There's a thread asking about Penn St. being permitted a B team. Should they just have their own conference?

Using @Wrestleknownothing's work on each team's NCAA's performance, I created the table below and posted it on another thread. Expected points are calculated based off of average past performance by every seed.

If you notice, Penn St. would be the 3rd highest scoring conference with only their 10 starters (see "actual team points").

More than that, no conference other than the Big 10 had an All-American at every weight. Penn St. did that alone. In fact, Penn St.'s individual placed better than the highest placer from each non-Big 10 conference in at least 7 weights (including vs. the Big 12).

If we're going to allow Penn St. to have a B team, why not go all the way and allow them to be their own conference of 20 or 30 wrestlers?

Your chart does show how over seeded everyone is compared to the BIG.  A lot of that is thanks to conference placement being a factor.

With the rosters being set to 30, Penn State could only field 3 teams so the worst conference placement would be 3rd, leading Penn State to be over seeded.

Penn State might win three team trophies but would be performing worse than seed so Penn State would be a disappointment causing fewer blue chips to want to go there, leading to Penn State winning the team title by only 30 points or so most years.

Penn State only conference = the eventual downfall of Penn State wrestling.

And win%.

And possibly coaches' rank, which, like many rankings, is probably too biased toward win% also.

PS3, the new Penn State conference can forfeit to each other in conference duels for the ones who need wins.   Since they don't have to travel to those pesky BIG matches, they never have to leave Pennsylvania.   They aren't going to lose many matches against Clarion, Edinboro, Bloomsburg... super high win % and they'll be seeded even higher, leading to their demise even sooner.

Wrestling should adopt a Dapper Dan event where PSU starters wrestle against highest placing All-Americans from other programs. It's kind of like the All-Star, but hold it the week following nationals, and use it to gather interest in a dual team championship.

We just watched it.  PSU won 2 matches. The other schools top guys won the other 8.

I was joking around, but clearly, the national tournament is different from a head-to-head dual. In that format, I would bet against an 8-2 outcome. Maybe closer to 5-5.
