Yeah, I feel terrible for him. I think he just wanted a respectable retirement. He definitely couldn’t get it at OTT, and now he didn’t have the opportunity here because Nokhodi got caught in a lace. He can’t catch a break to even have a decent retirement

I would go back and watch/listen to burroughs when he was putting it on dake and taylor before they turned the corner.  He is very much in the old school J Smith style crush 'em and forget about 'em sort of camp, it may not have been what got him through, but he was definitely very big on buying into his own story (I'm trying to phrase it politely).

He's never been immensely disrespectful, but he's also never been one to hide it when he had something to say about somebody either.  Nature of competition certainly, but he has a strong "bitter competitor" muscle.  He, J Smith, the Brands, Gable, are all cut from the same cloth.

Massive respect to all of them, but when you become the type of dude who foams at the mouth when things get heated or who yells, mopes and pouts when you don't win, you often miss or lose the ability to give yourself a gentle farewell.  Being pissed about losing clouds the ability to have the perspective to craft such a moment.  It makes great winners, but great winners never want to be done winning.

Nebraska is not an elite program lol

I’m sure you could start there.  Now.   And when you were competing.

I don’t  like nebby but a constant top 10/15 team is really elite.  Message board warriors hrumofffff…..   we are so not good for growing the sport.

imagine a hs athlete….   Who isn’t in the top 10 thinking I’m settling when choosing nebby.   What message does that give?  What % of hs athletes can start at a Nebraska.   Not a large #.

He’s also far more respectful and dignified in public than the current crop of psu stars.  He has not pizzed on anyone’s grave or offended one of the most popular religions on earth.

edit…. I obviously don’t know him in private.  Which is why I said in public.

I don't feel sorry for him.  He won a World Championship just two years ago at the age of 34.  He chose to keep going.  He's a great champion and one of the best ever.

Neither do I.

The only wrestlers I feel sorry for are people with terrible luck with injuries, a  super heavy weight or two in the pre transfer era, and wrestlers whose careers were derailed by politics (war, national bans on the sport).

Burroughs falls under none of those things.
