  1. I recently had a family member get caught up in this exact same scenario.  All moral judgements and ethical questions aside, KS is going to end up registering on a list that will more than likely prevent him from being around a lot if places.  I would imagine clinics, schools, and you tournaments are out of the equation.  Depending on what USA wrestling decides to do he may not be able to compete at SR level events.  Is there any precedent for this scenario?  How does NLWC respond?

Effectively, he has torpedoed his wrestling career for the foreseeable future unless he has some Cornell level lawyers in his back pocket.  Truly a disappointing development.

Sorry but I feel like Lazarev should’ve let Akgul have his moment

I think he did. he took his shoes off much faster, said a prayer, stood up and backed up a few steps giving Akgul center mat. At the end of the day its Lazarev's moment too; he shouldn't have to sacrifice his oppertunity to end his career on his own terms

I think we never even got to see the best Gable could be. The dude took down Geno three times in like 20 seconds… I’d say his offense is pretty dynamic. Imagine if he was training freestyle full time… I think he would have been dominant

Gable was awesome with his down blocking, running the hip, re attack were insane.  His offense was would class eltie.

Its the most frustrating thing about Gable is we will never know how high ceiling was going to be. What if he committed to his nutrition and training?

I do not believe Gable would beat this version of Zare. He's smaller and his offense is not dynamic enough. This pains me as a known hater of greco dancing bears.

In short i agree with you.

I would love to think a Gable loss here would motivate him to go absolutely all in with his training and make some adjustments, but ultimately I dont think he would be able to match Zare's toughness.

  5. He looked like he wanted to wrestle a folkstyle match.  He gassed himself with all of those straight on shot attempts.  When are we going to learn that shot volume doesn't mean shit at this level and controlling center is everything?

Our young buck's inexperience is really showing this week.

Any parents or coaches on here interact with him?

I have many times.  He has been the official during many lower level events I've coached in the past.  I have also had extended conversations with him while he was recording matches at the state tournament.  I cant even begin to explain how filthy i feel knowing i was standing next to this animal as he had his camera rolling.  Like most monsters in the world i never suspected a thing and was actually grateful we had somebody in the community recording and uploading so much footage.

    Is he An ihsa ref?

he was an (awful) IHSA ref for a few years.  I never saw him work anything higher than freshmen or jv.  I do remember he was pretty bad and did not have a great handle on the rules.  In fact, i knew if i took him to the table to ask for clarification of a call he would falter pretty badly.

I don't give a damn if he grew up in New Mexico; Real Woods lived and wrestled all four years in Illinois.  He belongs to us!

Conversely DJ Shannon wrestled in Missouri during high school I do not claim him.

I understood this as an all star lineup based on current athletes and not an all time line up.  I reckon if it is the latter then everyone's list will look a bit different.

I like Zac Braunagel's prospects in challenging for the 197 spot in this lineup. He had an identical dual meet record to Warner (9-4) this year, but a key difference is that Braunagel started every Illini dual, while Warner sat out a few (including vs Wisconsin where Iowa took a loss at 197 and had to squeak by on criteria). Zach also had a better conference dual record, and won head to head against Warner in the dual vs Iowa.

I like your argument and wouldn't disagree if you went ZB over JW.  I put Warner in the lineup based on his more extensive resume.

  10. Illinois using this past season's rosters

    125- Matt Ramos

    133-Michael McGee

    141-Real Woods

    149-Yahya Thomas

    157-AOC

    165-Dean Hamiti

174- Donnell Washington (lived in Indiana but went to high school in Illinois)

    182-Abe Assad

    197-Jacob Warner

    285- Big Cass

that is a pretty solid lineup!!

In these hear new times saving redshirts ain't a thing, if you are ready then wrestle.  Plus the portal is out there, there more coin out there if you do some improving in the room.  Why invest coach'n and practice partners and such to just have a kid take off for greener mats, if he ready - get him in the lineup.

I hear ya.  It might be prudent to wrestle him right away to get something out of him because history has shown BT has no problem bailing for greener pastures.  He went through three of four high schools so I have no faith he'll stay at OSU for the long haul.
