Ha. I've just done easy google searches so far. No newspapers, student publications, etc. Lots of places to dig into to find these last ones. Hoping people will know quite a few of them when I finally post the database out there.
There have been 24.2k NQs in D1. I've got the state of 22.5k, HS of 21.7k, and hometown of 14k. I haven't done a super deep dive on the others yet so I am sure I will be able to find quite a few of those too when I get to it.
It's taken an extremely LOOOOOOOONG time. But worth it.
Whatever they listed on a roster for hometown. If that wasn't available then a yearbook, newspaper, etc. lists them. Not perfect but nothing will be.
For example, Myles Martin lists nj instead of md where he went to hs.
So close. Just need to switch Ohio and Iowa.
PA, OK, IA, OH, IL. Iowa is inching closer to passing OK. Oh and IL were close but OH is starting to open a gap with the past 10 years.
Numbers 2 & 3 added up doesn't equal PA!
You've got 4 states. Only 1 is in the right order though (hint- it's PA). But you have listed 7 of the top 8 who are all well above any one else.
New question - Name the 5 states, in order, that have produced the most AAs?
* Note - I'm missing the states for almost 50 AAs, but it shouldn't affect the order.
The answer was 9. More than I would've thought.
Next question - What high school has the most National Champs?? Bonus point if you can name when the last one was.
The last 2 countries I was looking for was Iraq and Turkey. You have to go all the way back to the 50s for those.
New question - Since 1967, how many unseeded wrestlers have won a National Title?
You're not wrong, but both list their hometown as in the US. Though I think Gomez would list PR instead of DR since he spent the majority of his life there.
Novachkov - https://gopoly.com/sports/wrestling/roster/boris-novachkov/4419
Gomez - https://msuspartans.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=6270
Either way, there are a couple others out there.
New question for the day:
Wrestling is an international sport with at least 13 countries (by hometown) having wrestlers who have earned AA honors:
An example would be Lachlan McNeil with Toronto is listed as his hometown even though he went to Wyoming Seminary in PA.
Name those countries (bonus points for naming any).
You’re right. Thanks for the correction. I fat-fingered my data entry and had his record at 6-6 one year… Still working on sanity scrubs with it.
There are few more with 27 matches over the course of 4 tournaments that could be added.
Everyone with 28 or more matches at NCAAs.
Willie Miklus with 30 in 4.
Myles Amine with 30in 5.
John Fisher with 29 in 4.
Zach Sanders with 29 in 4.
Jaydin Eierman with 28 in 5.
Brandon Becker with 28 in 4.
Kirk Mammen with 28 in 4.
Logan Massa with 28 in 5.
Michael McGee with 28 in 5.
