  1. Yep - he returned for 2 matches and then forfeited out. Lost 1-0 to Truax in the semis after that 14-2 win. That and Valencia's unfathomable 9-2 loss to the # 6 seed (Wills) and it's no wonder ASU is currently in 4th place in the team standings.

Dixon (OSU) vs. # 6 seeded Jake Andrews (CSB) – Winner to face # 2 seed Trevor Tinker (CP) – Dixon and Andrews did not wrestle each other this season
  3. That was all ifs and maybes and coulds. I was looking for something more definitive than that.
  4. I would think that if Norfleet is going to be their guy at 197 lbs for the tournament that there would have been something about that on the ASU wrestling website or at the very least on the ASU wrestling twitter page. But there is nothing about him competing on either of those two websites.
  5. That is what is listed on the brackets on TrackWrestling but I have not seen it anywhere else. However Norfleet is actually listed on the TW bracket as the # 4 seed - not # 5. And his first round opponent is the # 5 seed Mateo Morales of CSB. Assuming Norfleet wins that match he would then wrestle the # 1 seed Bernie Truax of Cal Poly. https://www.trackwrestling.com/predefinedtournaments/MainFrame.jsp?newSession=false&TIM=1677935276011&pageName=%2Fpredefinedtournaments%2FBracketViewer.jsp&twSessionId=vhedyqqbdg The PAC 12 Wrestling Championship Central webpage still is listing ASU's Josh Nummer as the # 5 Seed vs. the # 4 Seed Mateo Morales of CSB. https://pac-12.com/2023-pac-12-wrestling-championships

  8. What hasn't been mentioned here in this is Arizona State is trying to win their 4th straight PAC 12 championship. And they are trying to do that without Jacori Teemer, Kordell Norfleet and Jesse Vasquez. Having Yasguire at 141 lbs gives ASU a better shot at trying to accomplish that goal. Burning Ysaguirre's RS is irrelevant as nothing is being burned. He will still have a redshirt year to use. With Yasquire in the lineup ASU could win as many as 6 weight classes at the PAC 12 tournament - just as they did last season.
  9. I have to agree with Idaho on this one. Ysaguirre replacing Vasquez makes total sense if Vasquez is not able to compete. It has nothing to do with his ability to get down to 133 lbs. After all Ysaguirre nearly majored the # 4 ranked guy in the country at 141 lbs just 10 days ago when ASU wrestled vs Nebraska. And as Idaho correctly points out Ysaguirre is not going to replace McGee at 133 lbs. Why would ASU even consider that? Why would anyone consider that?
  10. Surprising to see Valencia as the # 3 seed behind Eischens and Olmos when Valencia beat both of them this season.
  11. Sunday - and yes Stanford live stream is available to all. PAC 12 networks (all 7 of them) are available on Vidgo for $60 / month.
  12. My guesses would be the following: 125 - Courtney vs Provo 133 - McGee vs Shaner 141 - Belton vs. Ysaguirre 149 - Parco vs Abas 157 - Cardenas vs Wick 165 - Griffith vs Olguin 174 - Valencia vs Olmos 184 - Munoz vs Montalvo 197 - Truax vs Harvey 285 - Schultz vs Tinker
  13. According to what I saw here the NCAA transfer portal opens back up on March 9th - that being one week from tomorrow. And it will remain open for roughly 2 months until May 7th.
  14. I know Vasquez didn't compete in ASU's last two duals vs Nebraska and CS Bakersfield but is there something definite that is 100 % certain that confirms that Vasquez won't be competing next Sunday? He hasn't competed officially since the dual vs. Oregon State on Feb. 5th where he beat Cleveland Belton 5-2. I'm just curious what lead to the conclusion that he won't be competing 1 month after he last competed. It certainly blows for ASU if he can't go. First they lose Jacori Teemer. Then they lose Kordell Norfleet. And now they appear to have lost Vasquez.
  15. It's true that Griffith and Eischens were honored at this year's Senior night for Stanford. However Oregon State honored 8 of their guys last Sunday and only two of those eight have no more eligibility remaining. Namely Tanner Harvey (Grad student) and Aaron Olmos (2023 was his 6th season). The other six Oregon State guys all have eligibility remaining. So it remains to be seen if any of the other six will be back for 2024. One of those six was listed on the 2023 Oregon State roster as a RS Sophomore (even tho this was his 4th year of wrestling). And only one of the other six was listed on the Oregon State 2023 roster as a RS Senior. That being Jason Shaner. But the fact remains that six of those eight still have eligibility remaining.
  16. I'm just wondering what informed Stanford fans think are the possibilities that Shane Griffith and Tyler Eischens might be back for the 2024 season as 6th year Seniors. Both are listed on the 2023 Stanford roster as RS Seniors and because of the extra year of eligibility from 2020 they would seem to have that option. If not at Stanford then elsewhere. Thoughts?
  17. Griffith lost IMO because he has not put forth much effort in most of his matches this season and it finally bit him in the butt. His last eleven matches have all been decisions because he has been doing this "just enough to win" minimum effort routine.
  18. I don't see Norfleet participating either. Guess I didn't see him listed earlier (I had had only 1 cup of coffee then). I'd be very surprised if he participates next Sunday. Last I read he won't be back this season but he might petition the NCAA for next season (which would be a 7th season for him by my count).
  19. 125 lbs - Pretty difficult to include Antonio Lorenzo of Cal Poly here as he has wrestled only one PAC 12 match this season and that was a 6-5 loss to ASU's Richard Figueroa on Jan. 20th. The starter for Cal Poly at 125 lbs since then has been Koda Holeman and Holeman has lost to Reno, Provo & Flores. 141 lbs - I would have Oregon State's Cleveland Belton at # 2 seed based on comparing his result vs. Jesse Vasquez against Saenz's result vs. Vasquez, i.e., Belton lost 5-2 to Vasquez and Saenz lost 7-3 to Vasquez 184 lbs - I would have ASU's Montalvo seeded above Byers based on their results against Munoz. But it's a tossup either way I think. 197 lbs - I would have Little Rock's Stephen Little as the # 3 seed as he beat Stanford's Nick Stemmet 7-5. Little & Weinert have been Little Rock's starters at 197 lbs since late January and Weinert has lost every match while Little has won every match. Other than that I'd say your projected Seedings are spot on. Good job here. P.S. Even tho Griffith lost yesterday to Olguin 3-2 - and as a result he absolutely should be the # 2 seed - I think the next time those two face each other the result will be different. Griffith has been expending minimum effort in most of his matches this season for reasons known only to him. Hopefully that loss teaches him a life lesson that doing just barely enough to win will occasionally get you exactly what he got yesterday. When you willingly choose to "play with fire" you occasionally will get burned.
  20. Sunday's Probable Matchups (Rankings are from WrestleStat) I see this dual as having up to 6 matches that could go either way. It should be interesting to see how it plays out today. 125: #36 Nico Provo (STAN) vs. #22 Brandon Kaylor (OSU) Last two PAC 12 common opponents: #208 Koda Holeman (Cal Poly) - Provo beat Holeman 9-2 and Kaylor beat Holeman 11-4 #107 Eddie Flores (CS Bakersfield) - Provo beat Flores 9-5 and Kaylor beat Flores 3-2 133: #82 Jackson DiSario (STAN) vs. #41 Jason Shaner (OSU) Last two PAC 12 common opponents: #48 Ethan Rotondo (Cal Poly) DiSario lost to Rotondo 8-2 and Shaner lost 6-1 to Rotondo #4 Michael McGee (ASU) DiSario lost by TF (16-1 in 3:31) to McGee and Shaner lost by TF (17-2 in 6:31) 141: #67 Jason Miranda (STAN) vs. #52 Cleveland Bellton (OSU) Last two PAC 12 common opponents: #87 Angelo Martinoni (CS Bakersfield) - Miranda beat Martinoni by MD (9-0) and Belton beat Martinoni 4-2 #26 Jesse Vasquez (Arizona State) - Miranda lost 10-4 to Vasquez and Belton lost 5-2 to Vasquez 149: #18 Jaden Abas OR Luciano Arroyo (STAN) vs. #144 Riley Gurr (OSU) Last two PAC 12 common opponents: #20 Dom Demas (Cal Poly) Abas beat Demas 4-0 and Gurr lost 3-2 to Demas #90 Josh Brown (CS Bakersfield) Abas beat Brown 9-3 and Gurr lost by MD (16-7) to Brown 157: #8 Daniel Cardenas OR Charlie Darracott (STAN) vs. #62 Isaiah Crosby (OSU) Last two PAC 12 common opponents: #69 Luka Wick (Cal Poly) Cardenas beat Wick 6-2 and Crosby lost 3-0 to Wick #36 Charlie Darracott (Stanford) Cardenas has beaten Darracott three times this season (5-3, 6-4 in SV OT & 7-4) and Crosby beat Darracott 8-6 165: #3 Shane Griffith (STAN) vs. #18 Matthew Olguin (OSU) Last two PAC 12 common opponents: #60 Legend Lamer (Cal Poly) Griffith beat Lamer 2-0 and Olguin beat Lamer 7-5 in SV OT #1 #49 Tyler Brennan (Little Rock) Griffith beat Brennan 4-0 and Olguin beat Brennan 4-0 174: #27 Tyler Eischens (STAN) vs. #26 Aaron Olmos (OSU) Last two PAC 12 common opponents: #81 Brawley Lamer (Cal Poly) Eischens beat Lamer 8-3 and Olmos beat Lamer 13-6 #70 Albert Urias (CS Bakersfield) Eischens beat Urias 6-1 and Olmos 3-1 184: #103 Brook Byers (STAN) vs. #6 Trey Munoz (OSU) Last two PAC 12 common opponents: #107 Jarad Priest (Cal Poly) Byers lost 9-4 to Priest and Munoz beat Priest by FALL (4:35) #140 Mason Diel (Little Rock) Byers beat Diel by MD (19-6) and Munoz beat Diel by TF (17-2 in 3:59) 197: #37 Nick Stemmet (STAN) vs. #22 Tanner Harvey (OSU) Last two PAC 12 common opponents: #10 Bernie Truax (Cal Poly) Stemmet lost 9-5 to Truax and Harvey lost 7-5 to Truax #74 Jonathan Fagen (Arizona State) - Stemmet beat Fagen by MD (12-2) and Harvey beat Fagen by MD (14-4) 285: #75 Peter Ming (STAN) vs.#67 J.J. 21. I am now reading where it is alleged that the scale was not accurate and the first time he tried to weigh in it had him 1 lb over and then the 2nd attempt (he claims) was dead on 132. And now the Valencia's are - apparently - going to sue over this:
  22. Thanks for the response. I hadn't seen that mentioned anywhere. I figured he must have gotten injured or was sick, etc. I know he qualified at 132 lbs but I checked 126, 132 and 138 looking to see if he was entered.
  23. Anyone know why Aden Valencia is not competing at the 2023 CA State tournament? I know he qualified. But he's not listed among the entrants at 126 lbs (or 132 or 138.
