. The senior secured a pair of takedowns and a pair of nearfall points in the victory. A 7-3 decision win by the Pioneers at 184 pounds made it a 25-11 contest, but it was all F&M from there as the Diplomats closed out the competition with a pair of falls. The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga wrestling team posted a dominant 27-6 win at Campbell in the final dual match of the season. The Mocs finish the year with an 8-7 overall record and 5-1 in SoCon action, while Campbell dropped to 8-8 and 5-2 in league duals. The opening match was supposed to put two of the top wrestlers at 125 in the SoCon against each other. However, Campbell freshman Korbin Meink (23-9, 4-0 SoCon) was out with an injury. UTC junior Alonzo Allen (18-8, 6-1 SoCon) took advantage and posted an 18-5 major decision over Aaron Burton. Junior Chris Debien really got the Mocs rolling with his win at 133. Campbell junior Nathan Boston came into the match ranked in the top-25 in some polls. Debien used an escape and a takedown in the third period for a 5-2 win. Debein enters the SoCon Tournament with an 11-12 overall mark, 5-1 in league duals. After senior Michael Pongracz scored a win at 141, Campbell got on the board with a victory at 149. Freshman Jake Adcock scored a big win for the Mocs with a 6-5 decision over Austin Kraisser. Kraisser came into the match with a 5-1 league mark, but Adcock scored an escape late in the third for the win. Senior Chad Pyke also got into the action with an outstanding performance at 165. DURHAM, N.C. -- Duke won five of the final six bouts to overcome a 10-point deficit and upend Old Dominion 19-16 on Senior Day in Cameron Indoor Stadium. The Blue Devils outscored the Monarchs 16-3 down the stretch to finish their dual season with a victory. Duke improves to 7-7 overall on the year, while Old Dominion falls to 9-9. The Blue Devils recognized their three seniors -- Thayer Atkins, Luke Farinaro and Jacob Kasper -- prior to the match. Old Dominion got off to a fast start out of the gates, jumping to a 13-3 lead after four matches. Josh Finesilver put the Blue Devils on the scoreboard with a 9-2 decision at 133 pounds. The rookie picked up his 20th win of the season, controlling the entire match against Caleb Richardson as he just missed earning the major decision. Leading 4-2 after two periods, Josh was outstanding in the third with five unanswered for the 9-2 victory. Mitch Finesilver added three more points to the scoreboard for Duke, notching a 9-3 decision over Larry Early. In a rematch of the Hokie Open final, Mitch scored first and built his lead to 6-2 after two periods. The redshirt junior scored another takedown in search of the major decision and came up just shy as Early defended well in the final seconds. The win was the 26th for Mitch this season. Duke's win by Mitch sparked the Blue Devils' three-match win streak that pulled the Blue Devils within two, 13-11 with three bouts remaining. The trio of Finesilvers - Mitch, Zach and Matt - wrestling at 157, 165 and 174 all emerged victorious. Zach followed Mitch with a strong performance at 165 with an 8-4 decision over Shane Jones. Leading 8-2 in the third period, Zach was looking for the major decision, but a late takedown from Jones kept Duke to just three points. At 174 pounds, Matt resumed his winning ways with a gutsy 4-3 victory over junior Seldon Wright. All even 2-2 after two periods, Matt got to his offense in the third and scored a takedown for the 4-2 lead. Wright escaped to pull within one, but couldn't get anything else going en route to his 23rd win of the year. Old Dominion, leading 13-11, extended its lead to five with a 3-1 decision at 184 pounds, but it was all Blue Devils in the final two bouts for the win. Alec Schenk sparked the final push at 197, with a 10-2 major decision over Noah Bushman. Scoreless after the first period, Schenk escaped and scored the takedown within seconds of each other for the 3-0 lead. He tacked on three more points to build a 6-1 lead after two and cruised through the third period for the four team points. Kasper left nothing in doubt with the dual on the line, capturing his 32nd victory of the season with a 14-2 major decision. The veteran heavyweight led 2-0 after the first period and proceeded to turn Ali Wahab multiple times to post his eighth major decision of the year. He is now five wins shy of breaking the Duke single-season mark and has 101 for his career. CLEVELAND, Ohio -- The Edinboro wrestling team wrapped up the regular season with a 33-11 win over Cleveland State on Saturday afternoon at Woodling Gymnasium to tie Rider for the EWL regular season championship. The Fighting Scots and Rider finished with identical 5-1 records in EWL duals. Edinboro finishes the year at 8-5, while Cleveland State is 3-10 and 1-5, respectively. Edinboro opened up a quick 10-0 with back-to-back technical falls from nationally-ranked lightweights Sean Russell and Korbin Myers. Russell, ranked tenth at 125 lbs. by InterMat, won a 21-6 technical fall at 4:24 over John Martin (1-9). The redshirt junior finished with eight takedowns while improving to 26-5. Myers followed with an 18-3 technical fall at 7:00 over Andrew Coghill (6-18) at 133 lbs. Ranked 17th, the redshirt sophomore led 4-1 after the first period, but dominated the rest of the way. He finished with six takedowns along with a pair of tilts good for six points. Myers is now 24-9. Cleveland State made things much more interesting with wins in three of the next four bouts. Evan Cheek (21-9) pinned Nate Hagan (10-18) at 2:42 in the 141 lb. match and Ryan Ford (10-15) followed with a 7-5 decision over Jensen Lorea (4-12) at 149 lbs. The Vikings closed to 10-9 after those two wins. Andrew Shomers boosted Edinboro's lead to 15-9 with the third technical fall of the day, this one coming via a 19-0 win at 7:00 over Ryan Montgomery at 157 lbs. Shomers, a redshirt sophomore, is now 27-5 after finishing strong with a pair of four-point near falls in the third period. CSU's George Poullas pulled the Vikings to within 15-12 with a 14-8 decision over Fritz Hoehn at 165 lbs. The freshman is now 10-12, with Hoehn at 13-13. Redshirt senior Ty Schoffstall (19-2) would claim a wild 18-12 decision over Gabe Stark (11-13) at 174 lbs., as the Fighting Scots won the last four matches. Schoffstall fell behind early on a Stark takedown, but would lead 8-4 after one period thanks to a takedown and four back points. It was 10-8 after two periods, and Schoffstall then closed out the win with three of his five takedowns in the third period. Cleveland State was then deducted one team point for unsportsmanlike conduct following the match, giving Edinboro a 21-11 lead. Freshman Zach Ancewicz came up with a big, and long, win at 184 lbs. He battled Nick Corba (22-9) into a second sudden victory session as the two wrestled for close to ten minutes. Ancewicz would prevail 4-2 thaks to a takedown with 37 seconds remaining. The two had previously exchanged escapes in the second and third periods, plus the first tiebreaker. Ancewicz is now 11-13. Dylan Reynolds picked up his second fall of the season to improve to 9-10 in his 197 lbs. bout. The redshirt sophomore pinned John Kelby (10-15) at 5:41. The match was tied at 4-4 early in the third period after two near fall points for Kelby, but Reynolds' reversal led to the winning pin. Jon Spaulding stepped in for starter Billy Miller at heavyweight and posted a 12-4 major decision over Collin Kelly (4-19) at heavyweight. Senior Jordan Reich knew he had one match left in Dillon Gym, and he wanted to make it a memorable seven minutes. Instead, he made it an incredible 70 seconds. Reich ignited an impressive 28-15 win for Princeton in its 2018 Ivy League finale over Penn with a first-period fall, and his teammates followed his lead with one their most complete efforts of the season. A technical fall by Matthew Gancayco and a thrilling Top-20 win for freshman Patrick Brucki over the reigning EIWA champion were among the highlights for Princeton Saturday afternoon, a win that gave Princeton its third-straight second-place finish in the Ivy League. Reich started his final home weekend in style, as he put Thomas DiGiovanni to the mat seconds into their opening match at 141, and he followed with four quick back points to lead 6-0. Reich was determined for more, and he turned Thomas DiGiovanni again seconds later. This time, he kept pressure on the upper body until he earned the fall at the 1:10 mark. That fall was an ideal lead in to the power duo of 12th-ranked Matthew Kolodzik and 13th-ranked Mike D'Angelo, both of whom were in full control of their matches. Kolodzik topped Patrick Munn 12-3 for his 19th win of the year, while D'Angelo picked up the 19th of his season with an 11-1 victory over Joseph Velliquette. One of the featured matches of the afternoon lived up to the hype at 165, as 17th-ranked May Bethea of Penn took on Princeton's three-time NCAA qualifier Jonathan Schleifer. Bethea had early control with a six-point move, but Schleifer hit a four-point move of his own in the second period to get right back into the match. Schleifer added a pair of takedowns the rest of the way and a riding time point to make it all the way back to overtime, but Bethea had the final answer in OT for a 10-8 win. Gancayco made sure the momentum was short-lived for Penn, as he turned Quinton Hiles to his back multiple times in an 18-3 technical fall at 174. Gancayco actually trailed 2-0 early, but he turned it on from there to grab full control. Hiles tried to hold on for the major, but Gancayco hit a quick shot on a restart late in the third period to secure the five team points. Sophomore Kevin Parker followed with an aggressive performance against Penn veteran Joe Heyob. Parker hit the first takedown of the match and had another in the third period to get within one point, but Heyob was able to hold on for the 12-7 win. The second featured match of the day came at 197, and it also lived up to expectations. Brucki, who scored a number of early-period takedowns last weekend against 3rd-ranked Ben Darmstadt, did it again Saturday against 9th-ranked and reigning EIWA champion Frank Mattiace. Brucki got around the waist and was able to trip Mattiace just inside the edge of the mat for a 2-0 lead less than 20 seconds into the match. Mattiace got the escape and rode Brucki for more than a minute in the second period before the Princeton freshman escaped. That gave Brucki a 3-1 lead, but it also forced him to ride Mattiace long enough to get rid of the ride time point that could force overtime. Once again, Brucki was up for the challenge; he cut riding time to only 57 seconds before giving up the escape, and then he scrambled for the final minute with the Quaker veteran without allowing the go-ahead takedown. Tiger heavyweight Christian Araneo continued his return from a midseason injury and was able to grab an early lead over Penn's Tyler Hall, but Hall was able to get back points and riding time to pull out a 7-6 win. Princeton got a forfeit at 125, and Giovanni Ghione scored a fall at 6:09 in the finale at 133 to finish a 28-15 Princeton victory. The Tigers will wrestle in their 2017-18 regular season finale Sunday at 1 pm against Rutgers in Dillon Gym. The all-time series is fairly close (Rutgers leads 42-33-5), but the Scarlet Knights have dominated it in recent years. Rutgers has won the last 21 matchups, including the 2016 "Battle at the Birthplace" when the Scarlet Knights claimed a tight 19-16 win in front of more than 16,000 fans at High Point Solutions Stadium. The Scarlet Knights, who defeated Wisconsin 24-12 Friday, bring a 7-7 record into Jadwin and have a loaded starting lineup that has been tested by the gauntlet of a Big Ten schedule. Of course, Princeton can put its schedule up against any team in the country, as seven of its eight losses have come to Top-25 programs. Rutgers has five nationally ranked starters, including New Jersey native Nick Suriano, the Penn State transfer who is 20-0 on the season and ranked #1 at 125. #7 Richie Lewis is 12-3 at 165 and is set to face Schleifer, while 12th-ranked Nicholas Gravina is 12-3 at 184 and could be the opponent for Parker. The highlight match is expected to come at 149, as Princeton All-American Matthew Kolodzik (18-5) is ranked #12 nationally, one spot behind Rutgers senior Eleazar DeLuca (9-7). This will be the first collegiate meeting between the two. Sunday will also be Senior Day for Princeton, which will honor Trey Aslanian, Francesco Fabozzi, Michael Markulec, Jordan Reich, and Schleifer prior to the match. Fans will want to arrive early for more than just the Senior Day festivities, as the first 250 in attendance will receive a Princeton Wrestling bobblehead. OREM, UT -- Northern Colorado wrestling ended its losing streak on Friday night after defeating Utah Valley 22-20. The Bears were able get enough separation with the Wolverines when Rico Montoya delivered a major decision victory to put UNC up 22-13. The dual started in the 157 lb weight class with Tyler Kinn going against Raider Lofthouse. Kinn did not let the match go past the first period after pinning Lofthouse at 1:42. UNC opened up a 6-0 lead on Utah Valley. Keilan Torres won before ever stepping on the mat when the Wolverines forfeited in the 165 lb weight class. UNC found itself up 12-0 after only two matches. Now in the 174 lb weight class, Sethan Bogulski faced No. 17 Kimball Bastian. In the first period, Bastian managed two takedowns on Bogulski for a 4-1 lead. A reversal in the second period gave Bastian a 6-1 advantage going to the final period. Bastian put the match away in the third with two takedowns and added a riding time point for a 12-3 major decision win. Utah Valley was on the board, trailing 12-4. Dylan Gabel was on the mat in the 184 lb weight class and he went against Will Sumner. Gabel scored a takedown on Sumner, but was had a penalty go against him for a 2-1 lead after the first period. Gabel kept the pressure on in the second, adding an escape for a 3-1 lead over Sumner. Gabel pulled away in the third period with a takedown and reversal for a 6-1 decision win. UNC was back at a double-digit lead, 15-4. In the 197 lb weight class, Tanner Davis would meet Tanner Orndorff. Early in the first period, Orndorff scored a takedown and a two-point near fall, followed by another takedown for a 6-1 lead. Orndorff would score two more takedowns, before pinning Davis at 4:43. The lead for UNC was cut in half after the fall made it 15-10 going to the intermission. Out of the break, Robert Winters Jr. battled Dustin Dennison in the heavyweight class. Winters earned the lead when Dennison was hit with a penalty in the first period. An escape in the second period would give Winters a 2-0 advantage, but was hit with his own penalty for a 2-1 lead heading to the third. Dennison would get an escape in the third period to force an overtime period in the match with the score tied at two. A takedown on Winters would give Dennison the 4-2 sudden victory and UNC was down to 15-13. Sean Cannon faced off against Josh Jensen in the 125 lb weight class. Cannon and Jensem wrestled to a 4-4 tie after the first period, exchanging takedowns on each other. In the second period, Cannon pulled ahead with two takedowns and an escape for a 9-6 lead. Cannon would add a riding time point in the third period for a 10-7 decision win. UNC got some breathing room from Utah Valley with an 18-13 lead. Montoya went against Jarod Maynes in the 133 lb weight class. The match was scoreless after the first period, but Montoya would take the lead in the second with a takedown on Maynes. Montoya's offense exploded in the third period, with four takedowns and a two-point near fall. The riding time bonus would hand Montoya a 14-4 major decision victory and UNC had a 22-13 advantage over the Wolverines. There were still two matches left in the dual and Benjamin Polkowske was up in the 141 lb weight class against Matt Findlay. Findlay raced out to a 4-1 lead in the first period with a pair of takedowns on Polkowske. In the second period, Findlay would add another takedown and another in the third period, plus riding time to win 10-2 over Polkowske for a major decision. UNC still had a 22-17 lead over Utah Valley. The final match of the night had Jimmy Fate going up against Matthew Ontiveros in the 149 lb weight class. Neither Fate or Ontiverios managed to score anything in the first period and the two moved onto the second. Fate took the lead with a takedown on Ontiveros for a 2-1 advantage. In the final period, Ontiveros scored a two-point near fall and Fate was tagged with a penalty. Ontiveros added a riding time point to defeat Fate in a 5-2 decision. Northern Colorado hung on for the 22-20 dual victory and improved its record to 3-9 and 2-5 in conference play with one final dual this season against Air Force. Utah Valley fell to 8-6 overall and 4-4 in the Big 12. The Wolverines received votes in the coaches poll this week after falling out of the rankings last week. Stanford, Calif. -- Colton McCrystal (149) and Isaiah White (165) won bonus points for Nebraska in two of the first three matches, and the 14th-ranked Cornhuskers held off a late Stanford rally to win a 23-14 decision Friday at Maples Pavilion. Nebraska closes the dual season with a record of 10-4, as the Huskers reach double-digit wins in duals for the eighth-consecutive season and the 16th time in 18 seasons under Head Coach Mark Manning. Stanford falls to 7-5 on the year. Ninth-ranked McCrystal got the Huskers started with a pin in less than a minute, as he put Jake Barry on his back in 41 seconds for his quickest pin of the season. McCrystal improves to 17-3 overall and 10-2 in duals, as he earned his 30th-career win in dual meets on Saturday night. Tyler Berger continued the Husker momentum, as he rebounded from an early deficit for a 3-2 decision over All-American Paul Fox, aided by a second-period rideout. The 11th-ranked Berger has won eight of his last 10 duals and is 18-6 on the year and 9-4 in duals Isaiah White found bonus points for the Big Red, as he racked up seven takedowns and a pair of nearfalls to cruise to a 21-5 technical fall over Jared Hill in just 3:17. White has now accumulated 44 takedowns in dual meets, and has been taken down just twice as he improves to 11-2 in duals and 20-4 overall. Taylor Venz also joined the 20-win club on Friday, as he was tough on top in the third period to seal a 7-3 decision over Austin Flores. Venz scored a pair of takedowns and a reversal in the bout, and is now 20-5 on the year and 10-4 in duals. With Nebraska leading 17-5 at halftime, Eric Schultz picked up right where the Huskers left off, as the redshirt freshman won a 9-4 decision over Cole DePasquale to improve to 15-7 on the season and 10-4 in duals. Heading into the final bout of the night, NU clung to a 20-14 lead, but Chad Red Jr. stamped out Stanford's glimmer of hope with a 7-2 decision over Isaiah Locsin to clinch the dual for Nebraska. Stanford's two ranked wrestlers picked up wins Saturday, as ninth-ranked Keaton Subjeck of Stanford won an 18-3 technical fall over Eric Engler at 174 pounds, and eighth-ranked Nathan Butler defeated David Jensen by a 7-3 decision. The Cardinal won back-to-back bouts at 125 and 133 before Red clinched the dual. At 125 pounds, Stanford's Gabriel Townsell won a 10-4 decision over Mitchell Maginnis, while Mason Pengilly scored a takedown and a four-point nearfall in the first sudden-victory period for a 7-1 win over No. 19 Jason Renteria. Nebraska will have a week off from competition before the 2018 Big Ten Championships, held March 3-4 at the Breslin Center in East Lansing, Mich.
