DAVIDSON, N.C. -- Setting the tone with an aggressive start, Appalachian State Wrestling posted a 43-0 shutout of Davidson on Tuesday in Belk Arena. With the win, App State (7-6, 4-1 SoCon) can clinch a share of a fourth straight conference title by beating The Citadel (1-8, 1-2) on Sunday afternoon in the home finale at Varsity Gym. The Mountaineers, who are unofficially No. 28 in the latest NWCA Coaches Poll with four voting points, recorded wins in all 10 matches against Davidson and earned bonus points in seven of them. App State seniors Irvin Enriquez (141 pounds) and Michael Elliott (165) had pins, and there were four major decisions. Starting the night at 174 pounds, Appalachian received major decisions from Thomas Flitz (13-4 against Noah Satterfield), Alan Clothier (12-3 at 184 against Conor Fenn) and Randall Diabe (12-3 at 197 against Finlay Holston) before Cary Miller added a 6-2 decision against Mitchell Trigg in the heavyweight division. Those four wrestlers combined for 17 takedowns without allowing a takedown, as Flitz had one in the first 40 seconds, Clothier had one in the first 30 seconds and Miller had one in the first 20 seconds en route to his 50th career win in an App State uniform. In all, the Mountaineers were on the wrong end of just one takedown. De'Andre Swinson Barr's win by forfeit at 125 pounds increased the advantage in the team score to 21-0, and Codi Russell was tied at 3-all with Kyle Gorant after one period before pulling away in a 13-5 major decision at 133 pounds. Gorant entered the night with a 13-8 record. Enriquez recorded his fifth win by fall of the season as the first period ended against Caleb Ziebell, and Matt Zovistoski followed with an 8-2 decision against Aidan Conroy at 149. Angel Najar shut out Tony Palumbo, who entered the dual with double-digit wins, in a 4-0 decision at 157 leading up to Elliott's dual-ending pin of Hunter Costa in 3:50. Boiling Springs, N.C. -- The VMI wrestling team had wins in five weight classes Tuesday night and scored a 21-19 Southern Conference victory at Gardner-Webb University. The competition started with the 165 pounders, and the Keydets and the Bulldogs traded pins in the first two bouts. Red-shirt junior Neal Richards, ranked #19 at 174 lbs., pinned Kyle Homet in 5:28 for his 17th-straight victory on the season. Max Gallahan won 4-0 at 184 and Tre Momon earned a 4-2 victory at 285. Derek Shockey won his match at 125 by forfeit and Dom Gallo's 4-3 decision at 141 provided the margin of victory and give VMI its second conference win on the season. Chris Beck was defeated by a single point and 197 and Zach Schmitt lost just 7-5 at 149. Sarah Hildebrandt will compete for Team USA at Hollywood Wrestles Bollywood (Photo/Tony Rotundo, WrestlersAreWarriors.com) LOS ANGELES -- Stars of the United States Women's Wrestling National Team are scheduled to face off against powerhouse India at Hollywood Wrestles Bollywood March 31 at the Wiltern Theatre in Los Angeles. The dual match will be featured as part of Beat the Streets Los Angeles' 5th Annual Benefit and International Competition, a yearly fundraising and awareness event for the LA-based wrestling non-profit. "Beat the Streets Los Angeles is honored to continue the tradition of showcasing the world's greatest female wrestlers and inspiring the rising generation of wrestlers in Los Angeles and beyond," said Yero Washington, Executive Director of Beat the Streets Los Angeles. "We are especially excited to host such a fantastic roster of American women and top-level opponents from India." Headlining the U.S. roster will be five past senior-level world medalists, including four-time world champion Adeline Gray, who won her most recent world title in October at the 2018 Senior World Championships in Budapest. Gray will compete at 76 kilograms. Included in the lineup are three other 2018 world medalists from the U.S. -- world silver medalist Sarah Hildebrandt at 53 kilograms, and world bronze medalists Mallory Velte and Tamyra Mensah-Stock at 62 kilograms and 68 kilograms, respectively. Also competing is two-time world silver medalist Alli Ragan at 59 kilograms. Ragan won the 2018 World Team spot via a Final X championship but did not compete at the World Championships due to an injury. Replacing Ragan in Budapest was two-time World Team member Jenna Burkert, who will enter the Hollywood Wrestles Bollywood lineup at 57 kilograms. Team USA's squad will also include Jacarra Winchester and Forrest Molinari who each placed fifth at the 2018 World Championship. Four-time Senior World Team member Whitney Conder and multiple-time age-group World Team member Rachel Watters will round out the lineup for the American side. The Indian women's wrestling is coming off one of its strongest seasons in history with their wrestlers winning gold at the Asian Games, Commonwealth Games and Asian Championships. The postseason is less than a month away. But before we get ahead of ourselves, there are eight ranked dual meets that we get the pleasure of enjoying this weekend. There will be 25 individual ranked matches in those eight duals, with a pair of team meetings having at least six ranked matchups. But without question, this weekend's dual slate is highlighted by Saturday's dual between Oklahoma State and Missouri, who combine for an undefeated 28-0 record. Friday No. 10 North Carolina State at No. 13 North Carolina (6 p.m.) The No. 10 Wolfpack are set to make the short 20-minute journey to Chapel Hill with hopes of winning their sixth consecutive dual and hand their in-state rivals, the No. 13-ranked Tar Heels, their first conference loss of the season. The Tar Heels are 2-0 in the ACC, while the Wolfpack are 2-1 and are looking to rebound after being upset 18-16 in last weekend's dual against No. 15 Pittsburgh. There will be a pair of ranked matches in this dual, but the match to watch will be at 149 pounds where fourth-ranked Austin O'Connor (UNC) will clash with former All-American Justin Oliver (NC State) who is ranked eighth in the nation. This will be the first time both of these wrestlers compete in the in-state rivalry dual and will be the first time that they've met in their college careers. Another potential matchup of ranked wrestlers could take place at 133 pounds between All-American and seventh-ranked Tariq Wilson (NC State) and No. 20 Gary Wayne Harding (UNC). Other ranked dual: No. 7 Cornell at No. 14 Virginia Tech (6 p.m.) Saturday No. 2 Oklahoma State at No. 5 Missouri (3:30 p.m.) The second-ranked Cowboys travel to the Hearnes Center in Columbia (Mo.) looking to hand the fifth-ranked Tigers their first loss of the season. The pair have split their last two duals, but Oklahoma State is trying to exact revenge after the Tigers went into Stillwater and knocked off the Cowboys 21-19 a season ago. The Cowboys and Tigers both carry undefeated records into this rivalry and combine for a 28-0 record. Coach John's Smith's Cowboys picked up their 13th consecutive victory last weekend, shutting out Air Force 39-0. Coach Brian Smith's Tigers grabbed their 15th win of the season and 35th straight dual meet win with a 30-12 thumping of the Arizona State Sun Devils. There will six ranked matchups, highlighted by a trio of top-10 matches. The three top-10 showdowns come at 133 pounds, 141 pounds, and 174 pounds respectively. Of the three star-studded matches, the most intriguing matchup comes at 174 pounds, where second-ranked Daniel Lewis (Missouri) will try to keep his hot streak rolling and keep sixth-ranked Joe Smith (Oklahoma State) from getting back to his winning ways. Lewis is coming off arguably the biggest win of his storied career. Last weekend, the three-time All-American pinned Arizona State's reigning NCAA champion Zahid Valencia and improved to 19-1 on the season. His lone loss came to Michigan's fourth-ranked Myles Amine at the Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invitational. His opponent, Joe Smith, is 14-3 on the season and is squaring off against his third straight top-10 opponent. Smith is riding a two-match losing streak after dropping his last two matches to No. 5 Jordan Kutler (Lehigh) and No. 8 Taylor Lujan (Northern Iowa). At 133 pounds, No. 13 Chas Tucker (Cornell) vs. No. 20 Gary Wayne Harding (UNC), and at 184 pounds, returning All-Americans No. 13-ranked Max Dean (Cornell) will take on No. 14 Chip Ness (UNC). Micic, the top-ranked 133-pounder in the nation, will go toe-to-toe against fellow NCAA runner-up from a season ago, No. 4-ranked Nick Suriano (Rutgers). Micic, who is 11-0 this season, is coming off a 10-4 win against the top-ranked 125-pounder in the nation Sebastian Rivera (Northwestern). Suriano, last year's NCAA finalist at 125 pounds, has tallied five consecutive wins after dropping back-to-back matches to No. 2 Daton Fix (Oklahoma State) and No. 3 Austin DeSanto (Iowa). The only other ranked matchup in this dual comes at 157 where fifth-ranked Alec Pantaleo (Michigan) will wrestle No. 14 John Van Brill (Rutgers). No. 8 Nebraska at No. 6 Ohio State (2 p.m.) The Ohio State Buckeyes welcome the second straight top-10 team to St. John Arena when coach Manning's eighth-ranked Nebraska Cornhuskers invade Columbus for a top-10 Big Ten clash. Of the weekend-leading eight top-20 matches in one dual, the 184-pound match between top-ranked Myles Martin (Ohio State) and sixth-ranked Taylor Venz (Nebraska) will be a battle to keep an eye on. Sunday's match will be the pairs third overall meeting. The previous two matches were both won by Martin, including an 11-5 victory for the Buckeyes at this season's Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invitational. Martin has won 14 straight matches since dropping last year's NCAA finals to Bo Nickal (Penn State). Most recently, Martin picked up an 18-6 major decision over Penn State's Mason Manville. On the other side of the line will be Nebraska's returning NCAA All-American, Venz, who is 17-4 on the season. Venz jumped back on the winning train last weekend after losing to Iowa's Cash Wilcke, 5-2 two weeks ago. There will be a trio of ranked matches, but the 165-pound match between second-ranked Alex Marinelli (Iowa) and third-ranked Evan Wick (Wisconsin) is the match to pay attention to. This will be the third time these two returning All-Americans have faced each other. Marinelli won their last meeting 4-3, which came at the Midlands Championships in December, but Wick won the consolation semifinals match at last year's NCAA Championships, which ultimately helped catapult him to a third-place finish. FORT WAYNE, Ind. -- Indiana Tech will be adding the sport of women's wrestling to its athletics offerings, with the goal of hiring a coach this spring and begin competition in the 2020-21 academic year, Director of Athletics Debbie Warren announced Monday. "We are excited to offer this emerging sport for women and look forward to building a winning program," Warren said. "The opportunity to compete for an NAIA national championship is something we think will make us competitive right away." Women's wrestling will become the 26th varsity program at Tech and the 12th sport to be added to the Warrior Athletics Department since 2005. Tech will compete in the NAIA, the only intercollegiate athletics association to sponsor women's wrestling, where the sport is in its first season as an invitational sport. There were 24 NAIA institutions that sponsored women's wrestling at the start of the 2018-19 season, and a number of schools have added the sport over the last six months. Tech will be the first college in the state of Indiana to offer women's wrestling to its athletics offerings. A national search for a head coach will begin immediately.

CORVALLIS, Ore. -- No. 12 Iowa State (10-2, 6-1 Big 12) went on the road and took out Oregon State (4-7, 0-1 Pac 12), 23-14 in a late night Monday showdown. The Cyclones won six out of the 10 bouts, including three by bonus-point variety with two major decision and a fall. At the intermission, the Cyclones held a 12-6 lead, having won three out of the first five bouts of the evening. Redshirt freshman No. 8 Austin Gomez took on Devan Turner of Oregon State at 133 pounds. Gomez tallied eight takedowns and led 19-6 before showing some of his freestyle prowess, throwing a cement mixer and pinning Turner in 6:14. Redshirt sophomore No. 14 Jarrett Degen and redshirt junior Chase Straw brought the Cyclones into the break with a pair of decisions at 149 and 157 pounds, respectively. Degen used a four-point nearfall in the third period to outlast Josh Reyes by 11-7 decision, and Straw dominated in an 8-3 victory over Zech Bresser, compiling 3:29 of riding time. Coming out of the break, freshman Logan Schumacher made his return to the Cyclone lineup. Schumacher trailed 2-1 heading to the third period and then gave up a reversal to Aaron Olmos. Schumacher was able to get to his feet and finish on a takedown with under 10 seconds to go in the third. In the sudden-victory period, Schumacher connected on a single leg and took the match by 6-4 decision. At 184 and 197 pounds, redshirt sophomore No. 16 Sam Colbray and redshirt senior No. 6 Willie Miklus salted away Iowa State's 10th victory of the season with back-to-back major decisions. Colbray wrestled childhood friend Bob Coleman in front of a sea of friends and family in the Hermiston, Ore., native's homecoming. Colbray notched six takedowns and an escape as he breezed to a 13-4 major decision. In Miklus' match, it took a bit for him to feel out Jamarcus Grant, but once he did, it was all Miklus. After two periods, Miklus held a 4-0 advantage. In the third, Miklus turned Grant for four nearfall points on the edge of the mat and added a late takedown to secure the major decision. He also tacked on a point with 3:21 of riding time. Next Up Some of the Iowa State wrestlers will be in action on Sunday, Feb. 17 at the Last Chance Open. The Cyclones will host that event at the Lied Recreation Center beginning at 9 a.m. on Sunday morning. NORFOLK, Va. -- The Navy wrestling team (6-2, 3-1 EIWA) opened a busy week of action Monday evening with a convincing 24-10 victory over host Old Dominion (8-6, 5-2 MAC) at the Ted Constant Center in Norfolk, Va. The Mids won seven of the 10 matches, including the first three of the evening to lead from start to finish. The Highlights • The Midshipmen improved to 6-2 in dual competition, including a 3-0 mark on the road (31-6 at Maryland, 26-9 at Bucknell, 24-10 at Old Dominion) • Tonight's match marked the 11th meeting between the two programs in a series that dates back to 1966. • Navy now leads the series, 8-3, including a 3-0 mark in matches wrestled in Norfolk. • The Midshipmen have now won two in a row against the Monarchs after posting a 26-8 win in last year's dual. • Navy never trailed in the match and led by as much as 15 (21-6 after Jared Prince's win). • Junior Jared Prince 7-4 win over Kevin Budock at 149 pounds clinched the team victory for the Mids (led 21-6 with 2 matches remaining). • Juniors Spencer Carey (174) and Joshua Roetman (197) both earned their 20th victory of the season. • Carey outscored Luke Drugac 3-1 in the third period to post a 5-2 record and give the Mids a 3-0 lead to open the evening. • Carey now stands 20-11 on the year, reaching the 20-win milestone for the first time in his career. • Roetman trailed ODU's Tim Young for most of the opening period before turning him and posting the pin at 2:47. It was his 10th career win by fall and his fifth this season. • Roetman owns a 20-7 record this season, reaching the 20-win milestone for the first time in his career. • Roetman is the ONLY Navy starter who is undefeated in dual action this season, as he is 7-0 on the year. • Anthony Cable (197) earned his third overtime victory of the year, including his second consecutive dual victory in extra minutes. Cable recorded a 4-2 win over Dean Drugac with a takedown in the second sudden victory period. • Cable is currently riding a five-match winning streak dating back to the All-Academy Championship. • Following a 4-0 win over Trevon Majette, sophomore Casey Cobb (133) improved to 22-7 on the year, including 6-2 in dual action. His 22 wins are the second most on the team. • Cobb has won six consecutive matches dating back to the Duke dual. • 17th-ranked Nicholas Gil (141) earned his second victory over 12th-ranked Sa'Darien Perry this season. Gil battled his way free for an escape deep into the third period for the go-ahead point in a 3-2 victory this evening. He also defeated Perry, 7-6, in the championship match of the Navy Classic in mid-November. • Gil leads the team with a 23-5 record this season. Meanwhile, he moved into a tie for 14th on the Mids' all-time wins list alongside Aaron Kalil (2009-12) with 101. Next on the list is 13th-place Luke Rebertus who amassed 102 wins from 2009-12. • Jared Prince (149) has now won seven straight matches dating back to the Southern Scuffle after posting a 7-4 win over Kevin Budock. • First-year starter Tanner Skidgel (165) earned a 2-0 victory over Shane Jones. After a scoreless opening period, Skidgel rode out the entire second period before earning a point for an escape to open the final stanza. • Navy has scored at least 20 points in all six of its dual victories this season. Dylan Palacio battles Iowa's Michael Kemerer in the NCAA quarterfinals (Photo/Tony Rotundo, WrestlersAreWarriors.com) Two former wrestlers with Long Island roots -- Chris Weidman and Dylan Palacio -- will be featured guests at the first-ever "Wrestling Takes Down Drugs" event Saturday, Feb. 16 at Nassau Community College Field House Gym in Garden City, Long Island, N.Y. The event runs from 9:30 a.m. - 11:30 a.m. Doors open at 8:30 a.m. There's no charge for admission. Weidman and Palacio are expected to provide wrestling instruction to participants. Nassau County Police Commissioner Patrick Ryder told CBS New York that he expects some 500-600 students to participate. Weidman, 34, former UFC middleweight (185-pound) champ, was a New York state wrestling champ for Baldwin High School on Long Island who went on become an All-American at Nassau Community College before earning NCAA All-American honors twice at Hofstra University. In his decade-long career in MMA, Weidman crafted a 14-4 record. Fellow Long Island native Palacio, a New York state mat champ for Long Beach High, went on to wrestle at Cornell University in upstate New York, where he was a two-time EIWA (Eastern Intercollegiate Wrestling Association) champ and twice an NCAA All-American. "I'm hoping that it kind of will be something that has helped me," Weidman told CBS. "Wrestling was a big part of my life for a long time. I think the main thing that helped me stay on the straight path was being goal-oriented and having these goals, not being afraid to win or lose, and learning how to do both those with class." VESTAL, N.Y. -- The Binghamton wrestling team recorded their seventh straight win after taking a pair of EIWA wins over Drexel and Hofstra in front of 271 fans Sunday afternoon. Head coach Kyle Borshoff's squad rallied for a 21-20 electric win over Drexel before handling Hofstra 30-14. "I think the guys are doing an awesome job," Borshoff said. "We keep getting a little better everyday. We just need to keep focusing on fine-tuning the little things and I think we're going to have a good finish to the regular season and look good rolling into the championships." Highlights Five Bearcats went 2-0 on the day. Anthony Sparacio, Vincent DePrez, No. 9 Lou DePrez, Audey Ashkar and Zack Trampe each won back-to-back matches. Sparacio kicked the Bearcats off against Drexel with a 14-4 major decision, his second of the season. The bonus point was one of four over the course of the match. The Dragons took the next three matches to pull ahead 12-4. Vincent DePrez and Lou DePrez combined for eight team points to tie the team score at 12. Drexel won back-to-back matches at 197 and heavyweight to pull ahead 20-12 with two matches to go. Ashkar battled for an 8-5 win over Mininno to pull the Bearcats within five. Trampe scored six takedowns over Alex Salas before pinning him at 4:27 to win the match 21-20. Anthony Sparacio recorded his ninth straight win with a forfeit at 141-pounds from Hofstra. The junior is now 21-9 overall. Frankie Garcia got his first win of the day with a 9-5 decision over Heller. Hofstra won the next two weights, but a forfeit at 174 pushed Binghamton ahead 15-9. The forfeit was Vincent DePrez's seventh straight win and career win 89. No. 9 Lou DePrez won by fall over Trey Rogers at 1:47 for his second of the season. DePrez has now won his last six out of seven matches by bonus points and his eighth straight. He leads the team with a 22-4 overall record. MADISON, Wis. -- There is no quit in this Badgers' team. Trailing 16-9 with two matches to go, No. 14 Wisconsin (8-5, 3-5 B1G) gritted out a decision and a major decision to tie the match against No. 22 Illinois (2-7, 1-6 B1G). The fate of the dual went to tiebreaker criteria, where the Badgers won on total match points by the thinnest of margins, outscoring Illinois over the course of the dual 68-66, giving Wisconsin the tiebreaker point and the victory. Through the first six matches, the dual was completely back-and-forth. Sophomore Ethan Rotondo of UW took on No. 11 Travis Piotrowski at 125 pounds to start the match. While Rotondo was never in a position to win the dual, he fought hard to limit the result to a 12-6 decision. At 133 pounds, senior Jens Lantz got Wisconsin on the board with a 5-4 decision over Dylan Duncan of Illinois, who beat Lantz when the two faced each other last season. Lantz trailed 4-3 in the third but picked up a big takedown in the final minute to secure the victory. The biggest match of the day was at 141 pounds between junior No. 8 Tristan Moran of Wisconsin and No. 4 Mike Carr of Illinois, but there wasn't a lot of fireworks in the match. Both wrestlers earned an escape to tie it at one, but there were no offensive points recorded. Carr took a 2-1 victory after a stalling penalty was assessed to Moran in the third. Junior Cole Martin of UW tied the match for the second time on the day with a comfortable 7-1 decision victory over Christian Kanzler of Illinois. After recording his first dual win last weekend, UW freshman Garrett Model was put to the test against No. 9 Eric Barone of Illinois at 157 pounds. Barone was in control early, scoring three takedowns in the first period and two more in the second, but Model wouldn't quit. He responded with three takedowns of his own in the third and if the match had gone any longer he might have come out on top, but Model ultimately dropped a 15-13 decision to No. 9 Barone. For the third time in the match, a Wisconsin wrestler tied things up again, this time at 165 pounds with No. 3 Evan Wick. He was tested early by No. 18 Joey Gunther who got on the board first with a takedown, but Wick countered by riding Gunther for the entire second period and scoring two takedowns in the third to win 9-3. Illinois broke the decision-streak in the next match. Wisconsin freshman Anders Lantz wrestled in his first dual and suffered a 12-3 major decision loss to Carver James that put the Illini up 13-9. The lead was extended for Illinois in the 184-pound match, as No. 5 Emery Parker defeated Wisconsin's junior Mason Reinhardt by a 10-4 decision, making the team score 16-9 in favor of Illinois. Wisconsin needed seven team points from the final two matches to at least tie the dual, and seven points was what they got. Sophomore Beau Breske, fresh off his first dual win for Wisconsin as well, was in a stalemate with Illinois' Andre Lee all match, taking a 1-1 score into overtime. The match went into the second sudden-victory period, where Breske shook off Lee and got a takedown to win the match. Wisconsin came into the final match trailing by four, needing at least a major decision freshman heavyweight Trent Hillger, and he delivered. Hillger racked up the points against Illinois' Deuce Rachal, scoring six takedowns in the match and earning a 16-5 major decision. Hillger's result eventually gave Wisconsin the win, as his 11-point win was critical in the two-point margin in total match points that propelled the Badgers to victory. Up next, Wisconsin will face No. 3 Iowa (12-0, 7-0 B1G) on Feb. 17 at the UW Field House at 2 p.m. Straight from the mat Head Coach Chris Bono On the comeback win: "That shows you the kind of team we have and the kind of kids we have. It was when he got reversed and he knew that he needed to reverse his opponent back to win the dual." "He went out there for his team. It's not about Trent. He loves his brothers and he loves his team. Like I've said if you go up and down the lineup, every point mattered in that duel. All 10 guys did their 10 percent and they did a great job." LARAMIE, Wyo. -- The 13th-ranked Wyoming wrestling team wrapped up its home schedule with a dominant, 32-9, victory over South Dakota State on Sunday afternoon. Prior to the dual, the team recognized seniors Branson Ashworth, Brock George and Anthony Lombardo, with each earning the opportunity to wrestle in their final home dual as Cowboys. The Cowboys (15-4, 5-2 Big 12) won seven of 10 bouts in the dual, with three wins coming with bonus points. Ashworth recorded a first-period technical fall in his final home dual, while George defeated Gregory Coapstick. "We really wanted to be in a position to wrestle our seniors," head coach Mark Branch said. "That's really gratifying for our staff to be able to send them off. Two of those guys aren't in our regular lineup and so we tried our best to insert them. Even though (Lombardo) had to give up a lot of weight there, it was still nice to give him that opportunity to wrestle in front of the home crowd. I'm pleased with that. You're not always in that position, so you cherish those kinds of moments to be able to send those guys off." The dual started at 141 pounds, where sophomore Sam Turner got things started with a 16-1 tech fall over Jackrabbit Aric Williams. Turner racked up three takedowns and three nearfalls in the bout on the way to a dominant, 16-1 win in 5:43. The tech was his second of the weekend and second of the season thus far. After South Dakota State earned a pair of decisions in the 149 and 157 pound matches, Ashworth took the mat at 165 for a match against Kelby Hawkins. The Cowboy senior didn't even need the entirety of the first period to compile a takedown and four nearfalls for his 16-0 technical fall, as he gave the Pokes the dual lead back for good in 2:39. Ashworth has won 15 bouts in a row heading into the final dual of the season next weekend. With Sunday's tech, he reached 10 for his senior season. "It was awesome," Ashworth said. "It was great to see the fans get on their feet for me. I wanted to send them out with a performance like that -- either a pin or a tech. It was good to compete for them like that one last time. These fans have done a lot for me and supported me like the best fans in the country for the last four years. It was just awesome to get to go out there and compete like that for them one last time." Fresh off a top-12 win in the Cowboys' dual at Utah Valley last Friday, redshirt freshman Hayden Hastings blanked Samuel Grove in the 174-pound match. Hastings scored a takedown in the first period, followed by a nearfall in the second to lead, 7-0, heading to the third. The Sheridan, Wyo., native put the finishing touches on his major in the final frame, taking on another takedown and clocking over four minutes of riding time for his 11-0 win -- his third major decision of the season. The team score stood at 20-9 after Lombardo took a tough loss to Zach Carlson at 184 pounds and the Jackrabbits forfeited the 197-pound match. In the heavyweight bout, Brian Andrews earned his second bonus point win of the weekend with a first-period fall over Blake Wolters. The sophomore heavyweight scored a takedown in the opening minute of the match, followed by a nice ride in which Andrews was able to turn Wolters to his back for the pin. With the win, Andrews moves to 28-8 on the year with a 15-4 mark in duals and four falls. Rounding back to the top of the lineup, George got the call to represent the Pokes at 125 pounds against Gregory Coapstick. George came out of the gate hot, scoring a takedown in the final minute of the first and earning back points with a four-point nearfall. The Cowboy senior nearly pinned Coapstick during the sequence, but was forced to settle for a 6-0 lead heading to the second. Coapstick made a push late in the bout, but George fought him off and stood tough to secure his 9-6 decision. "It was pretty exciting," George said. "I don't get to do that very often. Honestly, I wish I could have finished it in the first period, and it wasn't very pretty grinding it out like that. I just had the heart to do it and finish it for my team." In the final bout of the afternoon, Cowboy Montorie Bridges racked up five takedowns en route to a 12-5 win over South Dakota State's Rylee Molitor. Now a winner of 12-straight matches, Bridges is 26-7 on the year with a 16-4 dual record. The Cowboys will look to wrap up the dual schedule on a high note next Sunday as they head to Greeley, Colo., for a tussle with Big 12 rival Northern Colorado. The dual is set to start at 7 p.m. MT. With a share of the Southern Conference regular season title on the line, first-year head coach Kyle Ruschell and his staff guided the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga wrestling team to a gutty 18-12 win over No. 25 Campbell in Maclellan Gym today. UTC took six of the 10 matches in a clean dual that did not see either team score any bonus points. The Mocs move to 7-6 overall and close out its SoCon slate with a 5-1 mark. Both Appalachian State (6-6, 3-1 SoCon) and Campbell (5-1, 3-1 SoCon) have one conference loss each, and will likely share the league crown with Chattanooga. "This is one that we marked early in the year," stated Ruschell. "We knew it was home, we knew it was going to be tight and if we wrestled like that, we knew we could win. "There were two or three that we were supposed to win. There were two or three that they were supposed to win, but our guys fought hard. Everything we've been preaching, it all came together." After the Mocs went up 12-6 through six bouts, Campbell closed the gap with victories at 174 and 184. Freshman Hunter Fortner made it very interesting against the Camels' 17th-ranked Andrew Morgan, before falling 9-4. After junior Dominic Lampe lost 9-6 to Chris Kober at 184, junior Rodney Jones took the mat at 197 against the Camel's Austin McNeil. He quickly scored on a takedown, but gave up one later in the period after failing to finish up a double-leg. An escape in the second period gave him a 4-3 advantage entering the final frame. Huge Win for @UTCWrestling today over No. 25 Campbell! Mocs will share the SoCon regular season title with the 18-12 victory against the previously unbeaten Camels. McNeil escaped to tie it in the third and Jones got in on another double that McNeil fought off. Jones was able to work the third one for a take down and a 6-4 advantage. McNeil escaped, but Jones held on for the 6-5 win. The Mocs were now up 15-12 with the heavyweight bout featuring senior Connor Tolley and Camel junior Odgerel Batkhishig. Batkhishig was a junior-college All-American who brought an 11-7 record and a 2-0 mark in league duals. The only point awarded in the first period was a penalty on Tolley. Tolley escaped and scored a takedown in the second for a 3-2 lead after five minutes of action. After an early Camel escape, Tolley wore down Batkhishig with constant pressure. He added another takedown midway through the third for a 5-3 lead. The gap closed to 5-4 following an escape, but Tolley sent the crowd into a frenzy with a late takedown to seal the win. "It feels amazing," stated Tolley on his championship-clinching win on Senior Day. "Honestly, it's more about doing it as a family. Everything that we've done and being able to have this platform that the Lord blessed me with is just amazing. It's more than just wrestling, it's great being a part of a brotherhood." In such a tight win, every point in every match was crucial, beginning with senior Alonzo Allen's opening victory at 125. He scored a 7-2 decision over Korbin Meink to set the tone early. Junior Jake Huffine, who also participated in today's Senior Day festivities, fought hard against No. 20 Noah Gonser. He not only avoided giving up bonus points, he gave Gonser all he could handle in the 5-2 loss. "It's huge, we knew we couldn't give up bonus points," said Ruschell when asked about the Mocs performances against Campbell's three ranked individuals. "Our guys went out to beat them, not just hang in the match." Junior Chris Debien cruised in his 6-2 win over Nathan Boston at 141, while freshman Tanner Smith put up a big fight in a 7-4 loss to No. 9 Josh Heil. The two biggest swing matches of the day came right before and after intermission from a pair of Mocs freshmen. Ryan Resnick scored a thrilling 7-6 win over Campbell junior Benjamin Barton at 157. Coming out of the break, Drew Nicholson posted a 3-2 victory against Camel senior Cameron Pine. Those matches could have gone either way, but the Mocs were able to fight till the end for decisions in each. "We had a great crowd here," added Ruschell. "These are those high pressure situations we want to put our guys in, where it comes down to you and you have to win. That's what SoCon, going to nationals, being All-American is all about. "We have to put our guys into those high pressure situations so they can thrive and they did a great job. They came out, looked to score and made the guys wrestle a full seven minutes." UTC has one more dual, at Indiana on Feb. 24, before the SoCon Tournament on March 10 in Boone, N.C. The 2019 NCAA Championships are March 21-24 in Pittsburgh, Pa. In the meantime, UTC can clear a spot in the trophy case for its 17th SoCon regular season title since the league began recognizing a regular season crown in 1994. It is the first one for Chattanooga since 2016. "It means a lot," said Ruschell when asked about the SoCon trophy. "More to alumni and guys on the team, because they're the ones that said hey we can win this thing. When they start believing it -- it can happen. "It means a lot to the Chattanooga community and the alumni and I'm super happy for everyone who supports Chattanooga Wrestling." SAN LUIS OPISBO, Calif. -- The Air Force Academy wrestling team used six wins via bonus points to cruise to a 39-9 non-conference dual win at Cal Poly, Sunday afternoon, Feb. 10, at the Mott Athletics Center. Overall, the Falcons (5-5, 1-4 Big 12) won eight bouts, six by bonus points, a seventh by decision, and an eighth via forfeit. The Falcons were led by three pins on the afternoon, from junior Randy Meneweather at 174 lbs. and by freshmen Jake Thompson at 184 lbs. and Kayne Hutchison at heavyweight. The other three bonus point victories were via major decision, and all three were shutouts. Cal Poly's (0-7, 0-2 Pac 12) only two wins came via decision, and both were by final scores of 3-2. The dual began at 184 lbs. as Thompson got things started with a bang, pinning his opponent in the first period in 2:53. It was Thompson's first career dual win, and his fourth win via fall this season. Cal Poly took 197 as their No. 24 ranked grappler got a 3-2 decision that was decided on a stall call. Air Force rebounded in a big way at heavyweight as Hutchison locked up his team-leading sixth pin of the season in the second period. Hutchison moves to 5-3 in duals in his first season in the Blue and Silver. Going back to the top, freshman No. 30 Sidney Flores was perfect in an 8-0 major decision, extending AF's lead to 16-3 after four bouts. Following that, senior John Twomey racked up the riding time in a solid 8-5 decision win to make it 19-3 midway through. Junior Garrett O'Shea followed Flores' lead, as he cruised to a 9-0 major decision win, just his second bonus point victory of the season. At 149 lbs., Alec Opsal took the forfeit to put the dual out of reach, 29-3. The Mustangs got their second win at 157, by 3-2 decision once again. Rebounding at 165 lbs. was sophomore Jacoby Ward, as the Cincinnati, Ohio native kept his opponent off the board with an 8-0 major decision. In the final bout of the afternoon, Meneweather put the cherry on top as he pinned his opponent in just 36 seconds. It was the second-fastest pin in a dual for the Falcons this season, and the fourth-quickest overall. Air Force will return to the friendly confines of Clune Arena next weekend for a pair of Big 12 duals. The weekend gets started with a matchup with Oklahoma, Friday, Feb. 15, for Teacher Appreciation Night. Princeton bounced back from a disappointing road loss at Cornell Saturday and found enough bonus points to secure a 20-16 road win at Columbia to clinch at least a share of second place in the Ivy League this season. The Tigers will compete for sole possession of that spot next Saturday at the Palestra when they face Penn in a match streamed live on ESPN+. Freshman Quincy Monday got Princeton on the scoreboard with a 7-4 victory over Dan Reed at 157. Monday, who had a major decision Saturday at Cornell, is the only Princeton wrestler with a perfect 4-0 record against Ivy League competition this season (Matthew Kolodzik was rested against both Harvard and Columbia), and he will look to clinch first-team All-Ivy honors next Saturday. Columbia reclaimed the lead at 165, but Princeton grabbed control with three straight wins. Freshman Travis Stefanik edged Max Elling 3-1 at 174, and junior Kevin Parker followed with an 11-6 decision. Third-ranked Patrick Brucki brought Princeton its first set of bonus points when he pinned Sam Wustefeld with four seconds remaining in the second period. Two matches later, 10th-ranked Patrick Glory brought home two more bonus points with a 15-0 technical fall at 125 over Joe Manchio. LOCK HAVEN, Pa. -- The No. 22 Lock Haven University wrestling team won eight of 10 bouts and racked up bonus points on five occasions as the Bald Eagles soared by visiting Clarion University, 35-6. With the win, Lock Haven won the 2018-19 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Division I Dual Championships. LHU picked up a pair of pins, two tech falls, a major decision and held a 20-4 advantage in takedowns on the way to the dominating victory. With the win, the Bald Eagles improved to 8-3 overall and 5-0 in Eastern Wrestling League (EWL) action. Clarion fell to 6-6 overall (3-2 EWL, 1-1 PSAC DI). The victory also pushed Lock Haven to a perfect 3-0 in DI PSAC duals. The 3-0 record helped LHU claim the 2018-19 PSAC DI dual-meet championship. The DI PSAC wins came over Bloomsburg, Edinboro and Clarion, marking Lock Haven's first PSAC sweep in 17 years. It was during the 2001-02 season where Lock Haven last beat Bloomsburg, Edinboro and Clarion in the same season. No. 5 Marsteller pinned Even Delong in 4:31 at 165 and Haines ended the match in thrilling fashion as he pinned Toby Cahill in 5:18 at 285. Haines is ranked No. 11 nationally. All four of the Bald Eagles nationally-ranked wrestlers won as No. 20 Shoop (141) added another tech fall in a win that pushed him even closer to a major milestone. No. 17 Hazel (184) added a win and Klucker (157) picked up Lock Haven's second tech fall. Werner got LHU's sensational day started with a major at 125 in the opening bout of the dual. Despite losses, both redshirt-freshman Brock Port (Bellefonte, Pa./Bellefonte) and true-freshman Parker McClellan (Altoona, Pa./Altoona) turned in outings of note. Port scored a late takedown at 149, but was edged out 3-2. At 197, McCellan rode out the third and looked to turn No. 17 Greg Bulsak, but in the end, Bulsak held on for a 5-0 win in a match that was much closer than the score indicated. Werner racked up four takedowns in his lopsided 13-1 major at 125. Fehlman (133), Marsteller and Hazel all finished with a trio of takedowns in their winning efforts today. For Shoop, his tech fall today marked the 14th of the season for the nationally-ranked 141-pounder. He leads all NCAA Division I wrestlers in tech falls this season after leading the country last year. It was his 39th career tech as he added to his school-record total. The win moved his career total to 99 wins, as he's now just one win away from becoming Lock Haven's 21st 100-match winner. The team-win today helped Lock Haven close the weekend with a perfect 2-0 record. On Friday (Feb. 8), the Bald Eagles won seven of 10 bouts including another tech fall from Shoop and dismantled visiting Rider, 23-9 in EWL action. The Bald Eagles will close out their EWL dual schedule next Saturday, February 16 at Cleveland State. Sullivan carried a 1-0 lead into the third period when he started in the top position. The New Paris, Ohio native managed to tilt his opponent and flip the Bison heavyweight onto his back for the pin at 5:26 to lock up the win for the home side. RALEIGH, N.C. -- The 16th-ranked University of Pittsburgh wrestling team upset No. 8 NC State at Reynolds Coliseum Sunday afternoon, 18-16. With the win, Pitt improves to 11-3 overall and picks up its first ACC win of the year (1-2). NC State moves to 14-2 overall and 2-1 in conference action. The Wolfpack also suffer their first loss at home this year, finishing 9-1. The win was the first over NC State since the two teams first met in 2014 and is the first for Pitt in Raleigh. Three Panthers recorded impressive and clutch wins over ranked opponents. The first of the day was redshirt sophomore Gregg Harvey, who is unranked at 174 pounds, and defeated No. 20 Daniel Bullard in a 6-4 decision. Redshirt freshman Nino Bonaccorsi, ranked 13th at 184 pounds, upset No. 3 Nick Reenan in dominant fashion, 8-0, before redshirt junior Kellan Stout, who is unranked, had a vital win at 197 pounds, outlasting No. 20 Malik McDonald in a 5-4 decision. "It was a great team win today," said head coach Keith Gavin. "Our guys wrestled with a lot of fight and passion. When you do that, things tend to go your way more often than not." NC State got on the board first after freshman Brendon Fenton dropped a 13-6 decision to Zurich Storm at 125 pounds. The Panthers took the lead after two bouts, thanks to a major decision by redshirt freshman Micky Phillippi at 133 pounds. The fifth-ranked wrestler put on a clinic, racking up 17 points and allowing five. With the win, Phillippi improves to 15-2 on the year. Senior LJ Bentley then dropped a hard-fought match at 141 pounds as he forced overtime with NC State's Jamel Morris. Bentley fell behind in the first, 1-0, after being hit with stalling twice. In the second, Morris escaped off bottom to lead 2-0 entering the final frame. Bentley then escaped off bottom and was awarded a point after Morris pushed him out of bounds. Morris scored a takedown in sudden victory to win it, 4-2, and give the Wolfpack a 6-4 lead in the team race. NC State built on its lead with a major decision at 149 pounds. Senior Robert Lee fell in a 15-7 major decision to No. 8 Justin Oliver, giving the Wolfpack a 10-4 lead. Pitt fell behind 13-4 at the midway point after redshirt junior Taleb Rahmani dropped a 3-2 decision to No. 4 Hayden Hidlay. NC State won what would be its final match at 165 pounds after Thomas Bullard defeated sophomore Tommy O'Brien in a 6-1 decision, bringing the team score to 16-4. Harvey then stepped to the mat and was unshaken by No. 20 Daniel Bullard. The match was tied 3-3 entering the final frame as they started neutral. Harvey scored a takedown to lead 5-3 with 1:27 to go. Bullard quickly escaped, but was hit with hands in the face, bringing the score to 6-4 in favor of Harvey with one minute to go. He held off Bullard in the final minute en route to the win, chipping away at the team score, 16-7. Bonaccorsi picked up his third win of the weekend at 184 pounds and pulled off the biggest upset of his career thus far. The 13th-ranked Panther shutout No. 3 Nick Reenan, 8-0, cutting NC State's lead to 16-11. Stout used Bonaccorsi's momentum to record his first win over a ranked opponent this year in No. 20 Malik McDonald at 197 pounds. McDonald struck first in the opening period for the 2-0 lead. The two started the second in neutral and neither were able to score. Stout started the third on bottom, escaped and was awarded a penalty point as McDonald hit him in the face to tie it 2-2. McDonald then scored a takedown, but Stout quickly escaped. Stout scored a takedown to seal the deal late in the third en route to the 5-4 win and setting up the team score to 16-14 entering the final bout. Once again, the dual came down to the final bout as the Panthers just needed to win by a decision to upset the Wolfpack. ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The No. 4-ranked University of Michigan wrestling team was dominant in its first appearance at home in three weeks, cruising to a 30-9 decision over Northwestern on Sunday (Feb. 10) front of a crowd of 2,227 at Cliff Keen Arena. The Wolverines claimed seven individual bouts, earning bonus in five, to improve to 5-0 at home this season. Senior/junior Stevan Micic, ranked No. 1 in the nation at 133 pounds, claimed the dual's unexpected marquee match, 10-4, when Northwestern's Sebastian Rivera, the nation's No. 1 wrestler at 125 pounds, bumped up to face him. Micic controlled throughout, scoring on four takedowns, including a high crotch and a single leg in the first period, and accumulating 3:20 in riding-time advantage. He had the major decision in sight but gave up a rear-standing stall point and an escape late and couldn't quite finish on a single leg at the buzzer. Micic improved to 11-0 on the season and handed Rivera his first loss. Sophomores Drew Mattin and Reece Hughes earned falls at 125 and 174 pounds, respectively, to pile on big points for the Wolverines. Mattin, who faced Matthew Vinci instead of Rivera, scored on an early single and four-point arm bar in the first and went back to it in the second, turning Vinci and securing the pin -- his first of the season -- at the 4:04 mark. Hughes, wrestling up a weight class in place of senior/junior Myles Amine, finished his 174-pound bout even quicker, sticking Braxton Cody with a cradle at 1:18. Hughes struck on a high crotch immediately, added a four-point leg turk then locked up a farside cradle to turn and pin Cody in the center of the mat. It was Hughes' second dual-meet fall of the season; he previously earned a third-period pin while wrestling up two weights at Oregon State (Jan. 3). The Wolverines also earned three major decisions at 141, 165 and 184 pounds. Junior/sophomore Kanen Storr defeated Alec McKenna, 13-5, and secured his bonus margin late, cutting McKenna with 10 seconds remaining and scoring on a high crotch on the edge just five seconds later. Storr, ranked sixth nationally, finished on five total takedowns -- three in the third period -- and rode for 1:09. Senior/junior Logan Massa, ranked seventh, cruised to a 16-4 major decision over fellow Michigan native Tyler Morland at 165 pounds, scoring on six takedowns -- three in the first period -- and accumulating 4:04 in riding-time advantage. KENT, Ohio -- Central Michigan scored bonus points in three of its six victories on Sunday as the Chippewas downed Kent State, 23-12, in a Mid-American Conference dual at the Golden Flashes' Memorial Athletic and Convention Center. The win lifted CMU to 4-7 overall and it finished 3-4 in MAC duals. The victory came on the heels of an 18-17 loss on Friday at Buffalo. "It was good, especially coming off Buffalo," CMU coach Tom Borrelli said. "A couple of our guys had lost tough matches against Buffalo and to see them and get wins was nice." Against the Golden Flashes (7-13,1-5), the Chippewas got a pin from Matt Stencel in 1 minute, 6 seconds at 285 pounds, the final match of the day, to clinch the victory as they snapped a three-meet losing streak. CMU also got major-decision wins from Logan Parks (157) and from Collin Lieber (174). CMU's other wins, all by decision, came from Drew Hildebrandt (125), Drew Marten (141) and Landon Pelham (197). Pelham's victory was of particular importance in the dual. The Chippewas led, 14-12, heading into Pelham's bout with junior Shane Mast and the three team points that Pelham secured with his win upped the CMU lead to 17-12. Trailing 5-3 in the third period, Pelham scored an escape to draw to 5-4. He then took down Mast with 30 seconds remaining in the match to go ahead. He earned a point for riding time for the final margin. Pelham, Marten, and Lieber each bounced back from a loss against Buffalo to win on Sunday against Kent State. Of the Chippewas' four losses on Sunday, three came by three points or less. "We felt like we should have won eight matches if we would have finished our matches," Borrelli said. "We've been really, really close in all our MAC dual meets other than maybe (fifth-ranked) Missouri. Even (in) the Old Dominion dual, we lost three matches by one or two points. "We're trying to get ready for the MAC (Championships) and have a good tournament. After Missouri, everybody is pretty darned even in that tournament. So anything can happen." Hildebrandt, Parks and Stencel each went 2-0 on the weekend. Stencel's victories came by major decision and by pin; Hildebrandt did not surrender a point in either of his matches; and Parks' major on Sunday at Kent State was his third of the season. Parks entered the Buffalo dual having lost three consecutive matches. "He looked good (Sunday) and he wrestled well at Buffalo too," Borrelli said of Parks, a junior, who is 18-10 on the season. "He's pretty capable of beating just about anybody really." The Chippewas wrestle their final two duals of the season next weekend, and both are against Big Ten opponents. The No. 7 Gopher wrestling team shutout Maryland 45-0 with 10 individual victories including seven bonus point victories and two pins. The shutout victory was the Gophers second shutout of the season and first blanking of a Big Ten opponent since Jan. 15, 2012 against Purdue. Minnesota achieved 23 takedowns compared to Maryland's sole takedown at 165. After Maryland forfeited the 125-pound bout and gave the Gophers a 6-0 lead, 133-pound Ethan Lizak got the action started with a takedown only 45 seconds in. The redshirt senior nicknamed "Backpack Lizak" proceeded to turn his opponent, Orion Anderson, for a four-point nearfall in the first period before finishing off the pin after 2:17. 141-pound Mitch McKee followed Lizak's lead with first period of his own. After getting a quick takedown as well, McKee worked on top against his opponent before swinging Danny Bertoni to his back and flattening him for the pin at 2:37. In the dual's single ranked match-up, No.1 Gable Steveson and No.8 Youssif Hemida closed out the afternoon. Steveson got a hold of Hemida's leg and drove through him for the bouts first takedown and Steveson The victory is Steveson's 26th straight to begin his career, which places him at 16th on the Gophers all-time list alongside Dylan Ness, Chris Dardanes, Dave Dean. Head assistant Luke Becker is only one away, with his career best sitting at 27. He didn't get the pin, but 149-pound Tommy Thorn bounced back from a loss on Friday night with a first period technical fall. Thorn got the first takedown of the bout and repeatedly turned Peter Tedesco until he hit 16-1 on a final nearfall to end the match. While he didn't end the bout early like his fellow lightweights, 157-pound Bleise controlled the pace and dominated his bout. Bleise got six takedowns in the bout while the Terps' Ryan Diehl got none. 174-pound Devin Skatzka also got a major decision with a domination of Josh Ugalde for the full seven minutes. Skatzka got the only takedowns of the bout and he added a four-point nearfall and riding time point to win 17-2. Coming out of intermission, 165-pound Carson Brolsma kept the Gophers momentum going. Despite trailing at multiple points in the match, Brolsma stayed aggressive and got a key takedown midway through the third period to take a 5-4 lead. After a Spadafora escape to tie the bout at five, Broslma got to his opponent's left leg and finished the takedown for the decisive lead. Redshirt senior Brandon Krone got the start at 184-pounds and after getting the first takedown converted it into a four-point nearfall. The Anoka, Minnesota, native did it again in the final 20 seconds to make it a 12-0 major decision. After a slow first period, 197-pound Dylan Anderson got on the board with an escape and followed it up with two takedowns in the final two periods. Once he held the 5-0, lead Anderson rode out his opponent and had upwards of 2:37 riding time. WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. -- No. 18 Rutgers wrestling (11-5, 4-3) used wins in six individual bouts to grind out a 22-15 dual victory over No. 20 Purdue (6-8, 2-5) on Sunday in West Lafayette, Indiana. The dual win against the Boilermakers was the third for the Scarlet Knights over a ranked foe this season and fourth victory over a Big Ten Conference foe in 2018-19. RU erased an early 9-3 deficit by winning five consecutive bouts from heavyweight through 149 pounds. No. 1 Anthony Ashnault (149) pinned for the eighth time this season, No. 4 Nick Suriano (133) earned his ninth major decision and fourth win against a ranked individual, while Nicholas Gravina (184), Christian Colucci (HWT), Shane Metzler (125) and Peter Lipari (141) all secured decisions against Purdue. RU has now won three consecutive dual wins dating back to last weekend's thriller over No. 20 Princeton. "What a way to sweep the weekend," said head coach Scott Goodale. "We piece things together and find a way to win these dual meets. It's a long weekend, so I'm proud of our guys. We're banged up and we just keep fighting through it." How it Happened • With the match starting at 174 pounds, Joseph Grello suffered a tough 4-3 loss to No. 11 Dylan Lydy. Grello trailed by just one point in the third period and had multiple shots on Lydy's legs, but could not complete the comeback. • Gravina followed against Max Lyon and earned a point for unnecessary roughness for an immediate 1-0 lead to start the match. Lyon was again hit for a penalty in the second period to give Gravina a 2-1 lead with two minutes to go, while a late escape by Gravina earned him a 3-2 decision. • Matthew Correnti (197) was pinned in the third period of his match with No. 12 Christian Brunner, as Rutgers trailed 9-3 through three match. Colucci helped Rutgers regain its momentum with his 3-2 overtime win against Jacob Aven, riding him out in TB1 and then escaping in TB2 for his third conference win of the season. • Metzler tied up the team score with his 4-1 decision against Marshall Craig, adding the takedown in the third period to make it a 9-9 dual at intermission. • Suriano was once again dominant in his match, this one against No. 14 Ben Thornton. Suriano had two takedowns and 1:17 of riding time in the first period, added an escape and takedown in period two and closed the bout two takedowns in the final 1:20 of action for the 12-4 major decision. • Lipari wrestled tough in his bout with Nate Limmex. Trailing 3-2 with just under 15 seconds left, Lipari escaped to force sudden victory. Then in TB2, Lipari worked a reversal for a 5-4 final, his second consecutive win of the weekend. • Ashnault clinched the dual with his pin of Parker Filius, needing just 2:22 to get his opponent on his back for the fall. That put the match out of reach, as Rutgers led 22-9 with two matches to go. Notables • The win over No. 20 Purdue was the third over a ranked foe, as the Scarlet Knights also secured victories against No. 10 Wisconsin (Jan. 11) and No. 20 Princeton (Feb. 3). • Ashnault collected his eighth pin of the season and first since Dec. 16 against Rider. The graduate student, now 21-0, leads the program with 77 dual points in 2018-19. • Ashnault has won 15 matches by bonus, including eight falls, four tech falls and three major decision. • Ashnault now owns 112 career victories, good for fourth in program history. Ashnault needs just sic more wins to become the school's all-time wins leader. • Suriano is on a five-match winning streak, and has outscored his opponents, 89-26, during that span. • Suriano collected his team-leading ninth major of the season and is now 19-2 with 17 wins by bonus, including nine majors, four tech falls, three pins, and a medical forfeit. EAST LANSING, Mich. -- The Michigan State wrestling program continued a strong stretch of duals on Sunday, February 10, defeating Cleveland State by a final mark of 36-7 from Jenison Field House. A win improved the Spartans season tally to 9-6 overall, which guarantees Michigan State's first season at or above .500 since the 2010-11 season where they finished 9-9. Sunday's dual started at 125 pounds as No. 7-ranked Rayvon Foley got himself back into the win column with an 18-0 tech fall over Cameron Lathem. Foley improved his season record to 27-2 overall and 14-1 in duals with a win over Lathem. Redshirt junior Logan Griffin made his second appearance of the season at 133 pounds, but was defeated by Armando Torres, an Eastern Michigan transfer, by a 10-0 mark. The 141 pound bout started a string of six-straight victories for the Spartans. Redshirt Senior Austin Eicher won his second-straight contest since returning to the Spartans lineup, defeating Sam Matzek by fall late in the third period to put MSU up 11-4. Redshirt freshman Jaden Enriquez also picked up his second dual victory in a row on Sunday, defeating Brady Barnett, who entered Sunday's dual with a season record of 17-7 and 9-2 in duals. Bouncing back from a loss against Northwestern was 157-pounder Jake Tucker who earned an 8-0 major decision over Nico O'Dor to put the Spartans up 18-4 at the intermission. Out of the break, redshirt sophomore Austin Hiles picked up his second dual win of the year in a 9-5 contest with Ryan Ford. Cleveland State opted to forfeit at 174 pounds leading into redshirt freshman Cameron Caffey's match at 184. Caffey was the Spartans second winner by fall of the afternoon, pinning Chris Morrow in 4:35 to give MSU a 33-4 advantage. The Vikings brought the overall score to 33-7 with a win at 197 pounds, but heavyweight Chase Beard gave three points right back to the Spartans with a 6-2 decision in the duals final bout. The teams each won a decision in the first two matches, with Jonathan Tropea (Harrington Park, NJ/Saint Joseph Montvale) taking a 9-8 win over Willy Girard at 125. A pair of injury defaults gave Rider the next 12 points and the Broncs wouldn't trail the rest of the way. Nationally-ranked No. 14 Jesse Dellavecchia (Great River, NY/East Islip) scored a 10-2 major decision over Alex Carida at 165, before Sherry pinned Gavin Hale at 2:29 to give the Broncs a 25-6 lead. MARIETTA, Ga. -- For the first time in school history, Menlo College can say that it now has a national champion. Menlo College Women's Wrestling finished the 2019 WCWA National Championship with the top team score, nine All-Americans, and three National Champions to claim the title. National Champs! Menlo claimed the WCWA national titleWith 199.5 team points, Menlo College came out on top during the 2019 WCWA National Championship. Simon Fraser University was the closest challenger with 195 team points, and McKendree University finished third with 189. It was going to be a three-team race all evening long, and really came down to how many national champions each team had. The Oaks needed three, and they got their three, more than any other program competing. "It's incredible, it's surreal," head coach Joey Bareng said, fighting back tears. "There's no words to explain how I feel right now. I'm so proud of the girls and it gets me emotional just thinking about everyone's journey and how far we've come and all the hard work on the backend to make this happen. "It's for everyone who has ever wrestled for Menlo College, anyone who has ever supported us, the Menlo community, it's everybody." Bareng certainly was not the only who felt that winning the title was "surreal." Director of Athletics Keith Spataro was onsite to see Menlo win its first national title, and he could not be more elated. "To think that we went from nothing for 92 years to being able to put together a national championship team is unbelievable," he mentioned. "When you win a national title, you have to have all the right things come together. You have to have the right coaching staff, the right student-athletes, and you have to create an environment for them to be successful. "When we started the program, I had a clear vision of what I wanted it to look like. We've been close, but nothing feels like this. This is super special and all of our programs should get to experience this." The Freshman, Part I Top-ranked Alleida Martinez became the first freshman National Champion for the Oaks since 2004 when she won the title in the 109 bracket. She had to win two matches on the final day to do the job, and she did just that. She first defeated No. 5 Ciara McCrae 10-0 via tech fall in the semis to force a matchup against second-ranked McKayla Campbell of Campbellsville University for the title. Not only did she control the entire match, but she ended it with a pinfall, capping off a perfect tournament run for her with yet another title, this one the greatest of them all. The Freshman, Part II Alongside Martinez was Gracie Figueroa, her high school teammate turned collegiate teammate. Also ranked No. 1 in the 116 bracket, Figueroa ran the table during her two matches en route to becoming a national champion. She first won via tech fall over No. 6 Jathiya Isaac of Wayland Baptist. Her opponent in the title match was again the second-ranked woman in the country, Felicity Taylor of McKendree University. The Bearcat was no match for the freshman, who took control of the match from the beginning and shut her out with a 7-0 final to go back-to-back with Martinez in becoming freshmen All-American. Clinching In Style In order to win a national championship, the Oaks needed to have three National Champions. The third woman up to win a title was No. 3 Solin Piearcy, and she rose to the occasion. Her semifinal match was no cake-walk, as she trailed 4-1 in the second period to No. 4 Kayla Marano of Emmanuel College, who beat her earlier in the year. She forced Marano to the mat, got her in a leg lace, and the match was essentially over. She was able to rattle off roll after roll to pick up the final 13 points and tech fall her 14-4. Her championship match was in a similar fashion, down 1-0 to No. 2 Nicole Joseph of King University. Once again, she scored a takedown, wrapped up the legs of Joseph, and tech falled her 11-1. Then, the celebration was on. Menlo earned three National Champions for the first time in program history, and the school's first National Championship. "I was more focused on what she was doing, not really what I could be doing, Piearcy mentioned about both of her matches. "But then I heard the Menlo community and family tell me 'Open up! Do this, do that!' I'm like, okay, I can do this. And when I got her down on the mat, I knew what I could do. It became all about the top-bottom and I love the leg lace. I just felt everybody's support, and all of a sudden I heard everyone screaming." Going For A Sweep With the title wrapped up, No. 4 Iman Kazem went to work with her sights set on becoming the fourth Oak to win a title on Saturday night. No. 3 Alyvia Fiske was up in the semifinals, someone who Kazem had never beaten. That is, until the semifinals. In a thrilling back-and-forth affair, Kazem scored a big takedown in the final moments to pull ahead and win 9-7, securing a spot in the title match. She drew the top-ranked woman in 155s, Alexandria Glaude of McKendree, and she proved to be just a bit too much. Despite scoring a late takedown, Kazem fell 6-2 to finish second overall. Despite the loss, she wraps up her final WCWA tournament with her best finish yet. Hiba Salem The first Oak to compete in a medal match, Hiba Salem was able to garner fourth place after going 2-1 on the final day of competition. She needed to win her first two to get to the third place match, and that's exactly what she did. The three-time All-American beat No. 8 Jaclyn McNichols of King University 7-5 before tech falling No. 2 Junnette Caldera of Jamestown 15-3, setting herself up against No. 3 Nina Pham of Wayland Baptist. In a battle of the third and fourth-ranked wrestlers, Pham came out on top with a tech fall victory, ending the tournament for Salem with a record of 5-2. Precious Bell Arguably the most difficult road traveled to a medal match was Precious Bell, who lost her first match on Friday and created a long and arduous road to the end. The first two victories on the day for Bell were via tech falls, including a massive 15-2 tech fall win over Brittany Marshall of Wayland Baptist, the top-ranked wrestler in 170, just above Bell, who is second-ranked. No. 4 Mariah Harris of Campbellsville University stood in the way during the third-place match, and in her eighth and final match of the weekend, Bell came up just short, falling 3-2 and finishing in fourth place with a record of 6-2. Tiana Jackson First-time All-American No. 5 Tiana Jackson was poised and ready to make some noise as she wrestled her semifinal match against top-ranked Dominque Parrish of Simon Fraser University. Jackson was ultimately knocked down via tech fall, dropping her into a match against No. 9 Koral Sugiyama of Campbellsville, but this match also went to the opponent with a fall. This set up a big match for fifth place against No. 2 Dajan Treder of Providence, and after each wrestler was able to score a takedown late, it was Treder on top with a 6-5 final and giving sixth place to Jackson, with a 4-3 record to her name. Angela Peralta Only wrestling twice on championship Saturday, No. 7 Angela Peralta was able to finish eighth overall at 143. Her matchups were difficult, starting with No. 2 Ashlynn Ortega of King University in her first consolation match. Peralta was not able to score in the match, dropping the decision 5-0 and placing her in the seventh-place match against sixth-ranked Sara Brinkac of Simon Fraser. In another big match for the Oaks in terms of team score, Peralta scored a late takedown but couldn't follow it up with more as she lost 7-4 and finished eighth. Peralta wrestled six times this weekend and finished with a 3-3 mark. Sara Aguilar Some of the most exciting consolation matches of the tournament came via No. 4 Sara Aguilar, in as an All-American for the first time. She drew No. 8 Jesse Kirby of Cumberlands in her first match, and the two sides went back-and-forth, with takedown after takedown. Aguilar started each period strong, but Kirby finished stronger, with a takedown in the final 30 seconds to seal a 16-12 decision win over Aguilar. This set up a date with No. 9 Alexandra Castillo of Campbellsville for the seventh-place match and again, Aguilar started well but couldn't finish off Castillo, who got the best of her with an 8-4 decision. In six matches she had to compete in, Aguilar went 3-3 overall, or 4-3 if you include the one win she was given via disqualification. Let the Celebrating Begin! When asked about his plans to celebrate, coach Bareng started laughing and said that he will definitely take some time to enjoy this. "I want to hang out with these ladies, I want to have dinner with my coaches. I'm going to play some good music in the car and sing it up with the girls. I'm going to go home and kiss my wife, kiss my kids. They've sacrificed a lot for this to happen too." Spataro took a different approach to the aftermath of Menlo winning its first national title. "I think we have everything in place [to win more national titles]," Spataro said with a smile. "We've done a lot of things in the last few years with facility upgrades and the way our scholarships have increased. We also have [Menlo President, Steven Weiner] who loves sports and supports us. When you have all of these things, it's hard to find in today's higher education. There's no reason why this should be our last."

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. -- Bouncing back from a tough defeat at CSU Bakersfield earlier in the day, the No. 24 ranked Fresno State Wrestling team won nine of 10 matches at Cal Poly to defeat the Mustangs, 41-6 on Saturday evening at the Recreation Center. Fresno State (9-7) picked up seven bonus point wins getting falls from redshirt freshman Gary Joint at 133 pounds and sophomore heavyweight AJ Nevills while Khristian Olivas received a forfeit at 149 pounds. The 'Dogs also got a technical fall from redshirt freshman 184-pounder Jackson Hemauer and major decisions from Chris Deloza (141 lbs.), Isaiah Hokit (165 lbs.) and Dominic Kincaid (174 lbs.). With the win, the Bulldogs assure themselves of a winning dual meet record in its only their second year back on the mat as they are now two matches over .500 with one final dual remaining on Feb. 17 at home against Oklahoma. How It Happened With the dual getting started at 157 pounds, Wright won a hard-fought battle over redshirt freshman Brawley Lamer, 4-3 as a third period takedown proved to be the difference for the Dinuba native giving the 'Dogs a early 3-0 lead. Back-to-back major decisions from Isaiah Hokit and Kincaid pushed the 'Dogs ahead 11-0 before Hemauer went to work on Willem DeBoer at 184 pounds notching his fourth technical fall of the campaign, 15-0. The match of the dual came at 197 pounds as it was the lone bout to pit two ranked wrestlers as the 'Dogs No. 13 Josh Hokit faced No. 17 Tom Lane. Leading by a slim 2-1 margin after the first period, Hokit escaped in the second period and then got a quick takedown to start the third to take a 5-1 lead as Lane escaped, but one final takedown by Hokit ended any hope for Lane as the win moved the Bulldogs' winning streak to nine. Nevills was able to take down and quickly turn Samuel Aguilar at heavyweight to extend the lead to 25-0 and after the Mustangs' lone win, the 'Dogs got a fall from Joint, a major decision by Deloza and Olivas' forfeit to end the dual.
