I know this is a wrestling forum and I didnt know where else to turn but here. Are there any coaches on here that utilize wrestling (drills, etc) to make their football team better? Have any of you modified wrestling drills, etc to football. I would appreciate any help you can give.

We are in the talks of getting wrestling here at our school but in the meantime I am working to get our players tougher, and stronger, and everyone I have talked to points me to wrestling.

I think there is a level of mental toughness is wrestling that is hard to get in other sports so that will certainly help. wrapping on tackles is obviously pretty similar to a double leg that's probably the closest 1 for 1 you will get as well as the aspect of forward and lateral movement. Generally, I think a wrestling base is going to help you in pretty much any walk of life so I think its a great addition.

Wrestlers are good at football because of leverage, movement, and mental toughness. Mostly the last one. There isn't one drill that you can just add in (maybe some hand fighting on the Dline?). It really takes a full season of training with a good wrestling coach to get the attributes you want to help football players.

We fully intend on those who are not in another sport to be in wrestling (when we get it ) but until then we are trying to incorporate a "wrestling class" if you will into our offseason.

So for someone who has never wrestled or coached it, where can one start?

Athletes ocean has lots of good resources from what I hear. I think they even have things that teach you how to structure practices. You might also want to seriously consider bringing in someone with wrestling experience to be on your football staff. Definitely need someone with experience to be a wrestling coach or you'll be holding your athletes back in terms of technique. I help out with football at the school I coach wrestling at (middle school). Helps to build a relationship with the athletes before wrestling season begins and it gives you the opportunity to get kids excited about trying a new sport and potentially recruit more.
