  1. I think only Riza can be a threat to Hedayati, we have to see what kind of shape he is in
  2. That Ukrainian beat Hedayati 5-4 many years ago and Hedayati teched him the last time they met. He’s not a threat
  3. Emami also beat Kaipanov (2024 world champ at 70kg and 2025 asian champ at 74kg). Great run of results for him, but unfortunately he won't be at worlds this year as Amir Yazdani beat Emami twice and got the spot. I don't know if Zare has ever wrestled Mohammadnezhad but I would guess those matches are not close at all. Nezhad lost to Kasimbek twice at the age level (4-1 both times I think) but those losses have aged well considering how good Kasimbek looks. Hard to extrapolate from Azarpira to Yazdani. Azarpira is very hot and cold.
  4. Watched Zare vs Kasimbek in full. First period: 1-0 Zare - Zare controls centre for the entire 3 minutes. - Kasimbek does not attack at all. - Kasimbek gets on the shot clock and doesn't score. 1-0 Zare. - Zare gets close to a step out but Kasimbek escapes near the edge. - Zare somehow gets a first passivity warning, despite controlling centre and pushing Kasimbek back consistently. - With 5 seconds left, Zare launches a good leg attack and pushes Kasimbek out of bounds 1-2 seconds after the first period ends, just out of time. Second period: 3-2 Kasimbek - Kasimbek immediately more aggressive and holds centre better. - Zare gets close to a go behind but Kasimbek defends well. - Zare gets put on the shot clock 30 seconds into the second period. - Kasimbek is very fast and grabs the ankle, Zare tries a chest wrap to defend, but Kasimbek gets the exposure (plus passivity point as the 30 seconds expires). 3-1 Kasimbek. Zare largely defends well and gets back up with 90 seconds remaining. - With 60 seconds left, Pejman gets angry and swaps places with Taghavi. - Zare starts to reassert himself and push Kasimbek back. He tries a snap down go behind, but it doesn't work. Kasimbek's length is a problem. Zare shoots but can't reach the leg. - With 15 seconds to go, Zare shoots again and grabs the ankle, stands, and gets the takedown. 3-3 Zare. Zare wins 3*-3 on criteria. Kasimbek is exhausted and takes a long time to get back up. Zare was unfortunate not to get the step out at the end of the first period, but needs to hold centre better next time they wrestle. Good to see Zare taking more shots but I prefer him controlling the match and pushing guys around for 6 minutes. Zare wasn't as intense as usual with his forward pressure (like when he beat Masoumi 5-0 in the ranking series). With more intensity and forward pressure, I think he could avoid the passivity point and make Kasimbek tired quicker. Hopefully he will be in better condition in 3 weeks time for worlds and can make these small adjustments.

  6. Zare was not prepared properly since he is aiming to peak at worlds. Kasimbek is very good and will compete for medals but he's not beating Zare, not even in home territory. Zare beat Kasimbek 7-0 a few months ago as well, when he seemed to be in better shape. But Kasimbek is obviously improving quickly.
  7. Azarpira avenges his loss to Yoshida, beating him 4-3, and gets 7-8 step outs to win 10-0 in the final Iran finishes with 4 gold medals in freestyle, from Emami, Nokhodi, Azarpira, and Zare
  8. Emami did great, beating Zhamalov and Kaipanov and Aoyagi to win gold at 74kg Makes you wonder how he lost to Amir Yazdani in national trials, and puts a lot of pressure on Amir Yazdani now
  9. Nokhodi can grow into 86 but I haven't seen anything to suggest he would be better than Ghasempour. He could medal with a good draw, like Ishiguro did, but probably not seriously challenge for gold. He is better off staying at 79, though he obviously intends to try to make a run at 86 for 2028. Kasimbek is only 19, he's a big problem, he already has a win over Sharipov. And worlds is in Kazakhstan this year... And next year Masoumi will be back. Still, I think Zare should continue to beat them both. It would be a disaster if he didn't win gold in 2028.
  10. Nokhodi and Zare both win Asian Games gold as expected
  11. I was right about Sujeet, he teched Ebrahimzadeh. He then also beat Kiyooka 3-3 but Kiyooka should have won. Kiyooka beat Ebrahimzadeh 3-2 for Bronze. Zare beat Kasimbek but he left it very late and it much closer than expected. Kasimbek will be a big problem. He's only 19 and worlds is in Kazakhstan this year... Hopefully Zare just wasn't prepared fully and can fix that. Zare beat Kasimbek 7-0 a few months ago. And Sharipov managed to fumble a 7-0 lead by getting pinned so Zare will face Behurden from China in the final instead of Sharipov. Nokhodi beat Shavaev again, this time 3-0. And he joins Zare in the finals.
  12. Sujeet is on crazy form this year, he will destroy Ebrahimzadeh easily Zhamalov is not on form at all so Emami has a chance and would not surprise me if he won agree Nokhodi and Zare are the two best chances for gold. Zare will probably beat Kasimbek and Sharipov again to get there, almost the exact same run as he had in Asian Championships in April this year lol
  13. Big upset as Abdevali beats Kusaka for gold at 77kg Oskou (24) and Abdevali (22) should have a fun rivalry for 2028

  15. Yoshida beat Azarpira quite easily the last time they wrestled, Azarpira is generally in bad form these days with limited ability to sustain offence and poor conditioning so I can't back him until I see him fix those issues
  16. Forget Bouveiri, we should send Abdevali (he is 22) to U23 worlds. Beating Kusaka in front of his home crowd to win Asian Games gold is an incredible win.
  17. is it too late to send Abdevali to worlds? lol. I was thinking before this match that we are in a good place for 2028 with Oskou in form and Abdevali being young and improving. I no longer see 77 as a weaker weight for us, we should medal.
  18. Mirzazadeh beats the Uzbek 3-1 and wins gold, his second Asian Games gold medal not bad considering he is recovering from a recent injury (he withdrew from the second match of the national trial against Hedayati)
  19. Useful reality check for Farokhi but he has the Olympic rings tattooed on his arm, he’s not going to give up on 87 yet Mirzazadeh looks fine to me, he’s a 1-1 specialist
  20. Asian Games wrestling starts tomorrow. The level of competition is very high in most weights. 57 - Momeni has an easy path to SF where he will face Aman, Abdullaev, or Ogawa. DNP 65 - Ebrahimzadeh faces Sujeet in the QF and also has Kiyooka on his half of the bracket. DNP 74 - Emami has Jamalov in the first round and also has Tulga and Kaipanov on his bracket. Bronze 86 - Nokhodi will have to beat Shavaev or Saipudinov to reach the final. Gold 97 - Azarpira will face Yoshida or Aitmukhan in the SF. Bronze 125 - Zare might face the phenom Kassimbek in the SF then Sharipov again in the final. GOLD GR: 60 - Abbaspour has Ganiev in SF. Bronze 67 - Rezaei has Shermakhanbet in the first round (Kazakh who always beat Reza Geraei) then likely Sogabe in SF. DNP 77 - Abdevali will likely face Badaghi in SF then Makhmudov/Kusaka in final. Silver 87 - Farokhi will likely rematch Zhanyshov in the SF then face Taizo Yoshida in the final. Gold 97 - Bali should do well in a weak 97 field. Gold 130 - Mirzazadeh. GOLD
  21. I like Farokhi but I can't see him beating Mohmadi. 87kg is very deep and Mohmadi is one of the best in that division and also young. Maybe Farokhi can prove me wrong, he's certainly motivated to make the Olympic team and could improve with more time at 87kg. Excited to see him at the Asian Games.
  22. understandable since we are approaching 2028 but it is bad for our overall team at 72 and 82 maybe Mohammadali Geraei can return at 82
