Stock up:  Bishop McCort.

I'm only half-joking here.  Yes, they're a high school team and didn't compete, but hear me out:

--Bo Bassett beat Jaxon Joy 11-1 at the Clarion Open, who had beaten Ethan Stiles.  Both Joy and Stiles went unbeaten at Nationals Duals, with Joy taking out Swiderski and Stiles taking out Block and Zinkin.

--Jax Forrest beat Ben Davino 4-0 at the US Open.  We already knew Ben Davino was good (having taken out Fix), but after destroying Drake Ayala at National Duals, it's clear Davino is a likely finalist.

--Mel Miller took out Brandon Cannon 8-5 at the Clarion Open.  So far it's Cannon's only blemish, with a National Duals run that included a 16-4 thumping of defending NCAA Champ Taylor, plus 18-8 over Millard.

Earlier this year I said I thought McCort would place top 20 at NCAAs in March if they were allowed to compete.  Now I'm amending that to top 10. Jax and Bo each place 1st-3rd and Miller low-AA's, which is probably good enough to clear mid-40s in points, which is probably good enough to place top 10.

You’re not wrong at all. I was thinking about that this morning (specifically Cannon). That loss to Miller seemed to really light a fire under his rear! R1 TF, R2 MD, R3 MD over NC Taylor, R4 MD over Vonovich.

No doubt.  I know Taylor struggled a bit this weekend, but dang, Cannon looked like a beast.

Back to Miller:  One result that, I think, kept people from getting overly high on Miller was his close loss to Robideau (3-2) in late May at U20 finals.  But after Robideau's coming-out party at National Duals (and vs Cardenas the week before), it's not exactly a bad loss.  Fold that in with Miller's win over Cannon, and his near-upset of Henson in free last week (8-6), and it paints a pretty clear picture that the high school junior is already right there with the top several 157lbers at NCAAs.
